I had an amazing experience with this doula service. As a first-time parent, my nerves were all over the place, but they were kind, patient, and very informative throughout the entire process. When my birth plan had to change last minute, they were incredibly accommodating and supportive. I truly appreciated their care and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a doula.

Jenny Schuster Popular: among the most-viewed doulas in Maryland, last 60 days

I’m a birth and postpartum doula serving families throughout the Baltimore, DC, Southern Pennsylvania, and Southern Maryland areas. My work is rooted in one core belief: when a mother is deeply supported, nurtured, and cared for, she is better able to care for her baby and step into motherhood with confidence and grace. I specialize in supporting mothers through some of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons of life — including high-risk pregnancies, birth trauma, postpartum mood disorders, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), chronic illness, pregnancy after loss, and complex postpartum recovery. My background in psychiatric rehabilitation counseling allows me to bring a unique understanding of emotional health, nervous system support, and compassionate care into the birth world. My approach is deeply intuitive, trauma-informed, and mother-centered. I believe birth is not just a medical event — it is a life-changing human experience that deserves respect, advocacy, emotional safety, and individualized support. Whether I’m supporting a laboring mother through transition, helping a postpartum mother heal after a cesarean, assisting with feeding challenges, or simply making sure a family feels seen and cared for, my goal is always the same: to “mother the mother.” I offer both birth and postpartum doula services, including overnight and daytime support, prenatal education, emotional support, recovery guidance, feeding support, and practical care for growing families. I am especially passionate about helping women trust themselves again after difficult experiences and creating spaces where mothers feel safe, empowered, and genuinely held. Beyond my work with clients, I’m passionate about maternal mental health advocacy, improving the birth experience for women, and creating honest conversations around motherhood, healing, and the realities of postpartum life. My work combines evidence-based education with warmth, intuition, humor, and deep compassion. At the heart of everything I do is the belief that mothers deserve quality care. There truly aren’t enough words to express how grateful we are for Heather. Hiring her was the best decision we made during pregnancy, and I can’t imagine our birth or postpartum journey without her. I was absolutely terrified of giving birth, but from the moment Heather came into our lives, I felt less alone. When labor began, the greatest comfort I had was knowing she was by my side. I felt completely safe with her. She was my calm, my advocate, and my anchor, helping me through every moment with such compassion and confidence. Her support didn’t end after birth. She continued to care for our family (we call her the "Baby Whisperer" with good reason) during postpartum with the same warmth and encouragement, making us feel supported as we adjusted to life with our daughter. Heather has an incredible gift for making you feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. Because of her, what I feared most became one of the most empowering and beautiful experiences of my life. I will always be grateful for the role she played in bringing our daughter into the world.

My goal is to educate, empower, and support mothers, their partners, and even their families, so you feel safe, heard, and confident. As an experienced certified Birth Doula serving families since 2015, I offer personalized support for any gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, age, etc. I am also a certified placenta encapsulation specialist offering placenta services for your postpartum needs.

Second time client of Tias! I first used Tia's services 2 years ago where I was successful with my first medicated VBAC birth. As soon as I received my positive pregnancy test with my third baby, I KNEW Tia was going to be hired again! Even my husband, who was first against hiring a doula, was quick to ask if I already contacted Tia when I announced to him our 3rd pregnancy :) Tia did it again! She was the support I knew I needed for this 3rd birth and with her encouragement and belief in me, I was able to have an unmedicated 2VBAC! According to my husband, this is our last baby haha so I wanted to take advantage of Tia's placenta print she offers. I am so happy I decided on that because Tia made us the most beautiful placenta print which incorporated all three of our children. If another baby were to magically happen for me in the future, Tia will OF COURSE be hired again, without a question! And anyone I know in need of support for their births in the future, I will without a doubt recommend Tia. Thank you TIA!!!

Nicole Iriarte

Hi! I’m Nicole and here’s a bit about my story. I became a Birth and Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist because I truly believe parents deserve to feel supported, not overwhelmed, during pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum stage. This season is tender, emotional, and life-changing and my role is to be by your side with compassion, knowledge, and reassurance. I meet families exactly where they are—honoring their choices, their culture, and their intuition. While providing evidence-based guidance and calm, grounded support, and respect for each family’s values, and understanding that there is no “right” way to give birth or parent a newborn. Whether you’re preparing for labor, navigating the early postpartum weeks, or adjusting to life with a new baby, my goal is to create a calm, non-judgmental space where YOU feel confident in your choices and supported every step of the way. My philosophy is centered on nurturing both baby and parent. Whether I’m offering hands-on newborn care, emotional support during birth, my goal is for you to feel seen, heard, and never alone. I focus on promoting rest, recovery, and bonding while helping families establish gentle routines that feel realistic and sustainable. I view my role as both a guide and a steady presence. I believe when parents feel supported, they thrive — and that belief guides every part of the care I provide.

My husband and I are incredibly grateful for Nicole’s support throughout my pregnancy and during our baby’s birth. Her calm presence and thoughtful guidance were invaluable, especially when we needed to make important decisions at the hospital for both me and our baby. She helped us feel informed, grounded, and confident every step of the way. My husband also felt truly supported and empowered in his role, which meant so much to us. We wholeheartedly recommend her for both prenatal and birth support.

Jenn Carlson

Hey there! I'm Jenn Carlson, your friendly neighborhood doula! I call Springfield, VA home, where I live with my husband, Eddie—a rock musician who moonlights as a film critic. (Or maybe it’s the other way around? Either way, there's a lot of passionate reviews in my house!). I spent over two decades as an IT pro and a stage manager before diving headfirst into my most exciting production: raising two amazing daughters. Both of their births were high-drama—think less "rom-com" and more "medical thriller." But those experiences sparked a fire in me to help other women feel empowered during labor, and thus began my journey as a doula. Since 2013, I've been lucky enough to attend over 700 births and help nearly 300 new moms recover through the magical art of placenta encapsulation (yes, it’s a thing and it’s awesome). I'm a CBI and DONA Trained, Madriella Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, a Childbirth Educator, an AHA Infant and Pediatric First Aid and CPR instructor, a certified Reiki practitioner, and a placenta encapsulation specialist. Whew, that’s a mouthful! My goal? To be whatever my clients need. Natural-minded or more into the medical approach, I’m here to make sure you have the birth experience you want—with all the options on the table. My definition of a successful birth? One where the mom feels respected, empowered, and ready to write her own birth story, no matter how her baby arrives. Because education is key, I teach breastfeeding, infant CPR, newborn care, and childbirth classes. I've got experience with Bradley and Hypnobirthing techniques, and I bring along my trusty rebozo and TENS unit to help families through labor. I also have special training to support moms who have experienced trauma or loss, and a big, soft spot for high-risk mothers like me who need to know they have options. So whether you’re looking for a bit of guidance, a lot of support, or just someone to laugh with while you figure it all out—I’m here for you!

Jenn possesses a unique blend of deep, evidence-based knowledge and genuine empathy, which was evident in every interaction. She took the time to understand my preferences, fears, and hopes, and tailored her support to fit my birth needs. Whether it was providing invaluable information quickly over text, offering comforting words during labor, or simply being a supportive presence throughout my birth experience, Jenn was there every step of the way. Jenn’s skill in managing both physical and emotional aspects of labor was remarkable. We felt incredibly empowered with her was by our side. She ensured that my experience was as positive and respectful as possible. Her ability to read the room, adapt to changing circumstances, and offer practical solutions made all the difference. While my birth didn’t go how I had envisioned due to unforeseen complications, I felt incredibly supported and advocated for throughout the process. At every significant decision point, we discussed and weighed the options. Jenn made sure to inform me on what is or would happen and why. In the end, I believe the decisions I made during labor were the most well-informed and safest options for the baby and me. I feel positively about my birth experience because of Jenn who was a light and guide during the process. If it weren’t for her being my doula, I’m sure I would have had a traumatic labor in which I would have continued to regret my choice in provider and hospital. We are profoundly grateful for Jenn’s commitment to our well-being throughout the pregnancy and labor experience.

Lacie was a great help during my first couple months postpartum. She has a calming and nurturing presence. She gave great tips for sleep and soothing techniques. Our daughter has reflux, and Lacie was always attentive to her needs, keeping her upright after feedings and contact napping with her when needed to help ease her symptoms. She took wonderful care of our daughter and made sure my husband and I were able to get the rest and support we needed. Thank you Lacie!
