I understand that birth and reproductive experiences can be beautiful, challenging, unpredictable, and deeply personal. I strive to meet each client where they are, offering compassionate care that centers their needs rather than my own expectations. My Future in Midwifery My journey in birth work is only the beginning. Since starting as a doula in 2022, I have continued to grow my passion for maternal and reproductive care. One of my long-term goals is to become a midwife so I can further expand my knowledge, skills, and ability to serve families throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I am here to support your journey, honor your choices, and remind you that your voice matters. First, as a sister and a friend, then as a mother myself, I have seen the medical system sew fear and doubt into women regarding their body's capability to achieve what it was intended to. The truth is, childbirth is both natural and miraculous. I believe that every woman has the right to decide what interventions she wants to use in childbirth without the use of fear, but instead through true informed consent. I continue learning daily how best to help each new mama, both through lived experiences and through research, and will gladly share my knowledge. I also believe that every woman should be supported through the most vulnerable and powerful moment of her life. In a system that pushes women away from their natural state, I am here to be that calming support and fierce advocate.

I am SO grateful to Barbara! She was a trusted guide and resource from the moment she joined my birth team. Barbara advocated for me throughout my hospital birth labor and I ended up with the best birth experience. Barbara's encouragement and her hands-on assistance during delivery gave me the birth experience I had truly prayed for. Barbara provided me and husband confidence and peace of mind throughout my pregnancy and during labor. Barbara literally held me up during the pushing phase! She provided security to me in her advocacy. Barbara empowered me throughout my pregnancy and birth. To have Barbara with you during your pregnancy and birth is truly a gift. I am forever grateful for Barbara. If I am blessed with another pregnancy, I will be asking Barbara to be my doula again. I am full of gratitude for everything Barbara did for me and my family.

Hi! My name is Shannon Sappington and I am the owner of Serving Hands Doula! I have been a doula since 2016, providing personalized support and care to my clients during their pregnancy, labor and birth! Before becoming a certified Labor Doula, I achieved a Masters degree in Counseling as well as a teaching certificate in elementary education. My educational background and experiences enhance my abilities as a labor doula. I have a nurturing and compassionate spirt and I believe that the best tools I bring into every birth are my heart, my hands and my voice. My goals are to equip you to be ready mentally, physically and emotionally, and to serve you during the journey of your pregnancy, labor and the birth of your baby. Besides being a doula, I love doing life with my husband, our four kids and three dogs! We are an adoptive family - so my husband and I have 3 biological children and 1 through adoption. We love Jesus, laughing, cracking jokes, eating Chinese food, going on trips and also relaxing at home watching a movie. I try to not take life for granted and enjoy the big and the small moments of everyday life. God is my life breath and He is woven all throughout my story.

Shannon is amazing!!!! We loved having her as our doula. She helped both my husband and I through my pregnancy and my very long and hard labor. I set out to have a home birth, but ended up transferring to the hospital and she was there every step of the way. She helped me with my very hard back labor and was just the support my husband and I needed. We will definitely be hiring her again with our next baby!!

I am so happy you are here! My name is Laurynn. I am a birthkeeper and student midwife serving families in DFW and surrounding areas. I offer antenatal support through various services including birth and postpartum doula, birth planning, lactation support, and placenta encapsulation. I am happily married to my other half, Colin, and have a daughter, Olive, born at Natural Beginnings Birth Center in 2023 as well as a son, Finn, born at home this past September. The birth of my daughter and son have opened doors in my soul that I didn’t know existed, and in response, I have developed an extreme passion for helping women and their families feel empowered, safe, and nurtured during birth. Whether you have had previous birth trauma, you want to achieve your first homebirth, or you want to birth in the hospital, my goal is to have you leaving your experience feeling powerful, happy, accomplished, and that you had a voice that was heard and respected by your provider. Laurynn was great! She made my husband and I feel so much better about the birthing process in the weeks leading up to my labor. She was so knowledgeable and we learned so much from her. I opted for a hospital birth and really wanted someone there to advocate for me, and Laurynn did not let us down. At first my husband did not understand why I wanted a doula, but afterwards, he couldn't stop raving about how it was the best money we spent. It was great for him to have someone there supporting both him and I through the process, and it made it a lot less stressful for him. I credit Laurynn to my smooth labor and delivery, and was so grateful for her. She made me feel as comfortable as possible during my labor, and fought for us to try more natural interventions rather than opting for the hospital interventions, and her bag of tricks worked wonders. I'm so grateful for her, and would definitely recommend her to any expecting mothers! I can't wait to use her next time around for my home birth!

Nusrat Jahan Moon

Nusrat Jahan Moon prefers to introduce herself as Amatullah. Amatullah is a mother of two beautiful children. After a traumatic birth experience with her first child, she felt an overwhelming desire to become a doula. Then, by Allah's infinite mercy, she used the knowledge gained from her AMANI Birth training during the birth of her second child to experience a natural delivery. She has expressed her desire to gain more knowledge about natural childbirth in the future. She is also a writer and is the author of Brishtyveja Bikel. She worked with Sorobor as a writer for about two years. Her writings have been published in all of Roudromoyee's books. Moreover, her work has been published by Somokalin Prokason, Muhammad Publication, and several other publishing houses. She has also edited a book called Sukher Natai. According to her, motherhood is a difficult path, and she wants to be a companion of mothers on this journey. Working with expectant mothers is an area of her passion. "[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed – and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving." (Al-Quran, Surah Al-Mulk 67:2) Birth is a miracle, as Allah (SWT) creates a human being in the womb and gives it life. Every human is different in color, height, personality, and spirituality. The more she thinks about this miracle, the more she feels an urge to be a part of it. Becoming a Birth Doula has become her passion day by day. Working with the mothers who are carrying a living example of Allah's existence is a huge blessing for her. She hopes it will keep reminding her of her true goal in this life: that we all have to return to Him, the one who created all of us.

Hi, I’m Melanie Powell—certified doula, childbirth educator, author of From Fear to First Cry, and the founder of both Little Flower Birth Services and the non-profit Under His Wings Collective. As a mother myself, I know firsthand that bringing a child into the world is one of the most profound, transformative journeys you will ever take. But I also know it can bring up deep questions, past fears, and medical anxieties. That is why my life’s work is dedicated to walking beside women and their partners, ensuring you never have to navigate the medical landscape alone. Through Little Flower Birth Services, my practice is rooted in three core pillars: Advocacy to help your partner step into their role as your protector, Sanctuary to guard your peace with a protective "Baby Bubble," and Autonomy to honor your God-given intuition through a trauma-informed framework. Whether I'm teaching evidence-based physiological birth classes, coaching partners in our signature advocacy workshops, or offering quiet, steadfast support in the delivery room, my goal is to transform your anxieties into your greatest strengths. Beyond my private practice, my heart for community led me to establish Under His Wings Collective—a non-profit initiative dedicated to expanding access to sliding-scale and free childbirth education, alongside trauma-informed virtual doula support (such as our Virtual Bloom Package) for Medicaid-eligible, low-income, and high-anxiety mothers who deserve dedicated care regardless of circumstance. When I’m not supporting families across the DFW Metroplex, leading virtual education cohorts, or advocating through the collective, you can usually find me baking something nourishing for loved ones or cherishing quiet moments with my daughter. You deserve to enter your birth room feeling strong, informed, and deeply supported. I would be honored to walk this sacred journey with you.

What made us choose Melanie as our birth doula for our first birth experience was the fact that she was Catholic and she offered a lot in her birth package. She was extremely helpful all throughout my pregnancy, especially on the day of my delivery. She helped us map out a birth plan and she did a great job educating us. During my labor, Melanie coached me through exercises she prepped us with to deal with the contractions. After I got my epidural, I was still experiencing pain on my right side. Melanie spent hours lightly shaking the area to get my daughter to move. It really helped me deal with the pain. She also helped the nurse with getting my daughter to turn face down to prepare for birth. Melanie offered me the comfort and support I needed in the last hours of my labor. Because of her support, my husband was able to get some extra sleep so he could be present with me and available post-birth. I would strongly recommend Melanie as a doula.
