Hi, I’m Janelle! With my extensive experience as a mother of two, rigorous birth and postpartum DONA certification, Master’s in Health Administration, and training as a health and wellness coach, I offer a unique set of experiences that blend compassionate care, evidence-based knowledge, and whole-person wellness to support women through every stage of their motherhood journey. My own vastly different birth journeys - one C-section and one VBAC - opened my eyes to how different each experience can be, yet how deeply every mother deserves to feel supported, informed, and empowered. My own doula supported and empowered me through those experiences and inspired me to create FlourisHER Way Birth and Wellness, a space where women can receive both practical and emotional support through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. I bring a wealth of related experience, with years in healthcare leadership and wellness coaching, to countless hours walking alongside moms as they navigate nourishment, rest, identity shifts, and self-care. My approach is gentle and empowering, and I bring that same calm, grounded, and nurturing presence into my doula work. I believe every mother and birthing person deserves to feel confident, cared for, and fully supported - physically, emotionally, and mentally - as they bring new life into the world. Through my work and my heart as a mom, I’ve learned that thriving in motherhood takes more than just physical recovery — it’s about nourishment, rest, emotional balance, and rediscovering yourself in this new chapter. My approach is gentle, personalized, and rooted in helping mothers flourish — body, mind, and spirit — as they welcome new life and step into their strongest selves. My approach is gentle, reassuring, and deeply personal. Together, we’ll honor your body, your intuition, and your story as you flourish in your own unique way!

I would recommend Janelle as a doula to anyone! She did such a good job of prepping us beforehand and supporting us throughout labor. I was very happy to be able to focus on helping my wife throughout her labor instead of worrying about every little thing. We are so thankful for Janelle!!

Jessica is an absolute gift. She walked with me from prenatal to delivery and I am forever grateful for that. Jessica communicated quickly and thoughtfully when I needed her virtually, offering advice and encouragement when I needed it most. When she arrived during labor, she became everything I needed. She was able to read the room and mood to know if I needed encouragement or options or if I just needed to vent or cry. The way she carries herself with her knowledge, the nurses and providers also respected her which created the most joyous environment for birth. I wasn’t able to see her during delivery but I could hear her words of encouragement ringing through the room. One of my other supporter persons told me Jessica jumped for joy when my daughter was born. That’s who she is- someone who knows birth, loves moms, loves birth and will literally jump for joy with you!

As a certified birth doula, I'm passionate about supporting families through the incredible journey of childbirth. Being bilingual in Spanish and English allows me to connect with a diverse range of clients, ensuring everyone feels understood and supported. As a Latina Mexican American, I’m deeply committed to reproductive justice and making sure that every birthing person, regardless of gender, feels safe and respected. My goal is to provide inclusive care that honors each person’s unique experience. When I’m not working, I’m a full-time mom who loves to volunteer and give back to the community. I have a special interest in human milk and chestfeeding, and I’m dedicated to helping parents navigate this important aspect of early parenting. I also enjoy educating parents on safe co-sleeping practices and cloth diapering. Additionally, I offer free emotional support for those considering or undergoing abortions, ensuring they have the compassionate care they need. If there’s something I don’t know, I’ll find the right expert for you. In my downtime, you can often find me enjoying a green tea matcha oat latte with lavender honey, my favorite treat. I’m all about creating a warm, welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.

I generally don't respond to requests through here, I can easily be found through various locations. My journey into midwifery started with the birth of my first child Oliana who was born by cesarean after planning a homebirth. That birth left me excited to be a mother but also confused about healing and breastfeeding. I had a lot of support in the postpartum including from our local ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) chapter. Community was important in healing and building me up as a mother during my early parenting years and community is what drives me today. In 2009 I attended Birthing From Within training in Austin learning the art of mentoring new parents through the childbearing year. My youngest child Silas was born at home in 2011, I stepped back from birth work during my pregnancy and the years after he was born. I found I needed a lot of quiet contemplation during this time and he needed a lot of time with me. In 2014 I attended toLabor doula and activist training and started a midwifery apprenticeship with CHOICE. In 2018 I became a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) specialized in out of hospital birth. I live in Columbus with my two children. We have a thriving backyard garden and are into composting and sustainable growing practices. I’m an avid reader and researcher. I try to keep up with current research around the pregnancy year and take multiple trainings a year to broaden my knowledge base. I support clients seeking homebirth and monitrice care in the Columbus, Ohio metro area and offer online coaching sessions to people who live outside of my radius of roughly an hour. I have a special interest in families planning a VBAC and HBAC (Vaginal/Home Birth After Cesarean). I am an Army veteran serving 4 years on active duty in Germany and 3 years in the reserves in Columbus. I have an undergraduate degree from Ohio State in Political Science and Women’s Studies (now Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies).
