We so often are in search of magic, without realizing we have it right inside of ourselves. For me, becoming a mother has proven that to be true. Birthing Ancestors was created from the idea that when you have a child you are not only birthing a future generation, but you are also birthing yourself as a parent - someone’s ancestor. It is my greatest honor to holistically support you throughout every stage of your childbearing journey, and help you to discover the magic that has always been inside of you. Since becoming a certified Full Spectrum Doula in 2021, I have fallen deeply in love with this work. I have expanded my knowledge to support clients from fertility/preconception planning thru postpartum, with special interests in herbal and nutritional support. I also have 200hr yoga teacher certification giving me knowledge in anatomy, stretching and strengthening muscles, relaxation techniques, and preparing the body for labor.

Recent review

Micalyn is an amazing doula and I highly recommend her services. I am forever grateful for her crucial role in making my unmedicated, hospital birth a positive and empowering experience. The prenatal meetings were very in-depth and included healthcare during pregnancy, rehearsal of labor positions, and the construction of a birth plan. Micalyn also provided me with handmade herbal tea and was readily available via phone or text at any time I needed support. Going into my birth, I felt prepared and confident. I was immensely thankful for Micalyn’s presence during my labor and birth. Whether it was conversation or physical touch, her peaceful and loving presence was so appreciated. She made the hospital space as beautiful as possible with Christmas lights near the bed and flameless candles around the bathtub. Micalyn collaborated fabulously with the hospital staff, and everyone was very impressed with her. When I was pushing, she was the one who suggested the position change that immediately resulted in my baby’s delivery. Micalyn was right there by my side when my son quickly entered the world: she called to the midwife to catch him and her shoes got drenched with the birthing fluids! Our postpartum visits were extremely helpful. When my son was a few days old, she came over and taught me how to do things such as put a diaper on and wear a baby wrap. She also brought me another handmade tea for sitz baths, which felt amazing. Micalyn is clearly made for this work and I can’t recommend her doula services highly enough!

Hi I am Maria, and I came to doula work after working in childcare for 8 years. After spending time with parents who had relatively no postpartum care or support, I soon started my training to bridge that gap. I believe that the postpartum period is one of the most crucial stages of pregnancy. Many parents experience feelings of loneliness, confusion, and exhaustion and it is Maria’s top priority to help parents feel their best during your fourth trimester. Maria believes that every family who wants a doula should have one. Promoting a judgement free zone, she happily works with families and individuals of any age, race, & gender. Instilling confidence and nurturing a new family is what makes Maria excited to go to work every day. Maria has been trained as an EMT, birth and postpartum doula, IBCLC.

Recent review

I have worked with Maria for almost a year now and it has been the best decision for my family. I am a first time mom and only got 6 weeks of maternity leave before going back to work full time. Maria provided overnight support and it helped tremendously. She took over care for my son so that I could get a full nights sleep. I woke up to a happy baby, clean house, and was able to start the day off right. I absolutely recommend Maria to everyone!

I am a birth and postpartum doula who loves working with new families as they grow and develop! When it comes to birth, I believe each person labors and births in their own unique way, and I want to discover what the birth process looks like for you. I believe the postpartum period is a time of rest, healing, and bonding for new parents, and I lovingly support that process in your home. When I'm not doula-ing, I enjoy reading, yoga, and spending time outside.

Cari Walters

Thank you for taking a minute to learn more about me! My name is Cari Walters. After an eight year battle with infertility, including a full year of testing, medications, and numerous hospital visits, I started my own mom Journey. My husband was deployed to Iraq for the birth of our first child. I would have been all alone if it wasn’t for the close-knit military wives (and occasionally my mom who lived out of state) that encircled me during this precious time. If it wasn’t for these women loving on me and advising me before, during, and after my birth, I know it would not have been such a positive experience. I knew at once that I wanted to support and love other moms in the same manner. I started out supporting new moms by being a part of a group called MOPS. My husband returned from war and shortly after we were blessed with a second baby without all the fertility trials. I continued working with moms through the MOPS organization as we moved across the country to Colorado. It was there that I met a beautiful friend and fellow MOPS mentor who introduced me to being a doula. In 2020, after taking the 200hr course with 75hrs of clinical work I began my journey as a full spectrum doula. I absolutely love birth and postpartum work but quickly learned that I really shined on the postpartum side of birth work. I concentrated on obtaining my Newborn Care Specialist certification and Sleep Guide Certification to improve and round out my skills as a postpartum doula.

Recent review

Cari has been wonderful to work with. Highly recommend. She is very professional, supportive & knowledgeable. She always arrives on time, maybe even a little early. I appreciate that she always leaves a note recapping the night with how much the LO ate, diapers & any comments on sleep or suggestions. My animals also loved Cari and the extra late night pets!

Desiree turned what could have been a traumatic pregnancy and birth experience into an experience where I was well informed, prepared and put at ease. I had a high risk pregnancy and was told at only 20 weeks that I would give birth prematurely. Desiree was always available when I called her with news from the doctor and not only did she remain calm at all times, but she gave me great advice which ultimately taught me how to advocate for myself and my child. I would highly recommend her doula services!

India is a certified birth & postpartum doula, who loves to read, cook & eat, exercise, drink tea, & have a good time. Certified through BMBFA, India graduated with three births, which kickstarted her doula career. India’s mission behind Laboring with Love, Doula Services is to change the way women experience motherhood & lessen the stress & anxiety surrounding childbirth & the 4th trimester. This will be achieved by providing you with adequate & evidence-based information, resources, comfort measures during labor, emotional, physical & mental support, while advocating for you & teaching you the proper way to advocate for yourself so you’re able to achieve your desired birth experience. Caring for you during the 4th trimester, LWLDS practices the Ayurvedic approach, which is an Indian practice that relies on a natural & holistic approach to help you heal physically & mentally, by focusing on four things: rest, warmth, nutrition, & body work. Mothers need to be mothered and nurtured so they’re able to properly mother & nurture their child, which is why during the 4th trimester, the focus is to care for the mother. Every woman deserves a doula & there’s no way to labor than to Labor with Love!

My favorite moment during birth is seeing the laboring person tap into a strength that most do not realize has always been there. I am Kayla Connors; a black birth worker from Allen Park, MI. I trained with DONA International in March of 2020 and have recently re-trained with ProDoula. While black and native laboring people statistically face more complications from and after labor, the inflexible nature of the healthcare system impacts ALL of us. I am here to help you navigate your labor by grounding you in your birth experience. What does that mean? I recognize that each laboring person has that kernel of strength within them. It is natural for that strength to be clouded by uncertainty. I will channel the seed of that strength through my own enthusiasm and facilitate its growth throughout the birthing process whether that looks like words of affirmation, deep breathing, breathing exercises, etc so that you can say “I did that” with a giant grin on your face. I am here for you, and am grateful for the opportunity to be invited into such a sacred space.
