With over 20 years of experience supporting families across six countries, I bring a deep understanding of the diverse ways cultures nurture parent-child relationships. My journey into birth work began as a Health Community Worker, advocating for immigrant Latino families in New York. Later, while working at a mental health agency in Connecticut, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that nurturing, consistent, and responsive caregiving has on a child’s development. This realization fueled my passion for family support and led me to become a Birth and Postpartum Doula, ensuring families receive guidance and care from the very start of their parenting journey. Three years ago, I earned my certification in Perinatal Mental Health, allowing me to further support families through the emotional complexities of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Fluent in both Spanish and English, I am dedicated to creating a compassionate and culturally informed space for every family I serve.

Martha brought a level of joy, reassurance and experience to our daughters birth we didn’t even know we needed. Every step of the way through my pregnancy she checked in on me and provided the guidance I needed. Our birth changed pretty rapidly but Martha’s positivity and expertise made the entire experience more enjoyable. We were able to really focus on the birth while she helped guide those around us on decisions we made beforehand. Pregnancy doesn’t just stop after birth, the emotional and physical work continues after you’re home as well. Martha is there by your side through it all! She helped change my postpartum experience immensely, I cannot thank her enough. I will forever recommend The Knitting Doula!

Hiring Doula Odessa was one of the best decisions we made. She helped me create a birth plan and shared evidence-based resources that made me feel informed and confident throughout pregnancy. As my due date approached, she was always available and supportive. When winter weather threatened her travel, she arranged a backup doula just in case, but thankfully it wasn’t needed—Odessa drove through difficult conditions to be there early that morning and stayed with us through labor and even after my C-section. She advocated for the birth experience I hoped for while also supporting my husband and me when doctors said an emergency C-section was necessary. Although my birth didn’t go as planned, I felt heard, cared for, and supported by Doula Odessa. She gave me confidence and strength during a difficult experience, and I’m so grateful to have had her by my side.

Although I didn’t know it then, my journey towards becoming a doula began nearly 15 years ago with the birth of my first child. My labor and birth experience was far from empowering and while I was overjoyed to have my son, I always wished things had gone differently- that I had been listened to when I tried to assert myself, that I had been given alternative pain management options when I said I didn’t want an epidural, that the nurses and doctors had explained what they were doing and given me choices before just going ahead and doing it. I always wished that I had felt more in control in that delivery room. Flash forward 14 years to the birth of my second child, and things went exactly as I could have hoped for largely in part due to the team of amazing people I chose to surround myself with. I switched to a Midwife group that took the time to listen to me and honor all of my wishes; I chose a birthing center where I knew I would have plenty of options, but still have the safety and security of a hospital and NICU nearby should something go wrong; and I hired my doula! She made me feel safe, secure, listened to, and protected. She was there as my advocate (though I never had to use her as such because my Midwife was so amazing), she was there as a shoulder to lean on, and she made sure my wife and I had all that we needed during my labor and the birth of my daughter. Between kiddo number one and kiddo number two, a lot happened- 14 years worth of happenings! During that time in-between, I owned and operated Bloom Yoga Fitness Studios in Southington, CT. I taught thousands of hours of yoga- hundreds of them to pregnant clients. And I also became a Licensed Massage Therapist certified in Pregnancy Massage. My personal birth experiences, my decade of yoga teaching, my time as a massage therapist all led me to where I am today. I am now a Birth Doula working with clients in Hartford, New Haven and Middlesex counties. I still teach yoga and perform massage and you’ll see many of my doula offerings include yoga, meditation, and massage. I am passionate about birthing people making informed choices that feel right for them and it’s an honor to standby my clients as they take the amazing journey that is labor and birth.

I'll start by saying I interviewed at least a half dozen doulas and Bethany was the only one I felt a true connection with. She was so easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and comforting just from our first conversation. My goal was an unmedicated hospital birth, and she helped me feel so prepared and capable during our journey from the home visits to the hospital and all the texts in between. She's a plethora of knowledge and resources! She was awesome about checking in and always keeping an open line of communication and encouraging questions (which I had a lot of random ones along the way as a first time mom). My hospital birth couldn't have gone better - she was there before the doc rooting me on and advocating on my behalf throughout the prices. Our post partum visit was the therapy session I needed. I am so thankful for Bethany and her services. She does incredible work and was meant for her role! Vivian, Jason and I thank you!!

Ruby White

Ruby White has been a certified full spectrum doula for 8 years. She completed the in-person portion of her certification in Brooklyn, NY with Doula Trainings International (DTI). Serving birthing people and their partners as they go through the major life transition of becoming parents has been her joy since 2018. Her goal is for parents to feel empowered in the entirety of their experience – to be able to ask for the support they desire and to receive it while trusting their body’s ability and the physiological process of birth. Ruby’s strength as a doula is her empathetic, holistic, and inclusive approach, as well as her versatility. She has served families in all types of birth scenarios – hospital, birth center, homebirth, with medication and without. As a doula, her deepest wish is that all patients receive comprehensive and compassionate maternal healthcare, as well as hands on comfort measures and a nourishing presence in their birthing and postpartum spaces. Whether she is providing massage and hip squeezes in labor or assisting with the first latch of breastfeeding - she is honored to be present for every step of the journey. She will always advocate for your birthing preferences to be respected and is committed to showing up with a kind ear, an open heart, and caring hands to serve new families and their babies. Above all, she will hold space for your birth to feel beautiful, safe, intimate, and sacred, always with a dash of humor!
