I am a labor support specialist—“doula”—who is with you during childbirth to help you stay calm and comfortable as you move through your birthing process, give you information about your care and help you achieve your goals. My Background, Education and Philosophy I am Imani Abdul-Zahir. I was born and raised in the inner city of Cleveland Ohio. I am a doula with 27 years of experience and was trained by Birthing Beautiful Communities (a 501c3 non-profit). My philosophy about birth is that it is a normal bodily function governed by biological and psychological mechanisms, and is not a medical condition. Many communities of color have historically been built and maintained around the concept of “it takes a village”. Caring for mother and baby throughout pregnancy and during childbirth is essential for successful societies. Those with knowledge, experience and expertise have an obligation to educate, support and assist. My core values are commitment, compassion, & knowledge. I have a strong commitment to serving the needs of pregnant people in our community through compassion and evidence-based practices. My priorities as a doula are four, to ensure, educate, reassure & elevate. 1. to ensure that my clients receive the best hands-on care, comfort, and assistance during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and recovery. 2. to educate my clients regarding pregnancy, labor, delivery & recovery as well as what they may expect from hospitals and medical staff. Also to provide connections and access to other beneficial resources. 3. to reassure clients that their birth is their own and they have what they need, within themselves, and at their disposal to secure a healthy, safe and positive birth experience. 4. to help elevate clients above their fears, insecurities & expectations using positive encouragement and emotional support. My goals are to help reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate, to help people to have the safest, healthiest birth possible, and to restore a sense of well being to those who are childbearing through careful postpartum care. The first step in getting you the support you deserve is to schedule an intake meeting. During the intake meeting, I will answer any questions you might have, learn about your family needs and how I can best support you.

My experience with doula Imani was beyond wonderful, from the very beginning to the very end of my pregnancy she was kind, caring, understanding and patient throughtout. Considering the fact that this was frist pregnancy, she always made herself available and approahcable about any concerns I may have had regarding issues such as labor, breastfeeding, and the way my body was changing. Due to COVID-19 most of our meetings had to be done via zoom during which she always showed up on time and would discuss various things such as doctor's appointments, birthing plans, and even her own birthing experiences which made me feel less uncomfortable about certain issues. I was in labor for 3 days and from my house to the time we went to the hospital she was by my side making sure everything with me and the baby was alright. Overall, choosing Imani to be my doula was probably the best decision I could have made during my pregrancy and I would definitely chose her again!

Jena is an incredibly caring doula. She spent as much time as we needed before I gave birth to answer all of our questions, even some we didn't know we had! I loved the various comfort items she brought to the hospital to help set a serene vibe. I loved going to her pre-natal yoga classes on Saturdays in Lakewood, they were amazing. I would recommend Jena to anyone, home or hospital birth!

When I think of nurture, I think of Lisa. I was a scared, first time mom of twin girls. I had no female role model in my life. Then we met Lisa. She not only helped care for my girls, she cared for me and taught me so much on how to be a good mother to my girls, while also being good to myself. I owe so much to her for all her support and love.

We had the pleasure of working with CLE Baby for our third child, who is now seven months old and was struggling to sleep through the night. Our first two children were sleep trained by five months, so we thought we had things figured out—but our third truly threw us a curveball. Every time we put her down in the crib, she would cry, and we felt unsure of where to turn. Enter Lauren, who truly is a baby wizard and completely changed our lives. After months of sleepless nights, Lauren came in and, on the very first night, helped our baby sleep through the night—it felt nothing short of a miracle. She was incredibly thorough, knowledgeable, and supportive, helping us establish healthy sleep habits and a well-balanced schedule that ensured our baby was getting enough calories during the day, plenty of playtime, and restful sleep at night. Throughout her time with us, Lauren shared an incredible amount of knowledge and guidance. When she left (tears included on my part), she provided us with a detailed packet outlining everything accomplished in just four short days, including milestones, schedules, upcoming developmental leaps, travel guidance, and a comprehensive sleep log. I truly cannot say enough about how much Lauren and CLE Baby have changed our family’s life. For the first time, all three of our children are sleeping at once—which feels like a miracle in itself. If you are having any sleep challenges or want your little one to sleep through the night, I cannot recommend CLE Baby highly enough. What makes this experience even more special is that Lauren continues to check in and stays in touch. The relationship didn’t end after those four days, and it’s reassuring to know she’s still there for questions and support. This was exactly what we were looking for, and I’m so grateful we reached out when we did. CLE Baby was absolutely worth it in every way.

Jess was our night doula for our third baby. We didn’t have a night doula for our first two babies so we weren’t entirely sure what to expect. Jess is kind, knowledgeable, loving, and so supportive. She helped me navigate my feeding journey and our daughter’s milk/soy allergy. She communicates with you the nights she’s coming to check in on how you and your baby are doing and provides help and guidance if you need on feeding, sleep, etc. I had postpartum depression with my first two kids and didn’t with my third, and I owe that all to Jess. I was able to sleep more and feel emotionally supported. She also loved our daughter and was very nurturing. I highly recommend her!

I Hey, I’m Simone. I am a doula that services the metro Cleveland area. I’ve always felt when you start with the woman or the mother, you are saving the community. With that being said, one of my goals is to make sure I can help and educate women as much as possible, so not only are they getting the necessary information for them to have a successful birth but to set them up for success for years to come as a mother. When going thru the birthing experience it’s important to have an advocate who is there solely on your behalf and my job just that! After I had my daughter women’s health became a big priority for me, I made an instant decision that my goal is to help women have the opportunities during labor that I didn’t get, so let me give you that opportunity starting now. I am born and raised Cleveland native, and a mother of 1. I have a sassy 3-year-old whose going on 33, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. When I had my daughter, I had an advocate but unfortunately, I still had to have a cesarean section, which devasted me, that’s story for another day lol, but it allowed me to see the vision I wanted to partake in this health field world. As a child I always stated I wanted to be an Obstetrician, so being in Women’s Health and becoming a doula has been a great opportunity and let’s be honest full circle for me. Being able to have that 1-on-1 support and advocate for you during your birthing journey is a wonderful experience. I am a DONA trained Certified doula, a nursing student with plans on being in labor & delivery, as well as plan on furthering my education by becoming a Certified Midwife. Not only is my goal to service women during this time to help their needs and wants of their birthing journey come into fruition, but to change the narrative and help the mortality rate decrease for women of color. I have a passion for this and my compassion and empathy for women make me the perfect doula just for you! I look forward to meeting you and your baby!
