Hi, my name is Shakti, I'm a certified birth & postpartum doula, and also a certified yoga teacher (prenatal, postnatal...), and an Ayurvedic practitioner, specializing in bodywork and h traditional healing & rejuvenation therapies. I love working with my hands, herbs, crystals, energies and other gifts mama nature provides. From the caring lens of Ayurveda I view pregnancy, birth and motherhood as a very sacred time of life deserving much respect, nurturing and care of the mind, body and spirit. I spent the first six years of my career working in early childhood education. First working in a daycare, then moving onto preschool, and later working as a nanny. My time in early childhood gave me a great appreciation of mothers, children, and families. I found it incredibly rewarding to be welcomed into someone’s home and life to care for their most precious possession. As I worked in early childhood I simultaneously took certifications in my other passion, fitness. I began to learn about anatomy and how different perinatal bodies are to women who have not given birth. One of my trainings stated that 80% of women will be pregnant (and eventually postpartum) at some point in their lives. This special consideration stuck with me. It wasn’t until my husband and I decided to try for children that I fully understood the wonder of fertility, pregnancy, and birth. I became obsessed with devouring all the information I could on these topics and finally stumbled upon Ina May’s guide to childbirth. This book completely changed how I viewed birth and melted my fears of childbirth away. However, by the time I became pregnant navigating the often confusing OB and even midwifery world left me feeling dizzy. The entire process left me feeling disempowered and I knew I couldn’t go into giving birth from this space. This pushed me to train to be a birth doula to ensure I would have a positive pregnancy and birth experience. The training helped me to understand physiological birth, navigating the medical world, and what I wanted even in the event of an unplanned obstacle. I finally felt confident I could handle whatever labor could throw at me. My passion for birth was born out of necessity and I plan to use that same level of devotion to help other women. I truly believe my unique skill set and experiences have lead me to the field of birth work. I created Fit to Birth to combine all my knowledge and passions. I hope to provide resources, education, and support to pregnant women in Sacramento and beyond.

Taylor is a Doula, Placenta Encapsulator, and Student Midwife serving families in the San Francisco Bay Area. Working with children for over a decade as a nanny, she has always had a passion for supporting families. After attending her first birth in 2016, she discovered that she had a deep calling to join the Birth World. She completed her Birth Doula training at Natural Resources in 2019. Taylor is currently serving her community as a Doula and Placenta Encapsulator and is a Student Midwife at National Midwifery Institute, studying under the well-loved community midwife, Michelle Welborn, CPM. Taylor has a calm, “can do” attitude and loves to help you explore all your options during pregnancy and birth. She believes that births are best supported by listening to your body and creating an environment filled with love, trust, connection, and calm. In her free time she loves spending time with her sweet daughter, Magnolia, her orange tabby cat, Max, her loving and supportive husband, Sean, her two adorable nieces, and her wonderful and inspiring siblings. Originally from Liverpool, England and now living in Marin County, California, I am the mum of 6 beautiful children and a grandma to one. Each and every birth was unique, whether it was at home, a birthing centre, or in a hospital. The level of prenatal and postpartum care I received, definitely impacted my birth experience and I really feel every mum should feel safe and in control of her choices, as much as she can when she is going through one of the most unique and special moments in their life. I love supporting other parents on their journey, whether it be for advice, support or just to chat about what's to come. Feeling prepared makes for a much easier birth journey :) I trained with Doula Trainings international as a birth and postpartum doula. I have been a volunteer with the Postpartum Support Center through the Marin Diaper Bank and now as a facilitator for the ROSE program. I used to be a nurse in Brazil for 16 years. I would like to proceed in this area because I have always enjoyed working with prenatal and natal stages, including babies aged 0-6 months in the hospital. I decided to concentrate more on being a doula since it encompasses more of what I love to do. I have worked as a combination of an at-home nurse and post-birth baby care for mothers fresh out of the hospital. But since moving here instead of being a nurse again, I have decided to be a certified doula.
