Nia Speight is trained through Madriella Doula Network and Virginia State-Certified, offering doula support services to birthing, postpartum, and bereaved parents. She’s worked within the family service profession for nine years, offering traditional yet personalized support. She also dedicates time advising families who need healthcare referrals, sibling assistance, and pregnancy loss support ⋆。°✩ As a mother who chose to home-birth, Nia fully understands the physical, emotional, and informational support parents need, whether they plan to have a medicated or unmedicated birth — BOTH choices require the same level of mindfulness and decision-making. She believes mothers should prepare for the personal experience of childbirth by discovering ways to feel their absolute best, however that may look for them. Nia enjoys helping mothers prepare for their birth journey by narrowing down on what is most important to them, helping them find their voice, addressing the nervous system and physical body, preparing for postpartum recovery, and more. During postpartum, she offers hands-on support to ensure parents are well-nourished, comfortable, and rested. Mothers can expect traditional care such as meal preparation or body recovery support. Guidance surrounding feeding, newborn care, and/or healthcare. Her hope is to provide care that supports families not only through the present moment but also prepares them for the days, decisions, and transitions ahead.

Nia was an absolute pleasure to work with. My partner and I felt extremely comfortable with her through the whole pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum process. She was my advocate when I needed the support while in labor (something very important to me) and was beyond informative. She was an absolute delight to work with. I couldn't recommend her enough

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Doula Every Mom Deserves — Kim Is Truly a Godsend I honestly don’t know how I could have navigated this postpartum journey without my doula, Kim. From the moment she entered this experience with me, she has been so much more than a doula—she has been a source of comfort, reassurance, encouragement, and genuine support for me and my entire family. Kim showed up for me at the hospital during labor and stayed right there with me and my husband. She was attentive, present, supportive, and incredibly calm during a time when emotions were high and there were so many things happening at once. She never made me feel like I was bothering her or asking too much. She simply showed up and supported me exactly where I was. And then, after I gave birth, Kim didn’t just disappear. She was waiting at my home to welcome us back. That moment meant so much to me. Postpartum can be such a vulnerable and emotional transition, and having someone there who genuinely cared about how I was doing made a tremendous difference. What I love most about Kim is that she understands that supporting the mother means supporting the whole family. She interacts with my other children, she communicates with my husband, and she makes herself part of our family dynamic in such a natural and respectful way. She doesn’t just focus on the baby—she recognizes that Mom needs care too, and when Mom is cared for, the entire household benefits. Each week after birth, Kim gave me four hours a day, two days a week, and those hours helped me more than I can put into words. Those four hours gave me an opportunity to breathe, regroup, rest, handle things I needed to handle, and simply have someone there who understood that postpartum recovery isn't just physical—it can be emotional, mental, and overwhelming too. I also want to be honest about something because I think it speaks volumes about the kind of person Kim is. There was a period after birth when I was really dysregulated. I was overwhelmed, emotional, exhausted, and trying to communicate with Kim about the times she was offering me. There was a mix-up, and if I'm being completely honest, I was a little spicy. 😂 But Kim never responded with attitude. She never made me feel guilty. She never took my difficult moment personally. She was kind, patient, understanding, and continued to reassure me. At one point, I even pushed her away a little and essentially gave her an opportunity to step back and say, “Okay, maybe this isn't working.” She didn't take it. Instead, Kim reaffirmed that she was going to be by my side. That meant EVERYTHING to me. Because sometimes postpartum isn't pretty. Sometimes you're exhausted. Sometimes you're overwhelmed. Sometimes you don't communicate perfectly. Sometimes you need support while simultaneously feeling like you don't want anybody around you. And Kim understood that. She didn't abandon me in those moments. She continued to show me that her commitment wasn't conditional on me always being easy, happy, or perfectly regulated. She saw me as a whole person and continued to meet me with grace. That kind of support is priceless. And now we're taking it to another level! ❤️ We are officially on our first Mommy + Doula trip with baby, and Kim will be traveling with me for leisure activities once a month. That says a lot about the relationship and trust we've built. She has become someone I feel comfortable having alongside me not only during the difficult moments, but during the beautiful ones too. Kim has become part of my village. She has supported me as a mother, supported my children, supported my husband, and most importantly, supported ME. There are people who provide a service, and then there are people who genuinely pour into you. Kim is the latter. If you're a new mom, an experienced mom, overwhelmed, nervous about postpartum, or simply someone who believes in having a strong support system around you, I cannot recommend Kim enough. She is patient. She is compassionate. She is attentive. She is dependable. She is understanding. She is family-oriented. And she genuinely cares. Finding someone who can support you without judgment is a blessing. Finding someone who can support your entire family is rare. Kim is a Godsend. 🙏🏽❤️ I am so grateful that God placed her in my village during this season of my life. And honestly, this isn't just a review of a doula anymore—it's an appreciation post for someone who showed me that sometimes the right person comes into your life at exactly the right time. Kim, thank you for showing up. Thank you for staying. Thank you for understanding me even when I was difficult. Thank you for loving on my family. Thank you for reminding me that I don't have to do everything alone. And thank you for continuing to stand beside me even when I momentarily forgot how much I needed support. We are just getting started! 🥹❤️ 10/10. Highly recommend. A true Godsend. A beautiful addition to my village. And apparently, now my travel doula too! 😂✈️👶🏽

Hi! I'm Jess. I've been a birth doula for over 2 years and have attended 30+ births. I came into this work having a doula myself and am lucky to call her my mentor. My approach is simple: I meet you where you are. I take the time to understand you and your family's priorities for your birth, and I offer as much (or as little!) education as you'd like. Sending along resources and recommendations tailored to what you need, when you need it. Getting ready together I offer a birth planning session where we walk through what to expect in early labor, once you arrive at your place of birth, and the options available to you during admission, pushing, newborn care, and the third stage. Depending on your desires, I can help advocate when something isn't standard practice, and I'll be right there watching for your preferences on the big day. I also offer an in-person prenatal session for you and your partner, where we go over comfort measures and gold-star labor positions (shoutout Spinning Babies!). As your due date gets closer, I help normalize and support those final weeks — encouraging rest, relaxation, and peace as you prepare to meet your baby. On the big day We're busy! I offer plenty of hands-on support — counter pressure, massage, and continued work on positions to help your baby descend. This is all with the support and collaboration of your care team which is important to create a calm, supportive envrionment. Please forgive my lack of a doula website as I have mostly been taking births through an agency. I did attach my womb recording business as I can offer this to my client's free of charge :) I'm so excited for you, and if you've read this far — thank you. I really hope we get to connect. 🤍

Working with Amelia as our HypnoBirthing companion was truly transformative! Over the course of two months in September and October, she guided my husband and me with such kindness, humor, compassion, and grounded presence that after each in-person session, it felt as though we had known her for years. From the very beginning, Amelia created a warm, safe, and engaging space that allowed me to move from extreme fear and uncertainty about pregnancy and birth to feeling calm, confident, and genuinely excited for my birthing day. My husband looked forward to every class, as Amelia gave him tangible, meaningful ways to support me during pregnancy and to be an active, empowered partner during labor. Her teachings not only brought the two of us closer, but also helped us deepen our bond with our baby and equipped us with tools we will continue to use throughout parenthood and in many parts of our personal and professional lives. I am forever grateful to Amelia for sharing her knowledge and expertise in HypnoBirthing. She helped us prepare for the arrival of our baby boy with calm, clarity, peace, and joy and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide on this journey. I miss her dearly but will always take her spirit and teachings with me moving forward. What a gift she is to this world!

Erin is an INCREDIBLE gem of a doula. From the moment my husband and I met her, we knew instantly that she was the one. And we were right! First of all, her passion and positive energy are contagious. We accomplished SO MUCH during our first visit. She patiently guided me through various poses to ease discomfort and prepare me for labor, all while getting to know me. By the end of the visit, she had me completely figured out. In my stubborn moments, Erin always had the magic words to get me unstuck. Our dynamic was as though we were old friends. My birth experience was a 3-day induction with lots of highs and lows. Erin was there for ALL of it and kept the same energy throughout. When I felt lazy and wouldn't get out of the bed, she was the birth whisperer. I laugh when I remember how she "tricked" me into dancing and walking to bring on labor and how much I ended up enjoying it. Erin also wisely guided us through the medical team's recommendations and helped us make informed choices. On day 3, she told me we could get the baby out in a few hours if I did what she said, and IT HAPPENED! I had some unforeseen complications after, and she stayed with my husband and baby until I was out of the OR and stabilized. She even met us at home some weeks after to check on me, debrief, and celebrate. Erin is kind, patient, and genuinely passionate about birth. She has a PERMANENT place in my heart and invitation to the cookout. https://doulamatch.net/testimonial/detail/81721

I had the honor of being her very first doula client, and I truly could not have asked for a better experience. From the very beginning, she was there for me every step of the way. She attended classes with me, checked in with me weekly—and sometimes even daily—and helped me create and manage my birth plan so that I felt prepared and confident going into labor. When it was finally time to give birth, she took control in the best way possible. I didn’t have to ask for anything because she already knew what I needed. She knew my birth plan, she knew what I wanted, and she made sure my voice and wishes were supported throughout the entire experience. One of my biggest goals was to have a natural, unmedicated birth. There were definitely moments when I didn’t know if I could keep going, but because she knew how important that goal was to me, she encouraged me, supported me, and stayed right beside me the entire time. I was able to have the birth experience I wanted, and I will forever be grateful to her for that. As a first-time mom, giving birth could have easily been an experience that made me never want to do it again. Instead, because of the care, comfort, patience, and support she gave me, I can actually say I would do it again. 😂 She wasn’t just my doula—she was my advocate, my support system, and such an important part of one of the biggest moments of my life. Being her first client was truly a blessing, and any mother who chooses her as their doula will be in amazing hands. ❤️

I had every fear, anxiety and horror story heard from friends going through my head about labor and delivery. How could I not, when one of the single biggest things you ever go through (delivering a baby) has no guarantee about how it will go? This is where Blake helped immensely. Not only has she been through this, three times herself, and more than that as a Doula, but she's a wealth of knowledge on everything about it. From the moment Blake told me she was available to be with us at the birth of our daughter, I felt the weight of the unknown world come off of my chest. Not to discredit the amazing nurses and midwives at my delivery or my incredibly smart OBGYN, but there is something to be said for having an advocate for you in the room. Blake personally came to our home prior to birth to learn more about our preferences, my fears, help us lay out a potential birth plan. She helped us understand what the different options were and when one thing might be more important than another. She was on call from there whenever we had questions, concerns or updates. She was my first call when I believed I was in labor. She gave me guidance on what to do from there and met us at the hospital before we were admitted. She walked me around the hospital for 45 minutes because I wasn't dilated enough for them to admit me at first. She advocated for me once we were admitted and ensured my birth plan priorities and needs were met, and quickly. She worked very well with the medical professionals and my husband in the room. She kept me comfortable, occupied and entertained, and above all else, calm. I'll never forget after delivering my daughter, and Blake getting me a snack and drink and literally feeding me while I held my baby for the first time. She checked in on us after delivery. When I look back on memories of that day, and photos (that Blake took) I feel so fortunate to have had such a positive birth experience and credit so much of that to having Blake with us.

I am a birth and postpartum doula as well as a newborn care specialist and infant sleep training consultant serving the Richmond, VA area. I have been involved in birth work since 1992. I have 13 children that I have delivered at home and in a hospital setting with both doctors and midwives.

Recent review

Having Ruth as our doula was undoubtedly one of the best decisions my husband and I made during my pregnancy. One of my best friends suggested that I find a doula when she found out I was expecting our first child. I started the search but it ended as soon as I met Ruthy. We hit it off immediately. She was funny, caring, detail orientated, experienced and also put my mind at ease. She also made me laugh and within minutes I felt as though I had known her for years! My husband, who was initially unsure about hiring a doula, warmed up to the idea once he realized that she would be there to support BOTH of us – not just me, and she was also NOT replacing him. During my pregnancy she would often check in on me and offer advice. I loved knowing she was only one phone call or text away- especially in the weeks leading up to my due date. The meetings we had and the birth class she offered were educational, informative, and fun. I actually felt prepared and calm on the day we checked into the hospital! When the time came she was by our side in the hospital for nearly 24 hours, staying awake with us all night and staying by our sides. Every 12 hours when the nursing shifts would change I would start to feel anxious, but knowing Ruthy was still there immediately calmed me down. She provided us with comfort and support. She was also my cheerleader, my advocate and my support system! Every time the doctor or nurse would recommend something, I would look at her for reassurance. In hindsight – I simply can’t imagine those 24 hours without her. In closing, if you are reading this review and looking for a doula on doulamatch.net – look no further then Ruth Green. If Ruth can keep this nervous first-time anxiety ridden Mama happy during a pandemic – AND keep me smiling, laughing and CALM in the L&D room for over 24 hours – she is capable of anything!! Hire Ruth and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I’ve experienced inductions, epidurals, unmedicated labor, cesareans, and a NICU stay, between my births and my past clients, so I understand how different every journey can be. My husband and I have two daughters. They’re 6 and 1. Outside of doula work, I enjoy practicing music, learning Korean, crocheting, and unwinding with good movies, books, and music.

Jodie was an amazing doula! From the very beginning, she was always available to answer questions and offer support. It honestly felt more like having a good friend walk with me through pregnancy. As a first-time mom, having Jodie by my side helped ease so much anxiety, not just for me, but for my husband too. From the power of pregnancy stones to essential oils, aromatherapy, meditation, and sound baths, Jodie offers a wide range of options to support you during pregnancy, labor, and beyond. Although my out-of-hospital birth didn’t go as planned and I ended up transferring to the hospital, Jodie never left my side. She offered unwavering support, comfort, and even helped deliver our baby. I truly don’t think I could have done it without her!

Catherine was our support system for the birth of our first daughter. She taught us so much as we prepared to welcome our daughter, and she was the cheerleader I needed by my side during delivery. She was always available for random questions/concerns and she helped us get the information we needed to feel confident in the decisions we made at the hospital and beyond. As a Catholic family, it was also really nice to have another strong Catholic woman praying for us and with us throughout the whole process. I have recommended Catherine to friends considering hiring a doula, and I will continue to do so.

Anisha was such a calming presence during my labor. She paid attention to what I needed and helped me through contractions with different comfort measures. One thing I’ll never forget is the warm stones she used on my back. The heat felt so soothing, especially when she paired it with pressure on my hips. It helped me relax and get through some of the hardest moments. She also made sure my partner knew how to support me and helped me feel heard throughout the experience. I’m grateful I had Anisha there. If you want a doula who brings both knowledge and genuine care into the room, I highly recommend her.
