My doula journey started in 2017 and I quickly integrated my years of yoga practice into my doula services by completing my 200-hour and prenatal yoga teacher training in 2018 and my traditional Thai massage training in 2019. My name is Janee and I live in Cypress with my husband, Jake and our 4 daughters. After the birth of my first daughter, I realized how underprepared I was for labor. I looked back on my experience unhappy with the things that were ‘done to me,’ rather than being able to make educated decisions based on evidence and my maternal instincts. During my second pregnancy, I knew I wanted to be more prepared and have a completely different birth experience. I did a lot of research on evidence-based practices and created an ideal vision for what I wanted this next birth to look like. After my dream birth, I immediately felt justified for wanting more for myself AND my baby. I had a newfound sense of empowerment as a mother. Ever since, I knew I wanted to be a part of this amazing birth community to help other families feel this same joy. Following that pull, I completed my birth and postpartum doula certification through Bini Birth in Sherman Oaks. Learning from Kathrin Auger and Ana Paula Markel only affirmed that this is the work I am meant to do. After high school I found a maternity clinic in the Philippines offering midwifery training and began my journey there.
