Congratulations! My name is Alyssa. I've been a doula since 2013. I became a doula shortly after the birth of my first born when I experienced a tremendous lack of support. I felt alone and isolated and overwhelmed with the contradicting information online. After connecting with other moms within the community, I learned that I wasn't an outlier and this experience was far too common. I studied with Penny Lyon and Ann Pollack in 2013 and became certified with DONA shortly after. Later in 2013, I began working at a local birth center as a midwife assistant to further my medical training. It reaffirmed that I was meant to be a doula serving families within my community. As a certified yoga instructor since 2006, I started integrating Prenatal yoga and doula work. It truly felt like the most comprehensive way to support families by bringing them affective and age old tools to cope with labor pains. Since 2013, I've proudly served over 1000 families. I'm the co-founder of In Joy Birth, a doula training company/agency located in Orlando, Florida. In 2023, I moved my family to the greater Denver area to be close to the mountains where I am currently serving families. I'm passionate about continuing education and am currently working on finishing my Pediatric Sleep Consulting certification. I'm also BLS/CPR certified, and Carrot approved. I work with only one family at a time so that I can provide individualized care to each one of my families.

Kristen’s passion for all things pregnancy, birth and parenthood began in 2008 when she had her first baby. Since then, she has become a mother of two, a yoga teacher, health coach, full spectrum doula, and lactation consultant. Kristen has a diverse range of experience having attended over 100 births in many different hospitals since completing her doula training with Birth Matters in 2020. Hello! I stumbled headfirst into the birth world through a non birth related podcast. After hearing the host’s birth story I was awestruck. I needed to know more. The more I learned, the more I felt called to this work. I firmly believe that everyone has the right to reproductive justice, to birth the way they want to, and to be able to define their birth experience their way. Choosing your birth team is one of the most important choices you can make during your pregnancy. I completed my formal birth doula training with Childbirth International in 2024 but have been practicing since early 2023. What sets me apart is my background as an engineer. This background when combined with my birth doula training gives me the unique ability to take in information (the cues you are giving, your words and actions, your progression, your outlook on the situation, and the care providers words and actions) and move forward with a plan for the next few moments, and then reassess and move forward once again.

I studied evolutionary biology as a young adult and was planning a career shift into healthcare at the time that I became pregnant with my first child. Giving birth changed my path in life – and not just because it made me a mother. I realized how much expectant parents stand to gain from continuous, informed support during childbirth (research supports this). I knew then that my background in evolutionary biology and health sciences had come together just so that I could support pregnant, laboring, and postpartum parents. In addition to my certification as a Doula, I am also a Clinical Nutritionist, Lactation Educator, and Aromatherapist. Additionally, I have a specialty in pain management and have a strong interest in understanding the scientific background of pain relief. I am trained to operate a labor TENS unit in addition to other non-invasive pain reduction strategies. I will be there just for you, no one else. I have been interested in becoming a doula for a long time. Since high school, I thought about becoming a midwife, however my life did not go in that direction. I met my husband, Dennis, in 2011. He was in the military, and we moved around often. After having kids of my own in 2020, I knew I wanted to be a birth worker. I, personally, had a hard time adjusting to becoming a mom and I would love to support anyone going through this journey. I did not have a doula for either of my births, but I could have used one. My first birth experience was fast and I thought I knew what to expect, I did not! It was a shock, and I needed someone who knew what was happening and what was a normal part of labor. I needed someone to tell me to relax and exhale. My second birth was also fast, but my breathing was under control and it made the biggest difference. I will be there with you through it all and we’ll exhale, together.
