My name is Shakila Marando, and I am the founder of DOULAS by the BAY. I am a mother of two and have spent over 25 years working with children and families, including the last 17 years supporting families as a doula through pregnancy, birth, and the early newborn days. This work comes from a deep belief that no family should ever feel alone during this journey. I work closely alongside our team of doulas, sharing the same commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care. Together, we have supported thousands of families across Northern and Southern California, providing steady guidance, reassurance, and hands-on support when it matters most. Our doulas are carefully selected, certified, and deeply cared for. Every team member is Birth and Postpartum Certified, Perinatal Mood Disorders Certified, CPR trained, HIPAA compliant, fully vetted, and insured. With ongoing mentorship and professional development, we ensure families receive safe, reliable, and heart-centered care in their homes. I created DOULAS by the BAY to build a trusted, supportive space where families feel seen, informed, and confident—while expanding access to doula care and strengthening our community, one family at a time.

Shakila is the best there is. We did not have a night doula for our first child. For our second, we needed one because I had to go back to work right away. I was very nervous about leaving my baby with someone else during the night hours, particularly at just two weeks. Shakila let me control as much of the process as I wanted to so I always felt like she was doing what I wanted. She has a magical touch with babies and had our daughter sleeping through the night by two months old. She would not even leave in the morning until the baby was back to sleep, which allowed us an extra hour of sleep on top of the time she was with us. She was worth every penny and then some. THANK YOU SHAKILA! We miss you.

My name is Rebecca Garcia and I am thrilled you are seeking out a Doula for your journey. I have a strong energetic pull towards this life changing work, and I am so honored to be pursuing my passion as a birth worker. I love all things birth and feel that my strongest assets are listening, empathy, providing resources and cooking homemade meals for others. I tell all my clients, if there is a birth I am there. With all the stigma and negative depictions in the media surrounding birth, I want to ensure that my clients feel secure in all their decisions without any judgments. This Is Your Body, Your Birth & Only You Get To Make The Decisions That Works Best For You & Your Baby. I have two spirited little ones of my own; ages 4 and 6. I had doulas for both births and feel as though they made my birthing journey undeniably memorable. They feed me, hit pressure points during labor, loved me, educated me and most importantly encouraged me to find my voice and strength. These are the experiences I wish to provide to my future clients. I have experience in homebirths, birth centers & hospital settings. I understand that ones birthing journey is a sacred space, and wish to only support and offer any resources that may help aid in this time. If you are interested or just want to connect and talk anything birth, postpartum or baby please feel free to reach out. I am located in San Francisco and I am extending my services throughout the surrounding Bay Area. Virtual Options Also Provided

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Rebecca. From pregnancy through postpartum, she was one of the absolute best decisions we made for our birth experience. Her prenatal care was incredible. She made me and my husband feel prepared, supported, and confident going into labor, and took the time to really understand the birth experience I was hoping for. By the time labor started, I felt like I had someone by my side who knew exactly what I needed and how to support me. During my natural labor, Rebecca was genuinely an angel on earth. She somehow anticipated what I needed before I even knew I needed it—keeping me fed and hydrated, helping me through every contraction, and providing the most incredible comfort measures throughout labor. She was calm, grounding, encouraging, and completely present. I genuinely don’t know how I would have done it without her. And her care didn’t stop after the birth. She was just as wonderful postpartum, supporting me through such a tender and overwhelming transition into motherhood. One of the most meaningful parts of the entire experience was the closing of the bones ceremony she held for me. I was so incredibly touched by the care, intention, and thoughtfulness she put into honoring me and my transition into motherhood. It’s something I will remember forever. Rebecca is truly exceptional at what she does. Being a doula isn’t just a job for her it’s a calling. She made me feel cared for as a whole person and I will forever be grateful that she was part of such an important chapter of our lives. I would recommend her a million times over.

I have been working with newborn babies and families for over 20 years. My vast experience has given me the knowledge to understand newborns’ physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs while providing parents with the necessary tools to develop their abilities and skills. I believe that pregnancy, birth, and the transition to parenthood are the most important and transformative times in a person’s life. I am honored to help families make the transition into parenthood as smooth as possible.

Recent review

Sochild started working with my family almost ten years ago when my daughter, Samantha, was 6 months old. As a first time mom, Sochild was extremely helpful with, well honestly, everything! Although my daughter refused to take a bottle, Sochild was patient and resourceful in making sure she had what she needed to be healthy and safe. And, most importantly, she gave Samantha endless love and gave us endless support. Around the time Samantha was starting preschool, I had a second baby. Sochild stayed with Samantha while I was in the hospital and brought Samantha to meet her baby brother, Julian, for the first time. Sochild helped me take care of Julian from the day he was born until the day he started preschool over two years later. As she did with Samantha, Sochild took amazing care of Julian. We always knew the children would be happy and safe when they were with her. Although Sochild stopped working for us when Julian started pre-school, she would visit with us and our children regularly, so when the pandemic hit, she came back to help us more frequently. In the early days of the pandemic, Sochild worked for us a few hours a day to help keep our stir-crazy kids from going completely insane! And when Samantha started kindergarten remotely, Sochild ran a “pod” for her and three other children. Sochild had all four children all day. She would help them with their virtual school and then have other activities prepared for them – she made her own worksheets and art projects and threw parties for holidays and birthdays. Once school resumed, Sochild once again stopped working for us on a full time basis, but she remained in our lives. She helps out with my children on evening and weekends and holidays – and was particularly helpful during some recent medical issues and surgeries I had. As cliché as it sounds, we consider Sochild part of our family. My children love her to pieces and we know she loves them right back. Nothing makes them happier than when I tell them they get to spend the day with her. She is a dear friend, a wonderful person, and an amazing caregiver. We feel so lucky that we have had her in our lives for the last decade and truly believe that any family would be lucky to work with her.

Hi, I’m Sheila. I’m a faith based birth & postpartum doula, photographer, and most importantly, a mom who knows how deeply personal this season of life can be. Becoming a mother myself changed the way I see birth. I remember the emotions, the questions, the vulnerability, and the overwhelming feeling of wanting someone beside you who simply gets it. That experience is what led me to doula work — because I wanted to become the person I wish every mother could have in her corner: someone who listens without judgment, stays calm when things feel overwhelming, helps you understand your options, and reminds you of your strength when you need it most. With over six years of experience working with children and families, professional doula training, continued mentorship, and my own experience as a mom, I bring both knowledge and genuine heart into the room. I’m not there to take over your birth or tell you how it should go — I’m there to learn you, support your wishes, help you feel prepared, and be the steady presence you can lean on. And because I’m also a photographer, I have a special love for capturing the little moments you may not even realize are happening — the first touch, the tears, the tiny details, and the way your family changes in an instant. My packages can also include birth photography, postpartum meal prep, and a postpartum visit, so my support doesn’t simply end when your baby arrives. I want you to feel like you found your person someone you can text, laugh with, cry with, ask the “is this normal?” questions, and feel completely comfortable being yourself around. If you’re looking for someone who will care for you like a person, not just a client, I’d love to meet you. 🤍

Mindy has been an incredible postpartum doula, and I would give her a 5-star review without hesitation. From the very beginning, she was warm, caring, and genuinely affectionate with my baby. Within just a few days, I felt completely comfortable trusting her to care for my little one independently, which gave me much-needed time to rest and focus on my recovery. What stood out most was how thoughtful and respectful Mindy was about our family’s preferences. She always checked in with me, followed my choices, and offered helpful suggestions when it made sense. When my daughter developed a severe diaper rash, Mindy shared practical guidance that truly helped her heal. She was also incredibly efficient and proactive. She helped with bottles, laundry, and other household tasks while the baby was sleeping, often without even being asked. Mindy is reliable, punctual, and deeply supportive. I feel very lucky to have had her help during such a vulnerable time, and I would absolutely hire her again and recommend her to any family looking for postpartum support

Having Lynda as my doula was one of the greatest blessings during such a vulnerable and life changing season. From the very beginning, she created a space where I felt safe, heard, and completely supported. Her calm presence reassured me in moments of uncertainty, and her knowledge gave me confidence in every decision I needed to make. She did not just care for me physically, she cared for me emotionally. Lynda took the time to explain things clearly, offered practical guidance, and supported my choices without judgment. That balance of professionalism and compassion made all the difference. What touched me most was the way she extended that same warmth and patience to my daughter. She was gentle, attentive, and genuinely kind, which meant so much to me as a mother. Seeing my child comfortable and cared for while I received support was incredibly reassuring. Because of Lynda, I look back on my experience with gratitude rather than overwhelm. I feel stronger, more confident, and deeply thankful that she was part of our journey. I wholeheartedly recommend her to any mother seeking not just a doula, but a steady and compassionate presence during such an important time.

I am so glad I had Naoko by my side during my delivery. She is so warm, kind, and easy to talk to. My labor was long and challenging, but she supported me through every step of the way. I honestly don’t know if I could have gotten through it without her help. She gave me great advice on when to do certain things, like taking a bath or asking for medication, which was incredibly helpful. I felt so much more comfortable and reassured knowing she was there. Her postpartum support was also amazing! She cooked for me ( she is a really good cook!), and was so helpful with breastfeeding as well. Having her support during those early days made such a big difference.

— Katy M., review of Raika Thomas September 2026

I cannot recommend Mirella highly enough. She was our night doula for the first six weeks after our son was born, and hiring her was truly one of the best decisions we made for our baby and ourselves. Those first weeks are such a delicate and vulnerable time for a family, especially for a new mom and baby, and Mirella brought exactly the presence we needed into our home. She is incredibly kind, gentle, calm, and nurturing, while also being knowledgeable, reliable, timely, and precise in everything she does. We started calling her “the baby whisperer” because she always seemed to know exactly what our son needed. If he was unsettled, she knew how to soothe him, and whenever we asked for advice, she had thoughtful suggestions that worked. She didn’t just care for our son: she taught us so much and helped us become more confident parents. She was especially incredible in helping us establish healthy sleep habits from the beginning. She showed us how to gently teach our son to sleep and worked consistently with him night after night. By six weeks, he was sleeping stretches of around six hours, which I credit in large part to Mirella and the foundation she helped us create. She also helped with household chores, which was enormously helpful during those exhausting early weeks. Initially, I was hesitant to hire a night doula because both my husband and I were off work and I wondered if we really needed the help. Looking back, it was one of the best choices we could have made. Mirella helped us immensely and made those first weeks so much more manageable and special. We feel incredibly lucky that she was part of our son’s first weeks of life. I would recommend Mirella without hesitation and would be more than happy to speak with any family considering working with her. She is truly wonderful.
