Peace, my name is Shantique Smith-Hayes and I am a Certified Holistic Birth and Postpartum Doula in Milwaukee, WI. I am the Wife to an amazing Husband, and Mother of two lovely Daughters- ages 8 and almost 3. In my free time I love to lay out on my couch, in front of my big patio windows, cup of tea in hand, sun beaming, watching Nature do its thing. I enjoy traveling, reading books that make me feel good, painting, letting my inner child shine, and indulging in flavorful foods– Soul Food, Jamaican Food, Carribean Food, Mexican Food, you name it! I am authentically and purposefully myself. I take pride in having such a bright, Sunflower Aura. My philosophy is that every mother and baby, regardless of circumstances at time of conception, should have access to quality, personal, supportive care. As a Holistic Doula, my approach to pregnancy and childbirth recognizes that a woman's body is naturally designed to conceive, nourish, and give birth to their baby(ies). Our wombs are our centers and do far more than produce babies: they give birth to the power in us. I am a firm believer that the more you know, the less you fear. In my practice, I review the different phases of labor, positioning of baby and pain management techniques to help cope with the discomforts of contractions. I educate women of their birthing rights and help create an individualized birth plan, ensuring that they feel confident advocating for themselves and their healthy birthing experience. I offer 1:1 individualized prenatal wellness education on topics such as: prenatal care, pregnancy related physical and emotional changes, childbirth, breastfeeding, postpartum changes, parenting roles, and newborn care and safety. My doula work involves gentle practices such as breathwork and gentle stretching, utilizing herbal medicine, taking meditative walks in nature, intuitive painting, aromacaress therapy with infused oils and essential oils, and gentle womb massages. Each of these practices has a unique way of showing us who we really are- unmasked, vulnerable, courageous and bold. These practices equip women with the tools necessary for a safe, successful and memorable pregnancy and birthing experience; all of which in turn reduces the risk of undesirable pregnancies and birth outcomes in black maternal health.

Shantique was the doula for a patient I was caring for recently. Our mother desired an unmedicated, natural birth. She was highly motivated and successful with her plan much due to the coaching provided by Shantique. She was professional and knowledgeable about the labor process. She was by her side the entire time to encourage the patient and reassure her even when she thought she couldn't do it anymore. I enjoyed working with Shantique and look forward to working with her again! Sincerely, Lynne RN

I've been married for more than 26 years, and my greatest joy in life is being a mom to my three wonderful children. When I'm not spending time with my family, you'll most likely find me cooking for the people I love, curled up with a good book, going for a run or walk (on a good day!), or finding ways to encourage and support young families. Home-cooked meals and great big hugs are definitely my love languages or at least the way I most naturally show people they're cared for. I've always been a "baby person." For more than 30 years, I've had the privilege of working with children and families in one way or another. But it wasn't until I became a mother myself that my heart truly opened to what new parents experience. I remember so clearly what those early days felt like, the questions, the exhaustion, the joy, and the tenderness of it all. That experience grew my love for babies into a deep compassion for moms and dads as they navigate the beautiful and often overwhelming transition into parenthood. For more than eight years, I've had the joy and honor of serving families as a birth doula, and for over seven years as a postpartum doula. I'm also a Hypnobabies Hypno-Doula and a pediatric sleep consultant, which allows me to support families not only through birth but throughout those precious early weeks and months when everything feels so new.

If you would have told me two weeks ago that my little boy would be sleeping independently tonight, I dont think I would have believed it. We were doing all the things that are antithetical to independent sleep - bedsharing, nursing to sleep, contact napping. Initially, sleep training sounded like this impossible hurdle. Around 5 months, it became clear that my son wasn't getting the sleep he needed. His naps were short and it was so hard to get him to sleep, even with all the aids we were giving him. My sweet, cuddly contact naps had quickly changed from relaxing to exhausting for both me and my baby. My mom recommended that I reach out to Tonya and thank goodness that I did!! She answered right away and put a plan and some tips together for us within just a couple of days. She gave us some strategies that we could try and helped us choose which one was right for us. When the day came to sleep train, she was so responsive and supportive. With her encouragement, we made it through the first (very difficult) night. After that first night, things completely changed for us. With Tonyas continued guidance, we were able to get my son not only night trained, but nap trained as well. All in less than two weeks! Sleep training has been so difficult but beyond rewarding. I also know without a doubt that it would have been so much harder without Tonyas wisdom and guidance. If you need assistance with your little ones sleep, I highly (HIGHLY) recommend reaching out! She is so attentive, so caring, and so supportive of whatever is right for your family.

Lynn began her indie doula and photography practice in 2018. Her background is in reproductive health and non profits as an educator, direct care professional, and in state policy and project management. She has a BA in Gender Studies, is a certified birth, postpartum, and full spectrum doula, a childbirth educator, and a member of the Queer Doula Network. She hangs her fanny pack in Andersonville where she lives with her wife Mercedes -- a deep-hearted middle school teacher she's spellbound by, and with whom she shares the creative practice called home. Weaving together modern and traditional approaches, her support with families focuses on body literacy and agency, trauma and healing, educating and preparing for birth and postpartum, collective care, caretaking and parenting, honoring transitions, and nurturing relationships (including sex and intimacy). Knowledge building is a collaborative mixture of education, experience, and intuition. At the heart of it: you belong to yourself and are the expert of your own experience. She is committed to trauma-informed practices and co-creating safer spaces by being body- and sex-positive, anti-racist, pro-choice, queer and gender affirming, and welcoming to solo, poly, blended, or communal families. Your care should be designed for your comfort, needs, and wants. It should see you in your full context – your stage of life, unique body, lived experience, culture, community, ability, desires, and dreams.

Liam is an extremely caring, intelligent and respectful doula. She sat with me in a lot of grief and anxiety in my fifth pregnancy, (my last one, following three miscarriages.) She rode through the dark moments with me and really helped me mentally prepare for giving birth to a living baby, which I had struggled to mentally accept as possibility. She made sure that I was comfortable enough to take my last birthing experience into my own hands. I truly couldn’t have done it without her experience, care and dedication.
