The Best Support We Could Have Asked For! We had the immense blessing of working with Priya for both labor/delivery and postpartum care, and I can confidently say she was one of the greatest gifts of our entire journey into parenthood. As first-time parents, the transition can feel overwhelming, but her presence brought comfort, confidence, and so much peace into our home. From the very first moment, she was gentle, knowledgeable, and incredibly nurturing. Her care is rooted in deep Ayurvedic wisdom, and she combines it beautifully with modern newborn support. She went above and beyond in every way. ✨ Labor & Delivery Support Having her with me during labor and delivery made all the difference. She was calm, encouraging, and present through every contraction and every moment of uncertainty. Her guidance helped me stay mentally strong and physically supported. I truly don’t know how I would have done it without her. ✨ Newborn Care She cared for our baby with so much love — from Ayurvedic oil massages, creating gentle daily routines, helping with gas/colic relief, and supporting healthy sleep patterns. Every single thing was done so thoughtfully and respectfully. ✨ Postpartum Recovery For Me She didn’t just help with the baby — she took care of me as a mother: - Ayurvedic belly binding for core support - Warm oil massages - Herbal teas and foods that supported healing and milk production - Emotional and mental support on days I needed it most She made sure I rested, nourished my body, and felt seen and cared for — something every new mother deserves. ✨ Food & Meals Her freshly prepared Ayurvedic meals were amazing. Everything was warm, nourishing, and made to help my body recover and build strength. You can tell she puts her heart into every part of her work. ✨ Family Support She guided my husband, helped us understand newborn cues, and even shared tips that made our whole home more peaceful and soothing for the baby. Her knowledge is priceless. If you are considering Ayurvedic newborn care or postpartum support, don’t think twice. She is truly gifted at what she does. She combines expertise, intuition, and compassion in a way that is rare to find. We felt protected, encouraged, and cared for every single day. We absolutely love her and are so grateful for everything she brought into our lives. She will always be a special part of our birth and postpartum story. ❤️

Joan Sherwood

Joan Sherwood

31 years of experience

I am Joan Sherwood, founder of Peaceful Beginnings To You. My calling to become a doula was born from a personal experience. During the birth of my child, I was left alone in a hospital room without any support. My spouse and brother were sent home because I was not in active labor. My water had broken, so I was admitted, and I faced the daunting process of labor alone, in a secluded area until it was time to push. This experience, where I delivered a 9 -pound, 2-ounce baby without my loved one's present, ignited my passion to ensure that no other person would have to endure such solitude. My journey as a doula began 25 years ago when I assisted a family member through labor. Since then, I have been a source of support and guidance for family and friends, which eventually led me to pursue certification as a birth doula through DONA International. I am deeply committed to holistic birth and postpartum care, and my extensive training reflects this dedication. My education includes a Family Development Credential, studies at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, the Center for Homeopathic Education, and the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences. I am also a certified Calm Birth Instructor, Infant Massage Instructor Trainer, Womb Sauna Practitioner, and have received postpartum training from Indigemama, BirthMama, Traditional Postpartum Practitioner, and Birth Arts International. My approach to doula care is centered on the needs of the laboring person. I come with no preconceived notions, and I remain as fluid and flexible as possible to meet the evolving needs of each individual. In addition, to running my private doula practice, I have provided doula care to underserved communities as a doula and doula mentor for a federally funded program in Brooklyn.

Joan was my doula for both my pregnancies, one in 2014 for my now 8 year old and again during the pandemic for my 2 year old. I highly recommend Joan she provided such consistent support during both pregnancy, while birthing and postpartum. I was so fortune because Joan is just naturally resourceful and intuitive and she was right by my side every step the way. To this day I consider her such an empowering and beautiful human being and I am thankful that she was with me on my journey into motherhood -- I would choose her again and again and again!!!

Martha Alicia Hudson

8 years of experience

With over 20 years of experience supporting families across six countries, I bring a deep understanding of the diverse ways cultures nurture parent-child relationships. My journey into birth work began as a Health Community Worker, advocating for immigrant Latino families in New York. Later, while working at a mental health agency in Connecticut, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that nurturing, consistent, and responsive caregiving has on a child’s development. This realization fueled my passion for family support and led me to become a Birth and Postpartum Doula, ensuring families receive guidance and care from the very start of their parenting journey. Three years ago, I earned my certification in Perinatal Mental Health, allowing me to further support families through the emotional complexities of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Fluent in both Spanish and English, I am dedicated to creating a compassionate and culturally informed space for every family I serve.

Martha brought a level of joy, reassurance and experience to our daughters birth we didn’t even know we needed. Every step of the way through my pregnancy she checked in on me and provided the guidance I needed. Our birth changed pretty rapidly but Martha’s positivity and expertise made the entire experience more enjoyable. We were able to really focus on the birth while she helped guide those around us on decisions we made beforehand. Pregnancy doesn’t just stop after birth, the emotional and physical work continues after you’re home as well. Martha is there by your side through it all! She helped change my postpartum experience immensely, I cannot thank her enough. I will forever recommend The Knitting Doula!

Hello! I’m Gabrielle. A little bit about me and what sets me apart: I am an Ayurvedic birth and postpartum doula, an Holistic Pregnancy and Birth Practitioner (HPBP), and I am in my final year of a Master of Science degree in Integrative Medicine and Ayurveda Health. And, aside from all of that, I have been a career nanny for over a decade with experience working with moms and postpartum. My knowledge of this ancient wisdom of Ayurveda allows me to bring a unique approach to your postpartum by focusing on nourishment, healing, rest, + bonding. My focus is to hold you so you can hold your baby. As we enter into this sacred journey together, know that my intention during every stage is done with the utmost reverence and respect for the art of bringing new life into the world, and I am merely a bystander in your new journey to motherhood. I am so looking forward to serving you.

I hired Gabrielle as a post partum doula, what started out as a 2 week session became 4 weeks and then 6 weeks! I just did NOT want her to leave!!! I cannot say enough good things about her. My baby came 2 weeks early and I was completely not prepared. She instantly eased all my tension of navigating life with a newborn with 2 other toddlers. Organized all the baby things as soon as I got home. I was really interested in her Ayurvedic training for healing and she did not dissapoint. From belly binding on day 3, to pelvic steaming, body work (she is second to NONE, I cried on her first day of restorative touch because I was so grateful), and ohhhh the food. She has magic in her hands. Anything she cooks tastes 10 times better than what you would expect, she had my whole house drooling. She would even see me getting anxious when my baby wouldn’t sleep or cooperate, and she calmly would take the baby from me and somehow everything was good in the world again. The Postpartum journey was so much better having Gabrielle by my side. You will NOT regret hiring her!!!

Shaped by her own birth experiences, Liz was called to support mothers in achieving empowerment through their own births. Her practice is rooted in deep mental and emotional support, specializing in natural deliveries and encouraging clients to look beyond the confines of what society tells us birth should be and instead look deep within to find their most fearless and capable selves. Liz is a Birth Becomes You Certified Birth Photographer and will soon be certified as a Hypnobirthing Educator (HBCE) in summer 2026. She supports clients from the onset of pregnancy all the way through postpartum, offering sage wisdom & sisterly kinship to every woman she serves.

Recent review

My experience with Liz as my doula was truly phenomenal. From the moment we connected, I knew we were the right fit. Her communication was immediate and thoughtful, as a working mom, I deeply appreciated her sense of urgency and genuine desire to support moms in need. When we had our first meeting, we instantly clicked. She brought such a calm presence, yet also felt like having a big sister in the room with me, which, as a big sister myself, meant so much. I sought out a doula because I was considered “advanced maternal age” with my second baby, and there was a lot of fear-based messaging around potential complications and C-sections. I wanted strong advocacy in the room, support for my body, and a positive, smooth birth experience for both me and my son. I also hoped to delay an epidural as long as possible. Although I ended up being induced (not part of the original plan), Liz helped us adapt confidently. I didn’t receive an epidural until 8 cm, something I’m incredibly proud of, and I credit so much of that to her support (not to mention we also delivered a 10 lb 9 oz baby vaginally). Liz wasn’t just an asset to me, she was an anchor for my husband, too. The three of us truly felt like a team. Her birth classes helped us align on preferences and put our plan on paper, and I loved that she brought that plan into the delivery room and thoughtfully referenced it. Her attention to detail is unmatched. Leading up to delivery, she was a constant source of calm, especially during a major snowstorm when I worried I might go into labor early. After birth, when our son had a brief NICU stay and I experienced complications, Liz continued checking in on both me and my husband. That level of care speaks volumes. She is knowledgeable, certified, deeply compassionate, and incredibly detail-oriented, a true rockstar. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula.

Having Michelle as part of our birth process was one of the absolute best decisions we made. We really wanted someone who had a deep knowledge and could help prepare us yet also be emotionally / psychologically supportive - and she was incredible. Her calm yet empowering energy, her levelheaded acumen, her kind consideration and openness - she made all the difference not only in the delivery room but before and after as well! Michelle prepared us thoroughly regarding what to expect, provided us lots of 'tools' (i.e. resources, information, exercises, etc) to have in our toolbox, and when things were happening during labor she was a grounding presence able to help ask the right questions, make sure I was approaching things the way I wanted to, and we felt incredibly supported the whole time. She made the room a little oasis which I truly believe contributed to me relaxing and ultimately having a smooth delivery. She is the best - anyone would be lucky to have her on their team. <3

As a birth doula based in central NJ, my practice is influenced by my experience as a massage therapist for over 30 years. I have broad understanding of the physical challenges facing pregnant and postpartum individuals. I’m certified as Body Ready Method™ professional to address body alignment issues during pregnancy, which can result in a more optimal labor and birth. I also teach an in-person Body Ready Birth™ workshop for birthers and their partners to practice labor positions that can ease the baby’s journey through the pelvis. I prepare my clients with tools to calm their nervous system and release their fears using Hypnobirthing meditations and breathing techniques. As an integral part of the birth team, I provide educational resources, in-person prenatal/postpartum visits and compassionate care during active labor and birth.

Elyse is worth every penny! We are incredibly grateful for her and truly believe she played a huge role in helping me achieve my VBAC. My husband has said many times that he wishes we had hired Elyse for our first birth because he believes we could have avoided my C-section. After experiencing labor with and without her support, we now understand just how valuable a knowledgeable and experienced doula can be. From the beginning, Elyse took the time to understand my goal of avoiding another C-section. When it became clear that my original OB would not allow my pregnancy to go beyond 40 weeks and 5 days or consider induction, she recommended a VBAC-friendly OB practice. We switched providers, scheduled an induction at 39 weeks and 5 days, and ultimately welcomed our daughter through a successful VBAC. The moment Elyse arrived at the hospital, we noticed a difference. We felt more supported and confident, and so many different labor techniques and position changes were used to help my labor progress—things that were never even attempted during my first birth. She helped us understand our options, kept me focused, and gave my husband the confidence to support me throughout labor. Elyse stayed with us for 24 hours, providing constant encouragement, comfort measures, music, and reassurance. Looking back, we truly believe her knowledge, calm presence, and unwavering support made all the difference. If you’re considering hiring a doula, I can’t recommend Elyse enough. Forget the self-rocking crib or the latest baby gadgets—Elyse was the single best investment we made for our children. Because of her support, I was able to avoid spending eight agonizing weeks recovering from major surgery, I was able to be fully present for both my toddler and my newborn from the very beginning. That is something you simply can’t put a price on.
