Emma Steeves

Hi, I’m Emma, your local birth bestie and birth aficionado! I’m a DONA trained doula based out of Toronto, ON looking to support families throughout their birth journey. My goal is to provide amazing care to each client, tailored to their specific needs. Ever since I was young, I have been passionate about supporting families. Inspired by my childhood dreams of being a early childhood educator, an OBGYN and later a midwife, I have always felt a strong pull towards family care and birth work. In my community, I started by becoming the favourite neighborhood babysitter, then in University I became a loving part time nanny, then moved on to work as a manager of a children’s swim school for several years. Alongside my passion for birth support, I have a deep appreciation for art and creativity. I spent three years working at an art gallery and went on to get my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Painting. Even then, my dream of caring for families never left me, with my passions leading me to run impromptu prenatal education sessions during lunch breaks at work. In May of 2024 I made the exciting decision to take a step back from my art career and focus full time on becoming a doula. Now, I am dedicated to being the best “birth bestie” I can be for my clients by proving them with compassionate care, encouragement, and unwavering support every step of the way.

Words can’t fully express how grateful we are to have had Doris as our birth doula. From the very beginning, she brought such a calming, grounded, and nurturing energy into our journey. She took the time to truly get to know us—our fears, hopes, and birth preferences—and made us feel completely supported and empowered every step of the way. During labor, Doris was an absolute rock. She created a peaceful environment, gently guided me through each contraction, and helped my partner feel confident and involved. Her presence was intuitive and comforting—knowing just when to offer words of encouragement, grounding touch, or simply hold space. She honored our birth plan while remaining flexible and wise when things needed to shift. What stood out most was how she held space not just for the physical birth, but for the emotional and spiritual process too. Her care felt ancestral, like something deep and sacred was being honored. Postpartum, she checked in with such genuine care, offering wisdom, warmth, and reassurance when we needed it most. If you’re looking for a doula who is deeply attuned, knowledgeable, and truly walks beside you in love and respect—Doris is it. She made our birth experience not only beautiful, but transformational

There are no words to describe the unbelievable value and knowledge that Emily brought through my entire pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I always knew I wanted to have a doula especially at birth, but I didn’t realize the important role Emily would play. She educates you throughout pregnancy and provides you with a range of resources. You learn about what is happening during your body at the time as well as birth itself and your choices during labour. My birth was not the way I had imagined it would go. But having the knowledge and being able to advocate for myself in what I wanted at the time allowed me to have an empowering birth no matter the outcome. Emily was the one who made sure we knew our choices every step of the way. I had never felt so prepared or confident for what I was predicting to be a HUGE challenge. Having a doula is literally like having a passionate best friend, who you can count on at any time and who is a constant wealth of knowledge! Emily especially, is a warm, positive, compassionate and unbelievably supportive human. She makes you feel comfortable in your most vulnerable moments. My husband really enjoyed working with her and the encouragement of labour techniques that they tag teamed during labour. He kept saying, “I couldn’t have done it without Emily”, as she was there the entire longggg labour. Another amazing benefit Emily has provided us with is that after birth she will answer any phone call or text with questions, which is so appreciated when you're sleep deprived and have no clue how to care for a new baby. She is especially knowledgeable with breastfeeding, helping our baby get the perfect latch! I hope we are able to conceive again one day and have Emily with us every step of the way! She truly is the positive light everyone should have during the most vulnerable times!

I cannot recommend Isabel Nantaba enough as a birth and postpartum doula. From the moment we met her, she brought a sense of calm, confidence, and compassion that immediately put me at ease. During labor, Isabel provided unwavering support, intuitive guidance, and gentle encouragement, helping me feel empowered and informed every step of the way. Her care didn’t end after birth; she was a constant source of support during the postpartum period. She helped me navigate the early days with practical advice, emotional reassurance, and hands-on assistance, making the transition to parenthood so much smoother and less overwhelming. Isabel’s approach is both professional and deeply caring. She truly listens, adapts to your needs, and creates a nurturing environment for you and your family. Choosing Isabel as our doula was one of the best decisions we made, and I am so grateful for her presence during such a transformative time in our lives.

Shannon Nickerson

Christian doula serving mothers in the GTA & beyond, throughout pregnancy, birth, & postpartum. Personalized birth support rooted in physiology, faith, & hope. As one of nine children, my love for children, pregnancy, and birth began early, inspired by my mother’s own birth stories. This passion led me to become a certified doula through GoMidwife and Intentional Birth, along with additional midwifery education and a year-long apprenticeship under a midwife in the US. Having supported over 70 women through pregnancy and birth, I am passionate about helping mothers understand physiologic birth, navigate their options, communicate confidently with their care providers, and make informed decisions. I believe God has intricately designed women’s bodies to birth and nurture their babies, while also recognizing that medical intervention is sometimes necessary. My goal is to equip and encourage women to approach birth with confidence, trust, and hope—and to feel empowered as they welcome their babies and enter motherhood.

We are so grateful for the support and care Shannon gave us throughout the journey of welcoming our first baby. She shared so much knowledge and went above and beyond in sharing resources and answering our questions. She helped us feel informed, prepared, and confident every step of the way. When the birth didn’t go according to plan, she was there to support us during a very emotional time. Her kindness and presence made such a difference in our experience. She truly went above and beyond in her care for our family, during pregnancy and postpartum. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to guide us through this journey! Shannon is truly wonderful!!

As a mother of three, I understand firsthand the beauty and challenges that come with the postpartum journey. My work as a postpartum and birth doula is rooted in deep empathy and genuine care, qualities that have only been strengthened through my experience raising a special needs child. I bring calm, nonjudgmental support to families as they adjust to life with a newborn, offering both practical help and emotional reassurance. Over the past several years, I have supported families through both hospital and home births, navigating many different birth experiences and outcomes. I remain a steady advocate throughout, ensuring that families feel heard, respected, and empowered in every decision. I don’t even know where to begin in describing how grateful I am for Petra and the incredible support she gave me, my husband, and our son born in April 2024. She was, in every sense of the word, the doula of our dreams. We call her our 'fairy godmother.' We were first-time parents who truly didn’t know what we were doing. Petra walked into our home with a calm, reassuring presence that immediately made us feel safe and supported. Petra never made us feel judged or inadequate — instead, she showed us step by step how to care for our newborn, starting with the first step into our house from the hospital, and my question of, "umm, so where do I put him?". From there, she patiently taught us all the practical skills (feeding, burping, bathing, diapering, soothing, etc.), as we had no idea what we were doing. All the books I read while pregnant did not prepare me for the real thing. Petra prepared us for the real thing. More than the “how-to,” Petra gave us peace of mind. She answered every question with kindness and expertise. She normalized our fears, reassured us when we second-guessed ourselves, and reminded us that we were doing a good job. She also cared for us as parents. She encouraged us to rest, to eat, and to breathe. Her presence lifted so much of the anxiety from those early days and gave us space to bond with our baby rather than drown in uncertainty. Petra was everything we hoped for in a doula: knowledgeable, nurturing, reliable, compassionate, and endlessly patient. She went above and beyond. I can say without exaggeration that she helped us survive and truly enjoy those first weeks as a new family. Suyin also contributed to the post-partum support of our family as my lactation consultant. You really just don't know how difficult breast feeding is until you try it! Suyin helped me with latch, positioning, and confidence. Her visits at our home were comfortable and stress-free, and she helped turned breast-feeding into something I could actually enjoy. I can’t recommend her enough!

Ciera supported our family with postpartum doula services 5 days a week for just over 4 months following the birth of our daughter, and what a difference she made. She is professional, dependable and quickly became well integrated within the household (our older children were always excited to see her!). She has such a way with babies, our daughter very quickly developed into a sound overnight sleeper. We were also grateful that she worked with us to ensure we could be reimbursed through Carrot insurance. I would recommend Ciera to any expecting parent who is looking for calm guidance, professional support and loving care for their newborns.
