Hi, I'm Sarah and I founded Forever Doula because I think babies are the absolute best (and so are their moms and dads). I am a DONA trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, a Birth and Bereavement Doula through StillBirthDay, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, a Spinning Babies Certified Parent Educator, and a Certified Lactation Counselor. Before becoming a doula I worked with children in education, specializing in care for kids with special needs. I absolutely loved my job. This sparked an initial passion in me for children and their care. In 2014 my husband and I found out we were going to have our first baby. So exciting (but also a little scary)! I quickly realized how significant care for mom and baby is during pregnancy, birth and newborn stages. Oftentimes we emphasize the care a baby needs. It’s natural - they’re so small and rely on us for everything. But while their care is so important, we can inadvertently disregard the care moms need as well. It was through my own experience I learned that great care for baby begins with great care for mom. It was that truth that turned my initial spark of passion into a life changing journey. I was hooked. Being a doula has been the most rewarding and satisfying job of my life (besides being a mommy). My research, training, and extended experience has shaped the way I approach doula care: I support informed birth choices and empowerment. In simple terms, I believe all moms should have the support to birth and care for their baby, their way. No pressure and no judgment. I’ve worked with moms who know exactly what they want and need my help to achieve that. I love that! I’m on your team all the way. Other times moms need help figuring out what they want, and I love that too! It allows me to offer them all of the information, research and education I have stored up so they can have that “Aha!” moment when they finally discover which approach resonates with them. It’s such a beautiful thing! I truly believe great care is hinged on great education. I’m extremely passionate about educating mothers to learn what changes are occurring in her body, details about labor and delivery, as well as providing comfort measures to ease her body into birthing her baby. It’s my goal to support you by offering evidence-based information, teaching you how to self advocate for your needs, and being physically present at the delivery, as well as providing continued postpartum care. I come from a diverse background and have had 3 very different birth experiences. After having my last baby in 2021 I became incredibly invested in women’s birthing experiences, before, during and after and through research saw that there was a need in my area for supportive women just like me. As a birth doula based in central NJ, my practice is influenced by my experience as a massage therapist for over 30 years. I have broad understanding of the physical challenges facing pregnant and postpartum individuals. I’m certified as Body Ready Method™ professional to address body alignment issues during pregnancy, which can result in a more optimal labor and birth. I attend births as a Doula on a limited basis, generally taking one client per month. I have experience supporting clients that are giving birth at home, in the hospital or a birth center. Michelle is the owner of Baby, Please Birth Services Agency located in NJ but with a team serving the metropolitan areas of (NY, PA & CT) as well as Baltimore. She is a certified Doula and certified Childbirth Educator teaching the Bradley Method ®, and her own Holistic Course expressly for The Birth Center of NJ of which she is the Doula Director. Michelle serves on the National Black Doula Association (NBDA) Advisory Board where she revised the doula training curriculum to enhance the needs of Black Doulas working in systemically racist environments. As a NBDA Doula Instructor and Doula Mentor she spends her time providing critical thinking skills for her students to be successful and competent in their fields. Two prenatal visits (preferably one in your home), birth plan support and planning, materials and resources created for your keeping, continuous support from active labor through the hour+ after your birth, and one postpartum visit at your home.
