As a certified lactation counselor, supporting women in achieving their breastfeeding goals is my focus, and I want all new mothers to feel the support they need, both mentally and physically. I am a 25 year old mother of two, and my journey into becoming a doula is deeply rooted in my own birth experiences. I’ve had both a hospital birth and two unassisted, natural home births, which gave me a well-rounded perspective on how powerful and capable women are when they feel supported, safe, and heard. During my first birth in a hospital setting, I found myself having to advocate strongly for my own choices, which opened my eyes to how essential it is for mothers to have someone in their corner. What led me to this work is my belief that mothers deserve to be at the center of their birth experience. While the focus often shifts to the baby, a mother’s physical, emotional, and mental well being is just as important especially during and after delivery. Birth environments, particularly hospitals, can sometimes feel chaotic or overwhelming, but with the right support and advocacy, they can also be calm, respectful, and empowering spaces. I understand that while many women desire home births, not all have that option, especially in higher risk situations. As a doula, my role is to help create a peaceful, supportive atmosphere wherever birth takes place, while ensuring that each mother’s voice is heard, respected, and honored throughout her journey.
