Laine Ferguson

Nelson, British Columbia

Laine Ferguson

2 years of experience

Hi, I’m Laine (she/her)! I am a full-spectrum doula, plant lover, and mom of two incredible little humans. My own journey - welcoming my first child in 2018, experiencing pregnancy loss, and later giving birth to my second in 2023 - deeply shaped my path and passion for birth work. Both of my births were supported by wonderful doulas, and their steady presence inspired me to offer the same kind of care to others. As your doula, I provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to help you feel nurtured, empowered, prepared, and cared for - no matter how or where you choose to give birth. I love working with new parents and growing families, and I hold space for the wide range of emotions and transformations that come with pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My approach blends compassionate emotional and physical support with practical tools like childbirth education and baby wearing guidance. I’m also passionate about birth photography and love capturing the beauty and power of labour, birth, and those magical first moments together. Through my practice, I offer in-person Labour & Birth Doula support, Childbirth Education, Birth Photography, and Birth Equipment Rentals for families in Nelson, BC and across the West Kootenays. I also support families from afar with Virtual Prenatal & Childbirth Education, 1:1 Virtual Birth Planning, and options that make doula care more accessible when local support just isn’t available, or financially do-able. When I’m not supporting families, you can usually find me tending to my plants, playing up at Whitewater, or keeping up with life alongside my two kiddos. Certifications and Trainings: Maternal Support Practitioner – Full Spectrum Doula Training (Bebo Mia) Essence of Birth Photography (Birth Becomes You) Childbirth Educator Training (Bebo Mia) Advanced VBAC Doula Certification (The VBAC Link) First Aid & CPR-C/AED (The Lifesaving Society) IPAC Training (Provincial Infection Control Network) I’m also an approved provider under BC’s Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program, meaning my services may be eligible at low-cost or no-cost. The Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program (DAFGP) is offered by the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, Provincial Health Services Authority, and the BC Ministry of Health. The goal of the program is to increase healthy birth outcomes for Indigenous families by removing the cost barrier to accessing doula services.

Santaya Stander

Langley, British Columbia

Santaya Stander

4 years of experience

Hey my name is Santaya, I am a Birth doula.I work as a pregnancy coach while also being a personal trainer for delivery. I work with families to help them achieve their goals for birth. This means i meet with patients (and families) twice during pregnancy to go over needs and goals for clients birth plans. During my clients pregnancy i visit them every trimester to do a check up. In these visits i go over what to expect within that trimester and answer any of the patients questions. I also track the pregnancy in a book that i give to the patient after delivery. I offer business hours on call support to my clients. This means i will be available from 9 am-5pm for physical support, emotional support and informational support via text or call. I help assist/coach my clients with delivery at the hospital however long that may be.I don't have to do shift change. I am present during labor till a few hours after.I help support clients that decide on natural birth, epidural or C section. Postpartum clients usually feel they no longer need men after a couple hours. Most times this is natural for the family unit to adjust and adapt to normal everyday life. However, I also offer packages for postpartum newborn aftercare where I can assist with breastfeeding and overnight care of the newborn. My passion in life is the celebration of mothers. Working with women and helping women build their families THIER way. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you feel you are in need of a doula please reach out. I offer 1hr consultations in person for $25 dollars.Or free 15 minute consultation over the phone. You can contact me via email @ taya.prodoula@gmail.com. Please contact me with any questions about services or to book consultation

Kailee McDonald

Victoria, British Columbia

Kailee McDonald

I have lived in the West Shore area of Victoria, BC (specifically Metchosin) for my entire life. My whole family is here and I love that I can spend so much time with them. I am extremely family-oriented and spend the majority of my free time with them. I live with my partner and our two young children in a beautiful home only a few minutes away from Victoria General Hospital (convenient!). I consider myself to be an introvert and love all things quiet! Reading, writing, painting, watching movies or my favourite binge-able TV shows (talk to me about 'New Girl' and you'll have a friend for life! #Nick&JessForever). Also a big-time Disney adult (no shame). I love all things Disney, especially DISNEYLAND. I can (and will) go on about it for hours. Don't get me started if you want me to stop at some point. I have always (literally always. Since I was a young child.) been fascinated by pregnancy and the birth experience. While other students dreaded the infamous "sex talk", I counted down the days. While other students were mortified during family planning class to watch a woman give birth, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. How incredible. How miraculous. Still, I never gave much thought to how I could work it into my own life, apart from "I really want to be a mom some day. I can't wait to experience this for myself.". I graduated from Belmont Senior Secondary in 2013 and have done a variety of jobs since then. Retail, fast food, grocery stores, even a call centre (for a week- that was not for me). In 2016, I started the Community, Family, and Child Studies program at Camosun College and discovered my love for helping people. The field I was happiest in was in childcare. I obtained my ECEA in 2018 and have worked in various daycares, as a private in-home nanny, and at before and after school programs ever since. In 2023, I obtained my ECE certificate from Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute and went on to be the room lead at a 3-5 preschool, and then onto becoming a part of the management team at a brand new trauma-informed Indigenous childcare centre. I was part of the grand opening there and was so fortunate to receive some incredible learning about various Indigenous cultures, languages, history, etc. as well as trauma-informed training. However, since becoming a mom, I have realized just how challenging a job in childcare is when you have young kids at home. It's A LOT. I decided I needed a change in careers and I thought, how cool would it be if I could turn my passion, values, and interests into a career? After I accompanied one of my dear friends during the birth of her first child, I knew exactly what that career should be. That experience was so eye-opening in so many ways. First of all- what a beautiful and miraculous moment! I could watch a mother meet her new baby for the first time a million times and never get tired of it. Second, I saw first-hand what was missing in the hospital during her experience- and that was personalized and compassionate care, unwavering emotional support, and someone to make sure she was fully aware of what was happening to her during those scary moments. After that, I immediately started looking into Doula courses and fell in love with it. This is what I was meant to do. This is my calling. The ability to provide support and care to mothers, fathers, parents, and families in these life-changing moments is an honour that is not lost on me. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I love and to love what I do. Thank you so much for allowing me into your homes, your lives, and your sacred space. And for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me. I can't wait to get to know you too!
