Prior to becoming an IBCLC, I was a breastfeeding mother of two. I struggled to breastfeed my first born and I was so determined to make it work! I found it very hard to find lactation support, so I did a lot of late night/ breastfeeding session google searching for answers! It was not pretty! The advice online was not helpful as everyone had a different experience! I finally found a few county IBCLCs who helped me, and the rest was history. I breastfed my first for 23 months and my second for over 3 years. I quickly knew a few months after my first was born that I wanted to be the support to other families struggling to breastfeed their babies. I am an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant, parent educator, and mother of four with personal experience breastfeeding my four children through a variety of challenges for about six years. My nursing experience includes two years in NICU. I'm not currently licensed in California as a registered nurse. As a new mother, I was so thankful to have in-home support. This is the same model I have developed my lactation services on. Early and often works well for establishing your milk supply. It also works well to provide support to new parents as they adjust to life with a new baby. Hi! My name is Sara, I am a Registered Nurse (RN-BSN) and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I am also a mother of two and a military spouse. When breastfeeding both of my children I was not prepared for all of the issues that could occur! Milk supply concerns, pumping when returning to work, clogged ducts, fussy baby, the list goes on! I have years of experience in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as well as the Newborn Nursery. Being a nurse and working with babies is where I am meant to be! While working in the NICU I found my passion for helping breastfeeding mothers. So I decided to study to become a Lactation Consultant. This allowed me to provide the best care for mothers and babies struggling with lactation issues. Azure is a Southern California native with a deep commitment to supporting women and families through pregnancy and birth. Motivated by her belief in the blessing of every new life, she began her academic journey at UCLA with plans to become an OB/GYN. After graduation, she volunteered in labor and delivery units and worked in medical offices, where she gained valuable experience while also recognizing gaps in care — particularly for Black women. That realization led her to become a doula, where she supported her very first client through a successful vaginal birth after three cesareans. This experience deepened her commitment to advocacy and highlighted the need for care models that offer more informed and personalized support. Seeking to expand her knowledge and scope of care, Azure pursued midwifery. She is currently a third year student midwife at the National Midwifery Institute. She is committed to providing compassionate, informed, and culturally grounded care, and views birth as a transformative experience that deserves respect, intention, and support. Azure is especially passionate about honoring ancestral traditions in birth work, studying botanical medicine, and improving maternal health outcomes within her community. Outside of her studies, she mentors foster youth through Promises2Kids’ Guardian Scholars program. She also enjoys spending time with family, recharging at the beach, reading, and hiking.

Brianna, originally from Las Vegas, NV, embarked on her educational journey towards becoming a midwife when she moved to Santa Barbara in 2015. There she studied and earned her BS in Psychology. In 2017, she attended a DONA doula training, a pivotal step in her commitment to supporting women during labor. As a student, Brianna volunteered at a local maternity home, offering prenatal nutrition classes and doula services. In 2019, she expanded her impact by volunteering with AmeriCorps as a Community Health Worker in Southern Utah, addressing social determinants of health. This experience underscored the strength of community and the importance of continuity of care. After completing her 12-month term, Brianna moved to San Diego to attend Midwifery school and commenced her clinical placement with San Diego Midwife in 2020. As a midwife, Brianna blends her foundation in psychology with specialized midwifery training, emphasizing a compassionate and empathetic approach. Her dedication extends to providing holistic care throughout the prenatal, labor, and postpartum phases, emphasizing both the physical and emotional well-being of mothers.
