Nikita Wise

Ellicott City, Maryland

Nikita Wise

10 years of experience

Nikita Wise is a Traditional Apprentice Midwife serving families throughout the Baltimore–Washington region with a deep commitment to culturally centered, respectful, and holistic maternity care. Widely recognized for her dedication to Black and minority families, Nikita has spent over a decade supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with compassion, clinical rigor, and ancestral reverence. Born and raised in Baltimore City, Nikita later relocated to suburban Maryland at age 19, where her personal journey into motherhood profoundly shaped her professional calling. Becoming a mother at 16 with the steadfast support of her married parents, she developed an early passion for maternal health and a determination to serve women during some of life’s most transformative moments. This experience inspired her pursuit of a career in labor and delivery and ultimately midwifery. In 2013, Nikita began her formal clinical training by earning her Nursing Assistant Certification at the Gandhi School in Pikesville, Maryland. She then advanced her medical training at Brown’s Career Institute, where she became both a Patient Care Technician and Certified Phlebotomist. That same year, she entered the field of obstetrics as an OB Surgical Technician at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., completing the hospital’s in-house Surgical Technology Program and receiving extensive on-the-job training in high-acuity maternity care. Over the next five years, Nikita worked across multiple labor and delivery units throughout the DMV, including Sibley Memorial Hospital, The George Washington University Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Providence Hospital, StoneSprings Hospital Center, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. During this time, she gained firsthand experience in operative births, maternal emergencies, and interdisciplinary obstetric care—knowledge that continues to inform her midwifery practice today. In 2019, recognizing the limitations of hospital-based care for families seeking autonomy and holistic support, Nikita transitioned from surgical technology to birthwork as a doula and student midwife. That same year, she founded DMV Birth Doulas, LLC, a full-spectrum doula practice dedicated to empowering families through personalized, evidence-informed, and culturally affirming support. In 2020, Nikita launched The Black Doula Training, LLC, an accessible, low-cost educational program designed to increase diversity in the birthwork profession and prepare aspiring doulas for professional practice. Many graduates of the program have gone on to serve families in community settings and within DMV Birth Doulas’ professional network. In December 2024, Nikita successfully fulfilled the hands-on training and skills checklist requirements ine PEP process as an Apprentice Midwife including observing 10 births as a doula, assisting in 20 births as an assistant under licensed midwives, and attending 30 births as a primary student under direct supervision.  Throughout her training, she worked under the mentorship and clinical supervision of respected midwives across the Mid-Atlantic region, including: Bayla Berkowitz, CNM (Pikesville, MD) Monika Karaosman, CPM (Berlin, MD) Elder Midwife Maureen McIver, CPM (Pennsylvania) Ryann Bernard, CPM, JD (Alexandria, VA) These mentors evaluated her clinical skills, birth outcomes, and professional competencies, affirming her readiness to practice midwifery in community and out-of-hospital settings. Today, Nikita is the owner of The House of Gloria Fertility & Birth, a sacred, boutique midwifery and fertility practice in Ellicott City, Maryland. Her work blends traditional midwifery principles with modern clinical standards, offering families holistic fertility care, homebirth midwifery, and comprehensive postpartum support. She is particularly known for her dedication to informed consent, physiologic birth, and culturally grounded care that honors Black maternal health and ancestral birth traditions. Nikita remains deeply invested in education, mentorship, and advocacy for maternal health equity. Through her clinical practice, training programs, and community outreach, she continues to expand access to respectful, culturally aligned birth care for families across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Darshal Smith

10 years of experience

Hi there! My name is Darshal but you can call me Dee! I am a mom and experienced doula. I’m originally from Mississippi, and have a beautiful, blossoming teenage daughter! My journey into motherhood and the knowledge and empowerment gained through childbirth has led me to become a doula. I have a passion for helping women achieve a positive and satisfying childbirth experience. My goal as a doula is to help educate, advocate, offer support and comfort for all birthing persons during their fertility, pregnancy along with labor, ultimately leading to a positive birth and wellness experience.

Recent review

Dee the Doula (Darshal) is simply phenomenal! From the moment we connected, Dee brought such warmth, professionalism, and genuine care to every conversation. She is not only a certified birth & postpartum doula but also a student midwife with an incredible depth of knowledge about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Her approach is the perfect balance of evidence-based guidance and heartfelt emotional support. She listened to my needs, respected my preferences, and made me feel empowered every step of the way. Whether it was helping me create a birth plan, offering comfort measures during labor, or ensuring I had the resources I needed at home postpartum, Dee went above and beyond. Even during times when she was navigating her own personal life challenges and may not have been quite as sharp for a few moments as she’s usually 110% of the time, she still showed up fully for me and my family. We gave her space to process because what good would she be to us if she wasn’t replenished? That mutual respect only strengthened our bond, and I can truly call her family and for that, I’m deeply grateful. It’s clear that this is more than just a job for her, it’s her calling. She treats her clients like family and creates a safe, uplifting environment for both parents and baby. If you’re looking for someone who will advocate for you, educate you, and hold space for you through one of the most important times in your life, I can’t recommend Dee the Doula enough! As we grow our family, she will ALWAYS be our go to doula! I can’t wait to see her in action one day as a midwife!

Are you feeling excited to meet your little one, but anxious about labor and unsure what to expect? Do you find yourself spending hours getting lost down internet rabbit holes researching pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, but still lack confidence as your due date approaches? Trust me, I’ve been there! My journey to becoming a birth doula was born from my own experience with childbirth. In 2022, while living abroad, I gave birth to my son far from family and without much of a support system. I found myself scared and overwhelmed by the intensity of labor, longing for someone to guide and reassure me. That experience opened my eyes to the vital role emotional and physical support plays in childbirth, and it’s why I’m here—to offer the same kind of guidance and reassurance I longed for during my labor so you can enter those fragile early postpartum days feeling calm, empowered, and supported. I share a life filled with joy in Northern Virginia with my husband and our two children, who are the center of my heart and universe. Family is everything to me, and it’s because of them that I’m so passionate about helping others navigate the journey of birth. My life has taken me to many places, including three years spent living in Germany and eight months deployed to Afghanistan. These experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying calm and grounded, especially in times of uncertainty – and I bring these lessons into my work as a doula. As your doula, my goal is to help you feel confident, empowered, and supported every step of the way. Whether you’re preparing for a hospital birth, home birth, or birth center, I will provide personalized, nurturing support that aligns with your goals. I’m here to help you navigate the unknowns and trust in your body’s ability to bring your baby into the world with strength and love. Motherhood is an indescribable gift, and I look forward to working together to nurture a birth experience that honors you, your choices, and your incredible journey.

From the moment we met Heather, she felt like a member of our family. She was instrumental in helping us achieve a beautiful labor and birth, advocating for my preferences, managing pain, and guiding me through various positions to facilitate progress in labor. In the weeks leading up to the birth, Heather dedicated several hours to preparing my partner and me. She encouraged us to consider different scenarios, practiced Spinning Babies techniques with us, and discussed my labor preferences in detail. Thanks to her calming expertise, we approached the experience without anxiety, confident in Heather’s support. When I faced a complication after delivery, Heather remained by our side throughout. She guided my partner in supporting me and advocated to keep our baby with me at all times—something I believe greatly contributed to the positive outcome of our situation. After we were discharged, Heather visited us at home and provided invaluable practical support that we hadn’t received at the hospital. She helped with swaddling, bottle feeding, soothing a fussy baby, and even advised us on some essential overnight Amazon purchases. During this time, Heather also assisted us in navigating and processing the trauma we experienced, validating our complex feelings and helping us appreciate the beauty of our birth. Heather will always be a cherished part of our family and our story. We cannot recommend her services enough.

Medina W

I wear many titles with pride — Wife, Mother, Lactation Specialist, Licensed Massage therapist (LIC#R03337), Student Midwife, and Author. But at the heart of it all, I’m simply someone who is devoted to women’s health, healing, and empowerment. My passion for nurturing others comes from a long line of generous souls — my mother, my grandparents, whose kindness and selflessness shaped who I am today. My grandfather devoted his life to serving his community, and my grandmother has always been the quiet backbone of our family, giving from the heart without hesitation. Their example taught me that true generosity is showing up for others with love and presence, and that principle runs through every part of my work. I’m a proud graduate of the Holistic Massage Training Institute, where I began my journey into bodywork and holistic healing. Over the years, I’ve specialized in prenatal, fertility, infant, and postpartum massage, helping women release physical tension and rediscover balance in their bodies. I also help many clients find relief from chronic neck and lower back pain, drawing on more than four years of therapeutic experience. In 2020, I founded a private practice specializing in pregnancy and postpartum manual therapy. Over the years of practice, I have helped over 300+ women relieve pain, improve mobility, and prepare for birth. My educational journey has included studies at Anne Arundel Community College and Western Governors University, and midwifery studies through the National College of Midwifery while apprenticing under several licensed midwives. I have attended over 50+ births in a mix of hospitals, home births, and birthing centers. My calling toward birth work was born of my own motherhood journey. My first childbirth experience showed me the power of a supportive birth team, but my second reminded me how deeply a lack of support can impact a woman. That moment became the turning point that led me to dedicate my life to women’s wellness — ensuring that every woman feels seen, supported, and cared for during one of life’s most transformative experiences. In 2022, I was honored to receive the Good Heart Award from The Shades of Blue Project during Black Maternal Health Week, recognizing my commitment to uplifting and caring for families in the birthing community. My work has also been featured in publications such as Motherly, Beauty Boost Baltimore, and Voyage Baltimore. Every client I serve, every birth I attend, and every family I serve is an extension of that same legacy of care that was passed down from my family. I’m here to create spaces where women feel safe, nurtured, and empowered to trust their bodies — because generosity, to me, is the act of helping others remember their own strength.

Having Medina by my side was the best decision. Doing our pre labor meetings a month before definitely made me more comfortable with Medina and my husband also was more comfortable. We both loved having Medina as part of our journey. Two months postpartum and I absolutely I am so blessed that Medina was there. Medina truly and genuinely cared for my baby and myself. I can’t even put it to words how supportive Medina was. I loved her quick responses even at 2am! Her guidance. I’m so glad she’s a doula and I hope she becomes a midwife.and I will be recommending Her to everyone I know. I Love her and misss her!!!!!!

I’m a birth and postpartum doula serving families throughout the Baltimore, DC, Southern Pennsylvania, and Southern Maryland areas. My work is rooted in one core belief: when a mother is deeply supported, nurtured, and cared for, she is better able to care for her baby and step into motherhood with confidence and grace. I specialize in supporting mothers through some of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons of life — including high-risk pregnancies, birth trauma, postpartum mood disorders, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), chronic illness, pregnancy after loss, and complex postpartum recovery. My background in psychiatric rehabilitation counseling allows me to bring a unique understanding of emotional health, nervous system support, and compassionate care into the birth world. My approach is deeply intuitive, trauma-informed, and mother-centered. I believe birth is not just a medical event — it is a life-changing human experience that deserves respect, advocacy, emotional safety, and individualized support. Whether I’m supporting a laboring mother through transition, helping a postpartum mother heal after a cesarean, assisting with feeding challenges, or simply making sure a family feels seen and cared for, my goal is always the same: to “mother the mother.” I offer both birth and postpartum doula services, including overnight and daytime support, prenatal education, emotional support, recovery guidance, feeding support, and practical care for growing families. I am especially passionate about helping women trust themselves again after difficult experiences and creating spaces where mothers feel safe, empowered, and genuinely held. Beyond my work with clients, I’m passionate about maternal mental health advocacy, improving the birth experience for women, and creating honest conversations around motherhood, healing, and the realities of postpartum life. My work combines evidence-based education with warmth, intuition, humor, and deep compassion. At the heart of everything I do is the belief that mothers deserve quality care. I had the privilege of witnessing Tania from Birthing Boutique in action during the birth of my friend's baby at INOVA hospital, and the experience was nothing short of amazing! Throughout the labor, Tania demonstrated an impressive blend of expertise and empathy. She was an invaluable resource, not only for my friend but for the entire birthing team, seamlessly collaborating with the medical staff to ensure a safe and empowering experience. Her ability to create a serene atmosphere amidst the intensity of labor was truly remarkable. What stood out most about Tania was her unwavering support of my friend's choices. She actively listened and ensured that the birthing experience aligned with my friend's preferences, even in the face of unforeseen challenges. In addition, she anticipated needs before they arose and was a pillar of strength during tough moments. Her holistic approach, which included massages, words of affirmation, and breathing techniques, were next level! I would highly reccomend her services!

Chaya Eaddy

8 years of experience

I’m Chaya, a DMV native and proud mama to three beautiful children. Since beginning my student midwifery journey in 2021, I’ve come to truly appreciate the profound importance of ‘intrinsic’ birth. My journey started in nursing, with the aim of becoming a labor and delivery nurse. I earned my CNA license, NRP/CPR certification, and full-spectrum doula certification in 2019. In 2020, I began apprenticing as a student and birth assistant for a local home birth midwife. Running Nova Birth & Wellness and working part-time as a clinical tech in a local hospital’s L&D unit has further fueled my passion. I dream of becoming a CNM and opening my own practice to offer families the comfort of home births, just as I experienced with my own children. As a placenta encapsulation specialist, birth photographer, and perinatal advocate, my heart has always been set on supporting mothers during this sacred time. From a young age, I knew I wanted to guide mothers through their journey into motherhood, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I believe every person deserves an informed and autonomous birth, no matter the path they choose. Advocacy is at the core of doula work, and it’s what drives me to continue in this field. Over the past few years, I’ve had the honor of attending over 200 births as a doula, student midwife, and tech. While I specialize in natural intrinsic birth, I support all birth choices and help mothers find their own path. The bonds I form with my clients often turn into close, loving friendships. I prioritize mutual trust and safety, ensuring you can confide in and rely on me during the most sacred times.

I cannot put into words how grateful I am for the support, care, and love that Chaya provided during my pregnancy and birth. From the very first conversation, I felt heard, empowered, and truly cared for. My doula was a calming presence, always reassuring me and my partner and helping us confidently navigate every step. When labor started, she was by my side, offering comfort measures, encouragement, and unwavering support. Her knowledge and experience made all the difference—I truly don’t know how we would have done it without her! She helped me advocate for myself and reminded me that my voice mattered in my birth journey. Thanks to her, I felt strong, capable, and completely supported. Our birth was a beautiful experience, and I owe so much of that to her presence. If you are looking for a doula who is compassionate, knowledgeable, and wholeheartedly invested in your birth experience, look no further. Forever grateful,

Hi, I’m Taylor — a birth photographer, L&D and postpartum nurse, and currently completing my birth doula certification through a deep love for supporting women through one of the most transformative seasons of their lives. My approach to birth work is rooted in compassion, advocacy, education, and genuine connection. I believe every family deserves to feel seen, heard, respected, and supported - no matter what kind of birth they hope for. Whether your vision includes an unmedicated birth, epidural, induction, cesarean, home birth, or simply “please help me get through this,” I’m here without judgment and with full support for your choices. Working in labor and delivery has given me firsthand experience supporting women through both beautiful and incredibly challenging moments. I’ve seen how important calm support, reassurance, and informed care can be during labor, birth, and postpartum recovery. My nursing background allows me to bring both emotional and practical support into the space while helping families feel safe, empowered, and cared for. Alongside doula support, I also specialize in motherhood and birth photography because preserving these moments matters deeply to me. Birth is raw, emotional, powerful, and fleeting all at once - and I feel incredibly honored to document and support families through it. Outside of birth work, I’m a mom myself, which has only deepened my passion for caring for women in this season of life. I understand how overwhelming, vulnerable, magical, and identity-shifting pregnancy and motherhood can feel, and I strive to create a space where clients feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are. My goal as your doula is simple: to help you feel supported, informed, grounded, and never alone throughout your journey into parenthood.

If you have the opportunity to photograph one of the most memorable moments of your life, you absolutely should. Before meeting Taylor, I didn’t fully understand what birth photography or doula support would even look like. But from our first conversation, it was obvious she is an incredible listener, calming presence, and someone who genuinely cares about creating an unforgettable experience. One of our biggest concerns was comfort during such a vulnerable moment, and Taylor was so intentional about respecting that. Somehow she captured so many beautiful moments without ever feeling intrusive. Her labor & delivery experience made such a difference. She knew exactly what was happening, comforted us during moments of uncertainty, and brought such a peaceful energy into the room. The combination of her talent, knowledge, and passion is truly special. Looking back now, it honestly feels like pure magic that everyone was exactly where they were meant to be in that room that day.
