As a first-time mom, I had so many questions (and new ones seemed to come up every week!), and working with Elmira has made such a difference in my pregnancy experience. Even before our birth, she has been incredibly proactive, checking in regularly, answering every question with patience, and often anticipating concerns before I even think to ask. I never feel like I'm bothering her, and that kind of support has given me so much reassurance during a time that can feel overwhelming. One thing that has been especially meaningful for my husband and me is that we're an international couple. Elmira understands both of our languages and cultures, and she naturally incorporates that into the way she communicates and supports us. It has made us both feel seen, understood, and included throughout this journey. We're genuinely looking forward to taking her birthing classes together because we've already learned so much from her. She has a calming presence, is incredibly knowledgeable, and truly cares about the families she works with. If you're looking for a doula who is responsive, compassionate, and invested in helping you feel informed and confident every step of the way, I wholeheartedly recommend Elmira. We're so grateful to have found her and can't wait to continue this journey with her.

We cannot recommend Elanor enough. She is an incredible full-time nanny for our family, and has been for the last five years. She handled our first child and then transitioned to handing both when we had our second; she was especially amazing while juggling our newborn and toddler. She is calm, patient, warm, and has never once raised her voice - a quality that has been especially wonderful for our sensitive children. At the same time, she is firm and consistent, sets clear boundaries, and is excellent at discipline in a calm and respectful way. She is incredibly flexible, often staying late or coming early when needed, and even traveled with us on many family vacations, giving us daytime coverage and the opportunity for much needed date nights. She also handles doctor appointments, kids sports/activities, and all the everyday logistics of caring for two young children. She became such a trusted and important part of our family, and we feel incredibly lucky to have her in our children’s lives.

Joan Sherwood

Responds within a few hours

I am Joan Sherwood, founder of Peaceful Beginnings To You. My calling to become a doula was born from a personal experience. During the birth of my child, I was left alone in a hospital room without any support. My spouse and brother were sent home because I was not in active labor. My water had broken, so I was admitted, and I faced the daunting process of labor alone, in a secluded area until it was time to push. This experience, where I delivered a 9 -pound, 2-ounce baby without my loved one's present, ignited my passion to ensure that no other person would have to endure such solitude. My journey as a doula began 25 years ago when I assisted a family member through labor. Since then, I have been a source of support and guidance for family and friends, which eventually led me to pursue certification as a birth doula through DONA International. I am deeply committed to holistic birth and postpartum care, and my extensive training reflects this dedication. My education includes a Family Development Credential, studies at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, the Center for Homeopathic Education, and the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences. I am also a certified Calm Birth Instructor, Infant Massage Instructor Trainer, Womb Sauna Practitioner, and have received postpartum training from Indigemama, BirthMama, Traditional Postpartum Practitioner, and Birth Arts International. My approach to doula care is centered on the needs of the laboring person. I come with no preconceived notions, and I remain as fluid and flexible as possible to meet the evolving needs of each individual. In addition, to running my private doula practice, I have provided doula care to underserved communities as a doula and doula mentor for a federally funded program in Brooklyn.

Joan was my doula for both my pregnancies, one in 2014 for my now 8 year old and again during the pandemic for my 2 year old. I highly recommend Joan she provided such consistent support during both pregnancy, while birthing and postpartum. I was so fortune because Joan is just naturally resourceful and intuitive and she was right by my side every step the way. To this day I consider her such an empowering and beautiful human being and I am thankful that she was with me on my journey into motherhood -- I would choose her again and again and again!!!

When I found out I was expecting, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. I knew I wanted support during my pregnancy and birth, but I wasn’t entirely sure what that would look like. After some research, I decided to hire a doula, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made. From our first meeting, my doula was a calming presence. She not only helped me prepare emotionally for labor, but also educated me about my options, answered all my questions, and helped me feel more confident in my choices. During labor, she was a steady source of support, guiding me in each choice . Having a doula made my birth experience so much easier and lovely . I felt respected. Thank you for everything ??

Her passion for childbirth began in her birthing her four children within five years and learning the amazing power of the mind, soul, and body in physiologic birth and thereafter. Becoming a DONA trained Doula has given her the professional skills and resources to help other birthing people and their partner(s) awaken and tune into this power. As your Doula, she is honored to hold space for you and meet you where you are along your reproductive journey. She will provide emotional, informational, and physical support and hold your hand as you learn to advocate for your preferences in what is the most personal and sacred time in your life. By encouraging you to feel confident, fully supported, in control of your choices, and well equipped with the tools and comfort measures, her goal is to help you optimize any path your birth takes. She especially wants to do all she can to educate the community about the power of birth support, increase access to these evidence based services, and work with BBIPOC and trans and queer birthing people who often experience trauma and inequitable care along their gestational journey. As a Latinx Doula, she is a strong proponent of reclaiming and honoring the cultural roots of birthing communities and their traditional practices. Elizabeth is bilingual in Spanish.

Elizabeth is absolutely amazing! We used her for our second pregnancy, which really says it all. After having such a great experience the first time around, there was no question that we wanted her by our side again. She is incredibly responsive, always available to answer questions, and provided guidance and support around the clock throughout the pregnancy. She was a huge help to my wife, but also to me as a husband. Having someone knowledgeable, reassuring, and supportive there whenever we needed her made such a difference. I cannot recommend Elizabeth enough. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, I would highly recommend having her in your corner. We are so grateful for everything she did for our family!

Hey, I’m Kaleish, a public health practitioner, doctoral student (in public health) and a certified full-spectrum (birth and postpartum) doula. I currently hold certifications in providing NICU doula support as well as High Risk doula support. I am currently in training to be a certified community lactation educator. Think of me as your perinatal support person. I support women and birthing people of color who are feeling dismissed, unsure, or overwhelmed during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I started this work because I realized how many women of color are navigating pregnancy without the support, guidance, or advocacy they deserve. It deeply concerns me how often Black and Brown women have their concerns dismissed by medical providers—sometimes resulting in traumatic and avoidable birth experiences. Now, I help women and birthing people of color move from feeling unheard and unsure to feeling informed, supported, and empowered to advocate for themselves and their birth preferences. If you’re a woman or birthing person of color feeling dismissed, unsure, or overwhelmed—you’re in the right place. This journey is yours. I’m simply here to hold space, answer your questions, and make sure you feel safe, seen, and supported every step of the way. Random Facts: I've supported births at Katz Women's Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Hungtinton Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. I am a lefty/ left handed. I don't have a sense of direction even with a map, however, I will find my way to support you. I was born in the Caribbean and spent most of my childhood and some of my teenage years living there. I love me some 80s and 90s black sitcoms. Book Your Free Consultation: Book Now via https://calendly.com/kaysgentlehands/30min?back=1&month=2026-07

Hi, I'm Taylor Clarke-Cameron, a birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator based in New Jersey. Since launching my doula practice in December 2024, I've had the privilege of supporting 15 families and attending 13 births, and every single one has deepened my commitment to this work. Before stepping into birth work, I spent over a decade as a school administrator — advocating for individuals, navigating complex systems, and building trust with families during some of the most pivotal moments of their lives. That foundation shapes everything I do as a doula: I show up informed, steady, and fully in your corner. My mission is simple: every birthing person deserves to feel informed, empowered, and supported — no exceptions. I am proudly affirming of all families, including single parents, multicultural and multi-religious families, LGBTQIA+ families, parents with disabilities, parents who are neurodivergent, and those growing their families through adoption. My Approach Universal Support, Personal Touch Birth is universal—it's happened across cultures, centuries, and countless galaxies of human experience. Yet YOUR birth is uniquely yours, a wonder that deserves celebration and support tailored specifically to your needs. Whether you're a single parent writing your own heroic story, part of a multicultural or multi-religious family blending beautiful traditions, navigating parenthood in the LGBTQIA+ community, a differently-abled parent, a neurodivergent parent, or creating your family through adoption—I am here for YOU. Taylor was my birth doula, and I truly feel it was divine intervention that she came into my life—especially since my son was born on her birthday. From the very beginning, she was incredibly attentive, informative, and intentional in supporting both me and my husband. She created a detailed binder for us with guides on what to expect, postpartum care, exercises, and nutritious foods that were safe for both me and my baby. The information was so thorough that I never felt the need to search elsewhere. One moment that deeply stood out to me was when I shared that I wanted to play Surahs during my labor and delivery. At our next visit, Taylor had printed out different Surahs along with explanations of their purposes, making it easier for me to choose what I wanted to hear. That level of thoughtfulness meant so much to me. I also appreciated her honesty and professionalism. If she didn’t know something, she would say so—then either refer me to my midwives or research and follow up with me. During labor and delivery, she was calm, knowledgeable, and attentive. She impressed the medical staff, made me feel safe and advocated for, and ensured my husband felt supported and confident asking questions. Taylor made a huge impact on my first delivery, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better doula. Even now, she continues to send monthly emails with updates on my son’s development and what to expect as I heal. Taylor is amazing, and it’s clear she genuinely cares about what she does.

I don’t know how I would have navigated my pregnancy and birth without Alexa. I wish I had found her earlier in my pregnancy but she showed up at just the right time! From my very first massage with Alexa, she made me feel seen, heard, and cared for. She took the time to understand my fears and hopes, and she held space for me in a way that made a world of difference. During pregnancy, her massages were moments where I could finally exhale, feel safe, and reconnect with my body. During labor, she was my anchor, reminding me that I was capable, and this was MY birth. Alexa was a source of warmth, reassurance, and love through our most vulnerable moments. She massaged my very swollen legs and feet all night into the morning, helped me find comfortable positions, and encouraged me every step of the way. But it was during my birth that her presence became something I will never forget. I did not have an easy delivery but Alexa brought comfort when I felt scared, strength when I felt overwhelmed, and a sense of calm that grounded me through every contraction and every wave of emotion that came after. Her massages helped me feel human again when pregnancy felt heavy, and her support during labor helped me tap into a strength I didn’t know existed inside me. Alexa's presence gave me the confidence I needed to endure such an intense experience. I’ll forever be thankful for her support. I also loved having her in our home for our postpartum visit and sharing my beautiful boy with her. For any first-time mom, Alexa is an absolute gift. She gave us more than support, she gave us peace. I’ll treasure her role in our story forever.??

Hi, I’m Angela — a mother, grandmother, and postpartum doula based in New Jersey, proudly serving families throughout the NJ/NY/CT tristate area. I am deeply passionate about supporting families during the tender and transformative postpartum period, offering calm, compassionate care when it’s needed most. I have supported over 40 families and their newborns, some through birth, and several others through overnight postpartum care and newborn support, helping parents rest, recover, and confidently adjust to their new reality. While I also provide daytime care, my primary focus is overnight support for families who need specialized, hands-on assistance during the early weeks after birth. My passion for postpartum care grew from my own journey into motherhood, when I realized how essential it is for birthing parents to feel nurtured, supported, and truly seen after birth. What began as caring for family and friends naturally evolved into my calling as a postpartum doula. Later on, I expanded my work to support expectant mothers throughout pregnancy and birth, offering compassionate physical and emotional care. In addition to my doula work, I bring over 15 years of experience caring for children and teenagers, along with nearly two decades of volunteer service supporting parents, children, and teens in my community. I approach every family with warmth, respect, and a wholehearted commitment to helping you feel confident, supported, and cared for during this beautiful new chapter.

From the very first moment, she was gentle, knowledgeable, and incredibly nurturing. Her care is rooted in deep Ayurvedic wisdom, and she combines it beautifully with modern newborn support. She went above and beyond in every way. ✨ Labor & Delivery Support Having her with me during labor and delivery made all the difference. She was calm, encouraging, and present through every contraction and every moment of uncertainty. Her guidance helped me stay mentally strong and physically supported. I truly don’t know how I would have done it without her. ✨ Newborn Care She cared for our baby with so much love — from Ayurvedic oil massages, creating gentle daily routines, helping with gas/colic relief, and supporting healthy sleep patterns. Every single thing was done so thoughtfully and respectfully. ✨ Postpartum Recovery For Me She didn’t just help with the baby — she took care of me as a mother: - Ayurvedic belly binding for core support - Warm oil massages - Herbal teas and foods that supported healing and milk production - Emotional and mental support on days I needed it most She made sure I rested, nourished my body, and felt seen and cared for — something every new mother deserves. ✨ Food & Meals Her freshly prepared Ayurvedic meals were amazing. Everything was warm, nourishing, and made to help my body recover and build strength. You can tell she puts her heart into every part of her work. ✨ Family Support She guided my husband, helped us understand newborn cues, and even shared tips that made our whole home more peaceful and soothing for the baby. She combines expertise, intuition, and compassion in a way that is rare to find. We felt protected, encouraged, and cared for every single day. Having Michelle as part of our birth process was one of the absolute best decisions we made. We really wanted someone who had a deep knowledge and could help prepare us yet also be emotionally / psychologically supportive - and she was incredible. Her calm yet empowering energy, her levelheaded acumen, her kind consideration and openness - she made all the difference not only in the delivery room but before and after as well! Michelle prepared us thoroughly regarding what to expect, provided us lots of 'tools' (i.e. resources, information, exercises, etc) to have in our toolbox, and when things were happening during labor she was a grounding presence able to help ask the right questions, make sure I was approaching things the way I wanted to, and we felt incredibly supported the whole time. She made the room a little oasis which I truly believe contributed to me relaxing and ultimately having a smooth delivery. She is the best - anyone would be lucky to have her on their team. <3
