Amelia is a DONA trained birth doula (2019) from Minnesota. She holds a BA in Global Studies with emphasis on South American studies and Global Public Health. Birthwork found her when she was working on a research project about women giving birth in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Following her project, she immediately got trained as a birth doula and hit the ground running. She was a volunteer doula for the first part of her doula career while simultaneously working as a health educator in non-profit clinics in both Minneapolis and Austin. Amelia eventually adhered to her calling and shifted to working in birthwork full time. For Amelia, birth is a sacred and ceremonial part of life. She is passionate about advocating for families and following their lead as they go through this transformational experience. Amelia enjoys incorporating essential oils, movement, meditation, mantra, and light touches of humor into her work. When I’m not at a birth, at church or in the gym, you can find me dancing in the kitchen with my hubby and toddler. We’re a spontaneous and adventurous family, always trying new things and constantly making s’mores in the backyard. Life is a precious gift and I’m always finding ways to soak it all in.
