Having Michelle as part of our birth process was one of the absolute best decisions we made. We really wanted someone who had a deep knowledge and could help prepare us yet also be emotionally / psychologically supportive - and she was incredible. Her calm yet empowering energy, her levelheaded acumen, her kind consideration and openness - she made all the difference not only in the delivery room but before and after as well! Michelle prepared us thoroughly regarding what to expect, provided us lots of 'tools' (i.e. resources, information, exercises, etc) to have in our toolbox, and when things were happening during labor she was a grounding presence able to help ask the right questions, make sure I was approaching things the way I wanted to, and we felt incredibly supported the whole time. She made the room a little oasis which I truly believe contributed to me relaxing and ultimately having a smooth delivery. She is the best - anyone would be lucky to have her on their team. <3

Liz Eidelman

Liz Eidelman is a mom of two daughters and a DONA International Doula & Birth Photographer from New Jersey. Shaped by her own birth experiences, Liz was called to support mothers in achieving empowerment through their own births. Her practice is rooted in deep mental and emotional support, specializing in natural deliveries and encouraging clients to look beyond the confines of what society tells us birth should be and instead look deep within to find their most fearless and capable selves. Liz is a Birth Becomes You Certified Birth Photographer and will soon be certified as a Hypnobirthing Educator (HBCE) in summer 2026. She supports clients from the onset of pregnancy all the way through postpartum, offering sage wisdom & sisterly kinship to every woman she serves.

My experience with Liz as my doula was truly phenomenal. From the moment we connected, I knew we were the right fit. Her communication was immediate and thoughtful, as a working mom, I deeply appreciated her sense of urgency and genuine desire to support moms in need. When we had our first meeting, we instantly clicked. She brought such a calm presence, yet also felt like having a big sister in the room with me, which, as a big sister myself, meant so much. I sought out a doula because I was considered “advanced maternal age” with my second baby, and there was a lot of fear-based messaging around potential complications and C-sections. I wanted strong advocacy in the room, support for my body, and a positive, smooth birth experience for both me and my son. I also hoped to delay an epidural as long as possible. Although I ended up being induced (not part of the original plan), Liz helped us adapt confidently. I didn’t receive an epidural until 8 cm, something I’m incredibly proud of, and I credit so much of that to her support (not to mention we also delivered a 10 lb 9 oz baby vaginally). Liz wasn’t just an asset to me, she was an anchor for my husband, too. The three of us truly felt like a team. Her birth classes helped us align on preferences and put our plan on paper, and I loved that she brought that plan into the delivery room and thoughtfully referenced it. Her attention to detail is unmatched. Leading up to delivery, she was a constant source of calm, especially during a major snowstorm when I worried I might go into labor early. After birth, when our son had a brief NICU stay and I experienced complications, Liz continued checking in on both me and my husband. That level of care speaks volumes. She is knowledgeable, certified, deeply compassionate, and incredibly detail-oriented, a true rockstar. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula.

My doula instructor, Michelle Gabriel-Caldwell, was truly exceptional. From the very first class, she set the tone for an open and supportive learning environment that encouraged honesty, curiosity, and self-growth. Her teaching style was unlike any other instructor I’ve had—she didn’t just read from a textbook. Instead, she brought the curriculum to life by sharing real-world experiences, lessons learned, and genuine passion for birth work. It was evident that she lives what she teaches and cares deeply about preparing her students to succeed not just in theory, but in practice. What stood out most about Michelle was her honesty and transparency. She didn’t sugarcoat what it means to be a doula or the realities that come with supporting mothers, babies, and families. She was upfront about the emotional and physical challenges that can arise, as well as the deep sense of purpose this work can bring. Her authenticity made me feel empowered to embrace every part of this journey the beautiful moments and the hard ones too Each lesson built upon the last in a way that was practical and meaningful. She encouraged dialogue, welcomed questions, and valued every student’s perspective. Her patience, compassion, and professionalism inspired me to become a doula who leads with both skill and heart. She reminded us that being a doula is not only about assisting during labor and birth, but also about advocacy, education, and emotional support that uplifts the entire family. The PHEI Doula Training Program under her instruction exceeded all expectations. Michelle Gabriel-Caldwell has a gift for teaching that blends knowledge, passion, and purpose. Because of her guidance, I completed this training with confidence, clarity, and a deeper commitment to serving women and families in my community. I am grateful for her dedication to empowering future doulas and for helping me discover my calling in this meaningful work.

Elizabeth Cano

Her passion for childbirth began in her birthing her four children within five years and learning the amazing power of the mind, soul, and body in physiologic birth and thereafter. Becoming a DONA trained Doula has given her the professional skills and resources to help other birthing people and their partner(s) awaken and tune into this power. As your Doula, she is honored to hold space for you and meet you where you are along your reproductive journey. She will provide emotional, informational, and physical support and hold your hand as you learn to advocate for your preferences in what is the most personal and sacred time in your life. By encouraging you to feel confident, fully supported, in control of your choices, and well equipped with the tools and comfort measures, her goal is to help you optimize any path your birth takes. She especially wants to do all she can to educate the community about the power of birth support, increase access to these evidence based services, and work with BBIPOC and trans and queer birthing people who often experience trauma and inequitable care along their gestational journey. As a Latinx Doula, she is a strong proponent of reclaiming and honoring the cultural roots of birthing communities and their traditional practices. Elizabeth is bilingual in Spanish.

I would recommend Elizabeth to anyone looking for a doula. She is compassionate, kind, knowledgeable and provides a much needed feeling of calm and stability to the delivery room. I believe she is the main reason I was able to have a successful VBAC and remain confident and strong throughout. Elizabeth was extremely responsive via text/phone and arrived at the hospital super quickly in the middle of the night when my water broke. When she arrived I was in so much pain from contractions and she jumped right in to help me, introducing easing movements, rubbing my back, and getting me a heating pad. She was an incredible support during the 12 hours of labor— she didn’t leave my side. Having her there to answer questions, provide reassurance, help with birthing positions, and advocate for me with hospital staff was a game changer. Thanks, Elizabeth, you are amazing!

Joan Sherwood

Joan Sherwood

31 years of experience

I am Joan Sherwood, founder of Peaceful Beginnings To You. My calling to become a doula was born from a personal experience. During the birth of my child, I was left alone in a hospital room without any support. My spouse and brother were sent home because I was not in active labor. My water had broken, so I was admitted, and I faced the daunting process of labor alone, in a secluded area until it was time to push. This experience, where I delivered a 9 -pound, 2-ounce baby without my loved one's present, ignited my passion to ensure that no other person would have to endure such solitude. My journey as a doula began 25 years ago when I assisted a family member through labor. Since then, I have been a source of support and guidance for family and friends, which eventually led me to pursue certification as a birth doula through DONA International. I am deeply committed to holistic birth and postpartum care, and my extensive training reflects this dedication. My education includes a Family Development Credential, studies at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, the Center for Homeopathic Education, and the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences. I am also a certified Calm Birth Instructor, Infant Massage Instructor Trainer, Womb Sauna Practitioner, and have received postpartum training from Indigemama, BirthMama, Traditional Postpartum Practitioner, and Birth Arts International. My approach to doula care is centered on the needs of the laboring person. I come with no preconceived notions, and I remain as fluid and flexible as possible to meet the evolving needs of each individual. In addition, to running my private doula practice, I have provided doula care to underserved communities as a doula and doula mentor for a federally funded program in Brooklyn.

Joan was my doula for both my pregnancies, one in 2014 for my now 8 year old and again during the pandemic for my 2 year old. I highly recommend Joan she provided such consistent support during both pregnancy, while birthing and postpartum. I was so fortune because Joan is just naturally resourceful and intuitive and she was right by my side every step the way. To this day I consider her such an empowering and beautiful human being and I am thankful that she was with me on my journey into motherhood -- I would choose her again and again and again!!!

Taylor Clarke-Cameron

Hi, I'm Taylor Clarke-Cameron, a birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator based in New Jersey. Since launching my doula practice in December 2024, I've had the privilege of supporting 15 families and attending 13 births, and every single one has deepened my commitment to this work. Before stepping into birth work, I spent over a decade as a school administrator — advocating for individuals, navigating complex systems, and building trust with families during some of the most pivotal moments of their lives. That foundation shapes everything I do as a doula: I show up informed, steady, and fully in your corner. My mission is simple: every birthing person deserves to feel informed, empowered, and supported — no exceptions. I am proudly affirming of all families, including single parents, multicultural and multi-religious families, LGBTQIA+ families, parents with disabilities, parents who are neurodivergent, and those growing their families through adoption. My Approach Universal Support, Personal Touch Birth is universal—it's happened across cultures, centuries, and countless galaxies of human experience. Yet YOUR birth is uniquely yours, a wonder that deserves celebration and support tailored specifically to your needs. Whether you're a single parent writing your own heroic story, part of a multicultural or multi-religious family blending beautiful traditions, navigating parenthood in the LGBTQIA+ community, a differently-abled parent, a neurodivergent parent, or creating your family through adoption—I am here for YOU. Your journey matters, your choices are valid, and your experience deserves nothing less than stellar support.

Taylor was my birth doula, and I truly feel it was divine intervention that she came into my life—especially since my son was born on her birthday. From the very beginning, she was incredibly attentive, informative, and intentional in supporting both me and my husband. She created a detailed binder for us with guides on what to expect, postpartum care, exercises, and nutritious foods that were safe for both me and my baby. The information was so thorough that I never felt the need to search elsewhere. One moment that deeply stood out to me was when I shared that I wanted to play Surahs during my labor and delivery. At our next visit, Taylor had printed out different Surahs along with explanations of their purposes, making it easier for me to choose what I wanted to hear. That level of thoughtfulness meant so much to me. I also appreciated her honesty and professionalism. If she didn’t know something, she would say so—then either refer me to my midwives or research and follow up with me. During labor and delivery, she was calm, knowledgeable, and attentive. She impressed the medical staff, made me feel safe and advocated for, and ensured my husband felt supported and confident asking questions. Taylor made a huge impact on my first delivery, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better doula. Even now, she continues to send monthly emails with updates on my son’s development and what to expect as I heal. Taylor is amazing, and it’s clear she genuinely cares about what she does.

Chandel is a gem! She was communicative from the start, and went the extra mile when it came to insurance verification, which is usually an annoying process. She was such a calming and supportive presence during those overwhelming first few weeks with our newborn. Her steady reassurance, patience, and kindness made a huge difference for our family during a challenging transition. We felt genuinely cared for and supported every step of the way.

I've been a childcare provider for 8 years. Worked as a pediatric medical assistant, postpartum doula, newborn care specialist, and a nanny. I have a diverse background in childcare. I'm passionate, patient and dedicated to assisting your family in the best way possible. I support your parenting philosophy and your home to the fullest. I also provide help around the home whether that be cooking, cleaning or any light household chores. In terms of my achievements, I have had the privilege of helping numerous families navigate the wonderful yet challenging journey of welcoming a new baby into their lives. Through my work as a Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist. I have been able to support new mothers in their physical and emotional recovery while providing essential care for their newborns. By implementing effective sleep and feeding routines, I have helped establish a sense of calm and stability during the critical postpartum period.

Recent review

Breanna Gay was an amazing postpartum doula for our newborn baby boy Dekari from June 2023 to August 2023. She was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us through our first couple of months at home. Any questions we had, she was able to answer. As nervous first-time parents, we had so many questions, but she made us feel much more comfortable knowing that she was super experienced, and it showed! From the beginning, she was there to support us, even before our baby was born. We were able to text her all of our questions, and she replied quickly. She came in and helped us organize our nursery and set up all our gadgets. When our baby came home, she was there the first night, supporting us through breastfeeding and our long nights. She even helped tidy up the house and made me a little midnight snack because Iwas up all night. Breanna is such a joy to have, and I would recommend her to any family looking for support.

Dedicated Birth and Postpartum Doula, while pursing a nursing degree during my labor and delivery clinical I knew this was my passion to provide compassionate support throughout the birthing process and postpartum. As a certified doula, I bring a wealth of 15 years experience and expertise to every birth and postpartum service, fostering a nurturing and informed environment for birthing individuals and their partners. My journey into birth work began with a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of childbirth and the importance of holistic support during this profound life event. With an open mind for hospital settings and pain relief when needed. I have supported numerous families through various birthing experiences, including hospital births and home births. Allowing couples to have a safe and informative space to relax and have their birth be just as intimate as they'd like. Natural hormones are key into relaxing mom! Music, sound and lighting plays a part in allowing that intimacy to play out. This sets the tone for a calm postpartum recovery onto healing and adaptation to a new routine. My approach to doula care is centered around empathy, education, and advocacy. I have worked seven years as an investigator for medical malpractice and seen what goes wrong when women aren’t allowed informed consent. I am committed to ensuring that each client feels empowered, informed, and respected as they navigate the journey of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. My goal is to provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support, tailoring my services to meet the unique needs and preferences of each individual and family whether it be medicated or unmedicated. All women deserve the right to make informed decisions based on there individual needs. Also being a certified life coach for five years has gifted me with the skills to help families navigate through postpartum, new routines/added or changed. But most importantly to give clients the support they need to not feel alone or overwhelmed during these times. Normalizing chaos and not feeling okay, but empowering them to know that they can and will get through these times and they will adjust. While also providing them with lactation support whatever that may be for each families preference. With a warm and nurturing presence, coupled with a steadfast commitment to my clients, I strive to create a positive and empowering birth and postpartum experience that will be cherished for a lifetime. Whether providing emotional support during labor, advocating for informed decision-making, or offering guidance and or resources in the postpartum period, teaching newborn care and up keeping self care. I am forever honored to be a part of each family's unique journey into parenthood. I take great pride in working with woman giving them the care and support they need to trust their mind, body and soul.

She is an excellent advocate who is generous with her time and knowledge, ensuring that both the birthing and support parent were in a good position for the birth experience - before, during, and after. As first-time expecting parents there was a lot to learn even with regard to terminology, medical situations, and the outcomes that we wanted to achieve. Alisha's confidence makes you confident. She's great under pressure and remained communicative throughout our delivery. You can't control how things will unfold on the big day. While we had our best-case scenario planned out, things evolve and we were pressed to navigate changing circumstances when my water broke without any other signs of active labor. This put us on a countdown clock yet we remained calm, opted into certain interventions on our timeline, and were able to achieve the vaginal delivery as intended. We credit this to our preparation and real-time guidance with Alisha. Lastly, Alisha just has a great personality and treats you as a real friend. She genuinely cares about you as more than just clients and we looked forward to our time spent with her. We strongly recommend working with Alisha for any of the services that she offers!
