With the birth of my niece in 2022, I began learning about the world of birth support and decided to take the jump into birth work at the start of 2025. In March, I trained as a doula with DONA at San Diego County Midwives, and knew I wanted to start my work in the volunteer space. Since May 2025, I have volunteered with UCSD's Hearts & Hands doula program and have logged over 150 hours on the Labor & Delivery floor as a badged member of the team, giving me invaluable hands-on experience for all types of births. I have continued my education in multiple areas including: -Peanut ball training with San Diego County Midwives -Spinning Babies® workshop -WIC's lactation seminar -Observed a 5-week Childbirth/Hypnobirthing course with The Birth Education Center. -I am trained in HIPAA protocols, hospital best practices, and am CPR certified. I now have plans to take what I have learned in my volunteer births and further education and start accepting private clients in 2026! Outside of the birth room I enjoy reading, hosting dinner parties, eating Wayfarer pastries at the park, puttering around the garden, and spending time with my husband and family. The military brought me here to San Diego but birth work is keeping me here. I’ve wanted to deliver babies my entire life and I knew that was the path I needed to go down to lead me to the road I want to drive on. My end goal is midwifery. My name is McKenna and I’m a postpartum doula and a newborn care specialist dedicated to helping families feel confident, supported, and cared for during one of the most transformative times in life. I’ve worked with children since I was 12 as a babysitter, infant teacher, and nanny before having two kids of my own. My journey into birth and newborn care began from a place of deep empathy and purpose. I’ve always been fascinated by the strength, vulnerability, and beauty of parenthood.

I am blessed to live in sunny San Diego, CA. I do call myself a midwest gal though, and grew up in various states. I graduated High School in Illinois and went to college in Indiana. My husband and I moved to San Diego in 2013 and never looked back. Our son was born in 2023, so we are currently navigating toddler-hood and all the joys that come with it. I also love dogs, and we lost our very beloved Pug in 2026. I have worked in corporate HR for 10+ years and believe the career transition to being a postpartum doula is exactly what the universe had planned for me. Outside of work (which no longer feels like "work") I love to be outside as much as possible - at parks, beaches, going on long walks, and finding any family friendly events going on around the city. I also love to cook and experiment with new recipes. My family loves to try new restaurants and travel. In a nutshell, we like to do anything and everything that feels like an adventure. I am also fluent in Spanish and hope to be a resource to bilingual families!
