I usually say I accidentally fell into the field of birth work, but I guess that's not totally true. After spending a decade abroad running a foster home/cardiac surgery program for babies with complex congenital heart defects and maternal/fetal health programs for at-risk indigenous families, I unexpectedly found myself stuck in New York City in early 2020, waiting out this little bug called "Covid-19" that was shutting borders all around the world... I certified as a birth & postpartum doula in the USA in 2020, to be with my best friend for the birth of her first child in the midst of Covid protocols.
