Hiring Kristen as our doula was the best thing I did for my pregnancy and birth. She made herself available throughout the final few months of my pregnancy via countless texts and phone calls prepared to answer all the wild questions I had about any symptoms or feelings. When I finally went into labor, none of us knew I’d be in it for a whopping 60 hours before my son was in my arms. I could go on and on about all the things she did to help get my son in an optimal position (there were many) but at the end of the day, she was just there for me. There for me when I thought I’d be having an unmedicated birth center birth. There for me when we had to have a c-section instead. And there for me after while I processed it all. She is amazing and I’d hire her again and again and again.

Hello. I'm Julie Sanders (she/her), a birth and postpartum doula who has supported families on their journey into parenthood for nearly a decade through Awakening Mother Holistic Birth and Wellness. I am also a yoga and meditation teacher and sound healing practitioner passionate about the journey into and through motherhood. I specialize in birth preparation, focusing on inner work, communication, education, bodywork, and balancing for an efficient birth and optimal fetal positioning, including dynamic movement, to support a natural labor and birth process. My postpartum care focuses on rejuvenating the mind, body, and spirit using healing foods and herbs, vibrational medicine, breath work, mindfulness, and daily self-care practices; honoring rest, and family bonding. I personalize my offerings for a deeply "centered" approach to preparing for the journey ahead, inviting exploration into one's deep ancestral wisdom and intuitive insight into and through this transformative time. When not actively supporting aspiring, pregnant, and new parents or deepening my practice, you can find me with my hands in the earth, gardening in my backyard, or spending time with her family and our mischievous beagle named Moon. I would love to connect and learn more about your path and explore ways I may fully support you during this very special time in your life.

Service: Labor and Birth Doula Context: Father, 2nd Child, 1st at-home birth Despite our preparations, our first birth taught us that we can always know, prepare, and expect more. We met Julie in our doula interviews early in our preparations, and with our first home-birth, we knew we needed someone with the knowledge to build our trust, the confidence to direct when needed, and the serenity to alleviate our anxieties. Julie brought every one of those to the table, and more! During our first birth, I couldn't help but feel like a third-wheel, understanding key parts of the birth, but serving mostly as an observer, with the occasional comforting words. In preparation for our 2nd, Julie offered both live Q&As, and preparatory, informative, and engaging classes, which helped prepare not only my wife, but myself in both what to expect and how to engage with each part of the birth. Rather than only observing, or waiting for direction, I became an active participant, predicting and understanding my wife's needs, while also being able to adapt as needed. As labor's frequently do, ours started late in the night, and with a quick call, Julie assessed the situation and determined to come over to help, even in the early stages. As a doula, she helped guide us into active labor, recognizing when we hit hurdles, and confidently and calmly discussed alternative positions and practices. Serving not only as doula, she frequently provided updates that would help our midwife determine how far along we were, and stayed by Laura's side through delivery! In the interest of time, I'll end with an appreciation of Julie's ability to frequently bridge the gap when all the participants became a little too single-minded; Julie would swoop in, suggesting breaks, and even cooking up some delicious meals! Even afterwards, Julie visited and brought a smorgasbord of home-cooked foods, taking the weight off of running a household, and letting my wife, my children, and myself, take time to simply be with each other. Thank you so much, Julie, for not only being what my wife needed, but helping me to be the same! P.S. For the Mother's perspective, Laura's review should post soon!

Hi! I'm Lisa! I'm a Christian Doula and Childbirth Educator in SE Aurora, CO. Right now I'm offering birth support in all birth settings (as long as you have a midwife or OB), and Childbirth Education in my home or your home! My faith is the foundation for my life, and most of my clients find and choose me because I stand strong in Biblical truth and moral values. I am a mom of 5, and wife to a husband who is a systems engineer, so I have great perspective as a mother and can relate well to new dads that might be more analytical and logic-minded. Music, art, reading, and all things creative are my hobbies, and I love to spend time in nature. I have experience supporting families with every kind of birth plan, from natural home birth, to hospital epidural birth, to planned cesarean. My favorite kind of birth to support is YOURS. Lisa provided me support and guidance while I was pregnant with my first child. Working with Lisa was a huge boost to my physical, emotional, and mental well-being. As a first-time mom, I had a lot of concerns and anxiety. I appreciated being able to ask Lisa questions and hear about her experiences as a doula. It gave me an idea of what I could expect at the hospital where I was planning to deliver. She assisted me in formulating a Birth Plan. (Ultimately, we didn’t end up using this, but the process of writing it made me consider some important issues such as whether I wanted a medicated or unmedicated birth.) The biggest benefit from working with Lisa was learning how to help my body during pregnancy. I am a very go-go-go type of person and as a result, I was twisting my back in all sorts of bad ways. Lisa assisted me in doing pregnancy-safe stretches to help ease the discomfort and eventually referred me to a local, trusted chiropractor who did absolute WONDERS to relieve the pain I was experiencing. I am thankful for Lisa’s service and have fond memories of being her client.

¡Hola! My name is Karen and I am a fierce advocate for reproductive justice. I love Sistersong’s definition of reproductive justice, which is, “the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.” Therefore, I seek to support people within their journey, honoring their bodily autonomy and rights, which is why it is important for me to support birthing people, those seeking to release their pregnancy, and parents wanting to create safe and nurturing environments. I am a Spanish-speaking birth and postpartum doula who is passionate about making sure the birthing person is feeling empowered, liberated, and heard throughout their pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum. I am a medicaid-approved birth doula. I am also an abortion companion and will provide you with unbiased, nonjudgemental support and unconditional love. I believe wholeheartedly that your body knows how and what to do, and that you know YOUR body the best, so I will support you in whatever YOU feel is best for you. I know you have a voice and I value that, so I will advocate WITH you. Birth and the transition to parenthood, as well as the postpartum after birth or an abortion (spontaneous or medical) is a mental, physical, and spiritual shift, so I approach my work with clients in a holistic and trauma-informed way. To be a part of your journey is an honor and a privilege and I will treat it as such when you let me hear your story, enter your home, meet your family, and be a part of a transformational moment in your life.

Eloise was worth her weight in gold during a difficult birth that didn't go to plan. My hope was to labor at home as long as possible and to have an unmedicated water birth. However, I unfortunately developed preeclampsia with severe features, which necessitated an emergency induction at 37 weeks and being confined to the bed on a magnesium drip for the duration of the multi-day labor. I called in Eloise for support during a very low point in my labor, when my epidural had failed and dilation had not progressed for hours. Eloise immediately created a peaceful environment with candles, essential oils, and gentle music, and employed massage, heat therapy, and a TENS unit to promote relaxation. In the first three hours after Eloise's arrival, my dilation suddenly advanced from five to over nine centimeters, a fact which I absolutely attribute to the deep sense of safety she provided. When it came time to deliver my son, I was struggling with feeling weak and depleted after a long, overwhelming labor. Eloise calmly encouraged me through each and every contraction during three hours of pushing. I truly believe that there's no way I would have been able to fulfill my goal of having a vaginal birth if not for her steady presence and her guidance on how to make my pushing more effective. In the weeks following the birth, I ended up suffering from a painful and persistent uterine infection. I had not purchased a postpartum package from Eloise, but she continued to check in with me nonetheless, a testament to the genuine care she has for her clients. Having Eloise as my doula was an extraordinary silver lining of a challenging birth experience. My husband and I are so grateful for Eloise and would unreservedly recommend her to anyone.

Hi, I’m Katie—an IBCLC dedicated to supporting families with compassionate, evidence-based care. I received my lactation training through Metropolitan State University of Denver and have spent the past eight years working as both a birth and postpartum doula, supporting more than 100 families through some of the most tender and transformative moments of their lives. I come to lactation work with a foundation in Nutrition, holding a bachelor’s degree from UNC.  I have three kiddos of my own—each with their own unique breastfeeding journey. These experiences deepen my understanding that every family’s path is different, and every goal is valid. I truly love being welcomed into people’s homes and consider the postpartum period a sacred space. My approach is grounded in respect, collaboration, and meeting families exactly where they are—whether they’re navigating challenges, exploring their feeding options, or simply seeking reassurance. When I’m not working with families, you can find me snowboarding, traveling, reading, cooking, and hanging out with my little crew, hopefully outside, having an adventure!

I am so glad that I found Katie! My partner and I initially hired her as a doula for the birth of our first baby, and while the birth did not go how we hoped (instead of a full term vaginal birth, she came a month early and was delivered via C-section), Katie was so helpful and supportive leading up to the birth, and came to the hospital to support us immediately after delivery as well, which helped immensely in feeling calmer during such a shocking experience. I had many challenges with breastfeeding, due to the pre-term birth, C-section delivery, and a tongue tie, so I decided to work with Katie as a lactation consultant postpartum as well. I am now at 6 months of breastfeeding and I honestly don't know if I would have made it this far without Katie's support. In addition to coming over for weighted feeds and help with positions and advice on topics ranging from breastfeeding in public to baby-wearing, Katie was always available to provide support when I was having breastfeeding-related meltdowns. She is so warm and understanding, always providing validation, gentle suggestions, and working with me in my specific circumstances to figure out how to balance my needs in the moment with my long-term breastfeeding goals. I'm so grateful to Katie and cannot recommend her enough!

My name is Jessica and I am honored to be considered as your Doula for this monumental time. My work as a Doula is focused on supporting my clients by leading with love and inclusivity, with the belief that we all have various life experiences, and regardless of those, every client of mine deserves to be loved, heard, included, and empowered to stand for their beliefs in and outside of the labor room with a constant, and reliable support. I have a true passion for obtaining and sharing evidence-based information to work with my clients to make a plan for their ideal labor and delivery as well as the postpartum period. Additionally, I equip my clients through prenatal visits and ongoing communication with information about laboring and birthing positions as well as different types of comfort measures and anything else they may need to feel comfortable. I have a strong belief that every birth experience is unique and special, and understand the tenderness of the moment for mom, baby and family. I have always been called to help and care for others. In my life I have been fortunate to experience and learn about pregnancy, labor and postpartum through others experiences before my own experience in birthing my son just under two years ago. Going through the uncertainty, intense emotions and challenges of pregnancy, birth and parenthood has brought me back to my passion of giving back to my community as a Birth Doula. Outside of being a Doula, I love to spend time with my family, traveling, eating good food and exercising outside. I cannot wait to get to know you more! Congrats on your growing family!

Jessica was incredible and absolutely invaluable in my labor/birth experience. She was there for me during my pregnancy and provided many helpful resources to prepare for birth and if she didn't have a recommendation off-hand she would do research & ask other doulas for recommendations which was much appreciated because as a first time mom new to the area I trusted her research and recommendations for things such as local chiropractors and birth classes. Then during my actual labor she was there for me the whole 53 hours. She had prepared a backup doula on-call who was with me for the beginning of my labor and then once Jessica was back from her vacation she immediately came to the hospital to switch out with her backup, showing how much she truly cared about us because she could've just allowed her backup to stay with me during my labor but instead she came and took over! She provided wonderful emotional support and fantastic hands-on physical support. She was also an incredible liaison between us and the staff; advocating for my birth plan/preferences, asking to give me time to make decisions, and giving me trusted counsel based on the suggestions of the hospital staff. I appreciated so much how in tune she was with me and my birth journey, she knew my wishes but also was flexible and pivoted based on the everchanging situations. She also was a great support for my husband and helped guide him through my birth as well. I would definitely recommend Jenssica to anyone in need of a doula and I truly believe she helped make my birth experience as positive as possible even though it was far from my ideal experience due to unforeseen circumstances. So thankful for her genuine care and support!

Karee is the kind of doula who will go the extra mile to support you. I found her just two weeks before I gave birth, and she immediately made sure everything was ready for a safe and positive birth experience. Karee provided gentle, skilled massages before, during, and after birth, which made a world of difference in my comfort and recovery. She also included yoni steaming at no extra cost, such a generous and nurturing touch. I felt supported physically, mentally and emotionally by her. Leading up to birth, she helped me feel prepared and confident. During labor, she stayed right by my side, encouraging me and ensuring I was coping well. Karee held space for all of it, the pain, the overwhelming changes, and the flood of feelings that come with becoming a mother. She truly recognized what I was going through and provide words of wisdom. I have said enough so Karee is the one.

Hello! My name is Laura Rayford and I am a DONA certified birth doula in the Bay Area. I am passionate about guiding birthing people with nurturing and empowering support; working together towards your ideal birthing experience. I have completed two birth doula trainings. One through Hospital Friendly Doulas (which has allowed me to work as a volunteer doula at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, CA) and the other with Sierra Birth Institute (a training approved by DONA). Both provided me with invaluable information and numerous tools which allow me to confidently support birthing people and their families.Prior to working as a doula, I worked as a nanny for 15+ years. I have always been drawn to working closely with families and giving children the best possible care. For me, this naturally led me to doula work, helping new little people be brought into the world by their capable, brave and extraordinary birthing parent. I am excited and passionate about this work and deeply appreciate your considering inviting me into such a personal and powerful chapter of your life.

Working with our Cass was hands-down the best decision we made for our birth journey. From our very first meeting, her calm, reassuring presence completely eased our anxieties and helped us feel empowered. During the most intense moments of labor, she was an incredible coach and a steady rock for both my husband and me. She advocated beautifully for our birth plan, ensuring our choices were respected by the medical staff while guiding us through positions, induction processes, and pain relief with so much knowledge and gentleness. We truly felt like we had an expert and a dear friend by our side the entire time. Kendall was an absolute god-send during our pregnancy and birth journey. As first time parents, we felt SO lost starting our pregnancy journey. The lack of dedicated support in the system was so apparent right away, and we began our search to find the compassion , emotional support and care we needed , esp for me as a first time mom! Our first discussion with Kendall made us feel so comfortable and like there was such a personal connection , Kendall was so knowledgeable and so committed to ensuring that I would have the support I needed thru every step of my pregnancy and post-partum. She was someone that I immediately knew I could trust and be comfortable around and want her there with me every step of the way, including during my delivery. Kendall provided support and assistance throughout my pregnancy beyond what I could have ever imagined. As someone who had an extremely difficult pregnancy with several hospitalizations, Kendall was there for our family every step of the way, helping us find new care when things with our existing provider weren’t going well, being by our side with several hospital stays and going out on a limb to be a vocal advocate for what was always best for me and our baby. Kendall went above and beyond after so many unexpected turns in our birth story, spent dedicated time visiting our baby in the NiCU at a moments notice when we delivered prematurely in an emergency situation, and was constantly there as a sounding board, resource , and 24-7 support system for our entire family. We have never felt so comfortable being open and honest with someone as we were with Kendall!! She is so passionate about her work, her families and the moms in her care, and it shows!! Whether we had a perfect pregnancy or one filled with the challenges and scares our family faced, We can’t imagine doing it or going through the journey without Kendall. You never know what resources you may need until you need them, and Kendall was there with us every step of the way. She will forever be a part of our family and our story, and we will be forever grateful for her. -The Schafferer’s: Lindsey , Marco and Marcel (our 35 week angel babe!)
