Hello! I stumbled headfirst into the birth world through a non birth related podcast. After hearing the host’s birth story I was awestruck. I needed to know more. The more I learned, the more I felt called to this work. I firmly believe that everyone has the right to reproductive justice, to birth the way they want to, and to be able to define their birth experience their way. Choosing your birth team is one of the most important choices you can make during your pregnancy. I completed my formal birth doula training with Childbirth International in 2024 but have been practicing since early 2023. What sets me apart is my background as an engineer. This background when combined with my birth doula training gives me the unique ability to take in information (the cues you are giving, your words and actions, your progression, your outlook on the situation, and the care providers words and actions) and move forward with a plan for the next few moments, and then reassess and move forward once again.

I believe in nurturing young and growing families with grace, resilience, and intentional movement. When our time is up you won’t realize I’m gone because you’ve been empowered to take on sustainable postpartum practices and you put self care first. I believe everyone deserves a doula!

For the past few years, I’ve been home with my daughter Meadow, watching her grow into this bright, fierce little human who’s taught me more about life and strength than I ever expected. She’s the reason I stepped into this work. I want her to see that it’s never too late to follow your passion—and that women can lead, heal, and build something powerful, even in the messiest seasons of life. My path to becoming a doula didn’t start with a dream. I found this work through my own experiences of birth, trauma, and healing. Meadow was born six weeks early and spent time in the NICU. Our journey included feeding challenges, a g-tube, postpartum depression, and a long road to bonding. It wasn’t easy, but it cracked me open. It made me realize how much support matters. Not just medically, but emotionally, spiritually, and human to human. That’s why I show up the way I do—as a birth, postpartum, and sibling doula who’s committed to creating a space where people feel safe, respected, and never alone. I’ve taken a range of trainings, mentorships, and classes, but most of what I bring to this work comes from lived experience and deep listening. I entered into the childbirth field for two main reasons. First, I want to empower women through the natural methods of childbirth. I remember the feelings of strength and control that I encountered when I had my three children at home in the presence of midwives. Now, I want to pass this on to other expectant mothers. With my first pregnancy, I was alone and thought about placing my baby with adoptive parents. Then one day, along comes the most incredible woman who ended up changing my life. She was a midwife who said that she would take me on as a client for the fee of $50 (for supplies). Little did I know that she had hoped that a home birth would convince me to keep my baby. Well, her plan was a success and she has given me a gift I have yet to repay. My second reason for getting into the birthing field was because I want to eradicate the general public’s misconceptions about pregnancy and the birthing process. A woman’s pregnant uterus should not be treated as a tumorous growth to be controlled by medicine, but rather a natural event that women have been participating for many years before doctors. In most cases, birth can be accomplished safely and satisfactorily without intervention, such as drugs and surgery. The need for patience must be practiced in the presence of a laboring woman. I believe that each labor and birth is a unique and miraculous experience. I also believe that there is more than one good way to have a baby and that parents should have the proper tools available for effective informed consent and informed refusal. have been a doula since 2007 and have had the opportunity to attend a variety of births including medicated, non-medicated, multiples, VBAC’s and home-births. I use many tools to help a woman cope in labor including massage, pressure points, movement, aromatherapy and I am trained in using a TENS unit and have units that I let my clients use for their labor. I love teaching some of the tricks I have learned over the years to the dad and helping him feel a part of the birth. My goal is for the mom and dad to feel like “WE did it” as they hold their sweet baby. I feel passionate about a woman’s power and ability to have the kind of birth experience she longs for. My name is Carisa Niemyer and I work as a doula and doula trainer in Colorado SpringsI found my way into doula work through the birth of my first child. My story didn't go exactly how I wanted and my baby had her own story of how she wanted to be born, as these babes often do. But after my delivery I felt so empowered and supported and loved my story. Much of the reason this was true was because of the support of a doula. That experience led me into the world of birth work and I have now been a doula for 18 years, working in both birth and postpartum, as well as training new doulas at Birthingway College of Midwifery in Portland OR as well as in my own training organization here in Colorado Springs.
