My philosophy is rooted in prevention, presence and peace of mind. I believe every family deserves calm, respectful and individualized care as they welcome a new baby. I am there to steady the room—not to take over—so parents can rest, recover, ask questions and become more confident in understanding their baby and trusting themselves. I am passionate about overnight postpartum care, newborn safety, feeding and lactation support, and protecting the emotional well-being of the entire family. With more than 20 years of professional newborn and family-care experience, I understand that every household has its own values, preferences and rhythms. I listen carefully, support without judgment and offer evidence-informed guidance that is thoughtfully adapted to each family.

In the depths of my own postpartum dark night and fear literally spreading through the world on a global level, Bethany was the one simple, easy choice I made with zero regrets. Hmmmm. Do I want a loving, steady, calm, peaceful human being in my home? Do I want someone who will come with a song in her heart and thoughtful activities like children’s Yoga and books about Mrs. Badger’s mountain foraging adventures? Do I want that same thoughtfulness to radiate out to me in how she cares for my home while she’s there…the sink full of dishes done, the million little baby clothes all tidily folded and put away, the real human conversations that allow me today to call Bethany- not only an integral part of my support community-but also a friend? Yes! Yes. Yes. Yes. She’s worth every penny of the investment, and, even more than that…Mama, YOU are worth every penny of the investment. I think we are all waking up to the fact that how mothers and babies are treated matters. Not just to that one family she touches…but to the world as a whole. Bethany has devoted her life to centering the care of women and babies and, if you ask me, there is truly no higher or more impactful calling. 🩷

Xiomara Gittens

Peace and blessings! My name is Xiomara, I am a mother of a beautiful girl. I am from the very small town of Pemberton, located in Southern New Jersey. I take pride and I am inspired by my (Afro Caribbean-Latina) Panamanian roots and culture. I believe in holistic and wholistic healing and practices, and the balance between the two. I am 2x certified full spectrum doula, (through Doula Trainings International and the state of NJ via NJMIHIA), Reiki Master, and Placenta Specialist. I became a doula because of my own birthing experience, which led me to my passion for birth-work. Helping families by educating, advocating, and providing a safe space for a meaningful and purposeful birth. No birth is the same, no pregnancy is the same. However, by providing a safe space, and exceptional services, we can shift the narrative so that more families are aware of birth-workers within and outside of the healthcare system, with a focus on culturally competent care. Our mission at The Purple Purpose LLC is to inspire our clients to become the highest most confident versions of themselves, while embracing their journey, from the beginning until the end. We aim to bring forth a new way to assist families in maintaining their health and wellness, before, during, and after birth. We want to bring a deeper level of holistic and wholistic practice that will allow personal and professional growth, but most importantly, a safe, successful, and purposeful birth .

I had the pleasure of working with Xiomara for prenatal, birth, and postpartum support, and I can’t recommend her highly enough. She is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate about her work, and truly attentive to the needs of her clients. From the very beginning, she was professional and supportive, helping me create a birth plan that reflected my wishes and values. During labor, she was a strong advocate for me and played a key role in making the experience smooth and empowering. Thanks to her support, I was able to have an unmedicated birth, which was a significantly better experience compared to my first. Her care didn’t stop at birth—she continued to check in during the postpartum period and even recommended excellent services, like a lymphatic drainage massage, that really helped with recovery. She’s very well-connected and a great resource all around. If you’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate doula, Xio is absolutely the one to call.

I have witnessed firsthand the extraordinary compassion, dedication, and warmth she brings to every aspect of her life. I wholeheartedly believe she will be exceptional in this role. Makeda’s work ethic is something I have always deeply admired. When she commits to something, she gives it her entire heart. She approaches this work not as a casual interest but as a true calling. She studies diligently and constantly seeks to deepen her understanding of maternal and newborn health. Her professionalism is evident in how seriously she takes her preparation and how she holds herself accountable to the highest standards in everything she does. One of Makeda’s greatest gifts is her ability to communicate with both warmth and clarity. She has a natural way of making people feel heard and understood. Whether she is offering guidance to a new parent, sharing information, or simply listening, she creates a space of trust and safety. I have watched her interact with expectant and new mothers, and her presence is immediately calming. She has an intuitive ability to read a room, to know when someone needs encouragement and when they simply need a steady, reassuring hand. This is a rare and invaluable quality for someone entrusted with the care of newborns and their families. At her core, Makeda is one of the most compassionate and caring people I have ever known. Originally from Trinidad, she carries with her a deep cultural appreciation for community, family, and the sacred experience of welcoming new life into the world. Her background working with children has given her a profound understanding of families' needs and the importance of nurturing support during life’s most tender moments. She has a remarkable gift for connecting with little ones, offering patience, gentleness, and a love that is felt deeply by every child she cares for. Watching her with the children in our family has only strengthened my confidence that she is meant for this work. Makeda’s passion has also inspired me to advocate. She is deeply committed to ensuring that every mother and newborn receives informed, compassionate, and empowering care. She understands the disparities in maternal and infant healthcare and is driven by a genuine desire to make a difference - one family at a time. She is the kind of person who will stand beside a family not only during those precious early days but throughout the entire journey, with grace, knowledge, and an unshakable calm. She has the heart, the mind, and the spirit to be a truly outstanding Postpartum doula and Newborn Care Specialist. Any family that has her by their side will be profoundly fortunate.

I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about my doula, Tina Alisha. From the very beginning, she made me feel heard, supported, safe, and cared for. Her presence throughout my journey was truly a blessing, and I’m so grateful that I had her by my side. Tina went above and beyond to make sure I felt confident, informed, and prepared. She listened to my concerns without judgment, encouraged me when I needed it most, and reminded me of my strength when I needed that extra reassurance. Her compassion, patience, knowledge, and genuine love for what she does truly shine through. What stood out to me the most was how Tina made me feel like more than just a client. She genuinely cared about me, my experience, and my baby. She created a sense of comfort and peace during moments that could have easily felt overwhelming. Having Tina as my doula made such a beautiful difference in my experience. I'm so grateful to Dionne for the incredible support she provided. She is kind, empathetic and has a natural nurturing presence. Her calmness and gentle demeanor immediately made me feel comfortable and made it easy to trust her with my baby's care. She consistently went above and beyond, staying late to help me get through a tough morning, checking in between visits just to see how we were doing and anticipating needs I didn't even know to ask for. She is an exceptional person.

Marla McRay

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 5 years of experience

Marla McRay

Meet Marla, a dedicated birth doula whose practice blends compassionate, hands-on labor support with the power of hypnosis. With years of experience guiding families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, Marla offers more than physical comfort measures—she brings a toolkit of relaxation and hypnosis techniques designed to help you feel calm, capable, and in control throughout your birth experience. Hypnosis for birth works by helping you shift out of fear and tension and into a state of deep relaxation, where your body can labor more naturally and efficiently. The benefits are well documented: Reduced perceived pain — Deep relaxation lowers the body's stress response, which can ease the intensity of contractions. Shorter, smoother labors — When fear and tension decrease, labor often progresses more efficiently because the body isn't working against itself. Less need for medical pain intervention — Many who practice hypnosis techniques report needing fewer interventions like epidurals or pain medication. Greater sense of calm and control — Guided visualization and positive suggestion help you stay present and confident rather than overwhelmed. Faster postpartum recovery — Lower stress hormones during labor are linked to a smoother transition into postpartum healing and bonding. With Marla by your side, you'll learn self-hypnosis and relaxation techniques well before your due date, so that by the time labor begins, your mind and body already know how to work together. Her goal is simple: to help you feel supported, empowered, and deeply at peace as you welcome your baby into the world.

We are so grateful for Toni and cannot recommend her highly enough. She supported our family as a night doula for our son Wes from birth through eight weeks, and her impact was truly life-changing. Toni brought expertise, calm, and warmth into our home during a time that can feel overwhelming, helping us establish healthy sleep routines, understand cues, and build confidence as new parents. We trusted her completely, and she cared for Wes with such love and attentiveness. Beyond caring for our newborn, Toni helped us organize our lives, create structure, and make our days feel manageable and supported. Because of her guidance, our nights were peaceful, our days ran more smoothly, and we were able to enjoy the early weeks instead of just surviving them. She is exceptional at what she does, and our family will always be grateful for her.
