I experienced my first birth at 12 years old and knew from then on that I wanted to be involved in birth work and babies. After reading Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth during my first pregnancy, I was introduced to the term “doula” and knew that I wanted to be one. With the birth of my second child and having a doula, I KNEW that this was my calling. I’m Katie Galvin, Postpartum Doula and Certified Functional Diagnostic Nutritional Practitioner. After my own experience with “postpartum anxiety & depression,” (which was really undiagnosed postpartum thyroiditis) I decided to become a functional practitioner to help other moms navigate common postpartum hormonal changes using a holistic, body-mind-spirit approach to pregnancy and postpartum. Conventional medicine often fails new moms by dismissing their concerns or offering pills as the only solutions to common (but not normal) symptoms.
