Darnicia Holt

9 years of experience

Hey! I’m Darnicia, a full-spectrum doula, birth mindset educator, and reproductive justice advocate. TL;DR From organizing protests and fighting for social justice to shutting down systemic abuse, violence, and oppression in the medicalized perinatal care system. My passion? Teaching incredible birthing people — like you — how to trust your intuition❤️‍🔥 and advocate for your autonomy,🗣️ so you feel ✨empowered to be the authority of all your reproductive experiences✨ — fertility to postpartum (or not being pregnant at all). 👀 A little more info… To me, birthwork is inherently linked to social justice and activism. Birthwork is advocacy, and advocacy follows you through every aspect of your life. Therefore, advocacy isn’t something you learn; it’s who you are. I’ve taken what I’ve learned in my years as a social justice organizer and have applied it to birthwork. Sometimes, the fight for my clients to have the reproductive outcomes they desire mirrors the intensity I’ve seen when organizing for human rights. When necessary, I use the same energy it takes to shut down streets and apply it to protect my clients’ experience. What does this mean for you? I have the heart and the skills to fight for your dream birth or whatever support you need. But no worries, I’ll only fight to whatever extent you need or are comfortable with. ☺️ The foundation of the doula role is about the person you are. I am an advocate. Fun facts: I’m a wife and Mom of two. I’m a HUGE Marvel/MCU fan. I L😍VE Thai Iced Tea and mushroom coffee 🍄☕.

Darnicia helped us with postpartum care for our newborn and we are grateful beyond measure for her support and expertise. She is very kind, calming, and has a high degree of knowledge. She is such a warm person and we felt well cared for alongside our baby. In the matter of a few weeks, we went from frazzled new parents to having a baby who sleeps through the night multiple nights per week. I highly recommend Darnicia for postpartum care for anyone who is looking to establish healthy routines for their baby and wants to feel very supported in the process.

Mia Willis

7 years of experience

It is an honor to be here. My name is Mia Willis, a Chicago-based birth worker, educator, and founder of Sorin Motherhouse—a maternal practice devoted to the protection, becoming, and realignment of the mother. Sorin Motherhouse is built on the belief that maternal care is sacred work, not a service industry. My approach to birth and maternal care is relational rather than transactional, grounded in presence, discernment, and sovereignty over saviorism. My work is informed by lived experience, research-backed training, and clinical practice, honoring the mother as the primary site of wisdom and transformation. I hold training in traditional birth work and budding herbalism alongside modernized birth support, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care that is respectful of diverse lived realities. My practice also includes foundational education in nutrition and lactation support during pregnancy and the fourth trimester. I have served over seventy families as a full-spectrum doula, holding space across a wide range of birth experiences with care, steadiness and integrity. Sorin Motherhouse is carefully curated maternal space for those who approach birth as a rite and maternal care as a serious, embodied charge. It centers mothers who enter pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with the understanding that becoming requires intention, rest, and deep respect. This work is rooted, discerning, and intentionally held—by design. I look forward to connecting with you.

I have raved about Mia for years. I will continue to rave about Mia for the years to come. Absolutely amazing. I was one of her very first mothers and she has helped me welcome two of my little ones earth side. Care is phenomenal. She is patient, she is a leader. And she is a hardworking, my last delivery, she was right there waddling alongside me, helping me bring forth life, while she carried one of her own. I will forever have her as a doula. I love her and I know anyone else that welcomes her care, will as well.

Recent review

Me and my wife found Niaja on Bornbir, recommended by a doctor We had the pleasure of having Niaja as our overnight nanny for our twin newborns, and we couldn't be more grateful for her help. One of our twins required an oxygen machine and needed close monitoring, and Niaja handled it with such care and professionalism. She was amazing, reliable, and trustworthy, always ensuring our little one was safe and comfortable. In addition to her exceptional care, she also helped with washing and sterilizing bottles and keeping up with the baby laundry, which was a huge relief for us. Niaja truly went above and beyond, and we highly recommend her to anyone in need of a dedicated and compassionate nanny. Thank you, Niaja, for everything!

I am a DONA certifying birth doula who is passionate about changing the birthing experience for expectant parents by providing emotional and physical comfort and presence during your sacred transition.

Recent review

I am grateful for Amy Patel beyond words. Despite being unable to provide her with the compensation she deserved, she still agreed to be our doula. This shows her love and care for her clients. She took the time to listen to my story, understand my needs, and advocate for me as a soon-to-be mother of two. Amy respected my family by asking questions and getting to know us before the birth experience. She was attentive and took notes, ensuring she remembered our shared information. Amy helped me plan for my C-section when it was confirmed that my daughter was not turning. As I was occupied with my doctoral program, she even helped me write a birth plan and pack my hospital bag. On the day of the C-section, she arrived on time and stayed with me throughout, except for the surgery itself. She even remembered to bring chapstick and rubbed my feet while we waited for the surgery room. She held my hand as the nurse tried to insert my IV and post-surgery, she hugged me and rubbed my shoulders as I cried after a pediatrician disrespected me. She even stayed overnight so my husband could care for our daughter at home. Amy continued to check up on me via text in the weeks following my hospital discharge and even visited us one last time. I highly recommend Amy Patel as a doula. She is empathetic, respectful, and genuinely caring towards her clients.

Lynn Morley

9 years of experience
Accepts insurance

Lynn began her indie doula and photography practice in 2018. Her background is in reproductive health and non profits as an educator, direct care professional, and in state policy and project management. She has a BA in Gender Studies, is a certified birth, postpartum, and full spectrum doula, a childbirth educator, and a member of the Queer Doula Network. She hangs her fanny pack in Andersonville where she lives with her wife Mercedes -- a deep-hearted middle school teacher she's spellbound by, and with whom she shares the creative practice called home. Weaving together modern and traditional approaches, her support with families focuses on body literacy and agency, trauma and healing, educating and preparing for birth and postpartum, collective care, caretaking and parenting, honoring transitions, and nurturing relationships (including sex and intimacy). Knowledge building is a collaborative mixture of education, experience, and intuition. At the heart of it: you belong to yourself and are the expert of your own experience. She is committed to trauma-informed practices and co-creating safer spaces by being body- and sex-positive, anti-racist, pro-choice, queer and gender affirming, and welcoming to solo, poly, blended, or communal families. Your care should be designed for your comfort, needs, and wants. It should see you in your full context – your stage of life, unique body, lived experience, culture, community, ability, desires, and dreams.

Liam is an extremely caring, intelligent and respectful doula. She sat with me in a lot of grief and anxiety in my fifth pregnancy, (my last one, following three miscarriages.) She rode through the dark moments with me and really helped me mentally prepare for giving birth to a living baby, which I had struggled to mentally accept as possibility. She made sure that I was comfortable enough to take my last birthing experience into my own hands. I truly couldn’t have done it without her experience, care and dedication.

Hi, I'm Jennifer! I am thrilled to be a Co-Founder of Stateline BirthKeepers. I am a mother of 4 children, a certified EMT, a yoga instructor, and a homesteader. I have been working in the birthing world for the past 15 years as a birth doula since I received my training through DONA International in Chicago, IL, from some of the most amazing women. I am also our facilitator of the Closing of the Bones Ceremonies, a certified dancing for birth instructor, and a placenta encapsulation specialist. I provide other services such as Belly Casting, Rebozo techniques, Birth Photography and blessing way ceremonies. I accept no more than 2 birth doula clients each month, so you can rest easy. I can't wait to meet you and I look forward to assisting you on this journey to meeting your baby!

Jennifer was amazing and an essential part of my labor. I was becoming a new mom, and very nervous about what labor would bring. I was committed to an unmedicated labor and my goal was a water birth. With Jennifer by my side, I felt safe and secure despite the arduous task I was facing. My husband was there beside me, but he was as fearful as I was, if not more. Thankfully Jennifer knew how to keep me calm, but help me progress along. When my laboring slowed in the warm water, she had me exit the tub and got my husband involved with supporting my weight to sway back and forth in a squatting position and lower the baby into the birth canal. Jennifer knows how to manage various challenging circumstances that arise. My midwife was great, but I learned with a few labors that they are not very participatory throughout the labor. For this reason, having a doula in the process is extremely important, and Jennifer is well equipped to properly support a woman on her birthing journey.

Mayra Buitron

Mayra Buitron

Compassionate birth and postpartum doula hoping to provide holistic culturally sensitive and evidence-based support. Spanish and English speaking.

Recent review

Mayra Elisa was my Doula about 2 years ago to assist me with the delivery of my first baby. She was amazing! I have been a Labor & Delivery Nurse for 8 years and while I have a wealth of knowledge and debated getting a doula in the first place, I'm SO glad I did. I was able to have someone on my side that validated and supported me. She helped me labor prior to getting an epidural so that my husband could take a nap. This 2-3 hour nap recharged my husband so he could be present for the birth and him being well rested contributed to him gently reminding the the team my accurate pushing time as they thought I had been pushing longer than I had been, preventing me from getting a C-section. Also at the very end prior to giving birth it was likely that I was going to need a C-section as her head was slightly sideways so she wasn't coming down the pelvic outlet enough for a safe vacuum assisted delivery after almost 4 hours of pushing. Thankfully my baby was doing well and not in distress and I had no fever but I understood if we needed to have a c-section it made sense. Mayra had then suggested one last pushing position we hadn't tried yet (We had tried EVERYTHING) and directed my nurse and husband into that pushing position (closed-knee! its a great position!) 4 pushes later my baby's head turned and got past the pelvic bone and I was able to have a vaginal delivery!! Even with all of my clinical experience having a doula by my side helped me so much. As a disclaimer- You are not guaranteed a vaginal birth just because you have a doula, a C-section may be the safest way for you to give birth. However, an experienced doula will definitely improve your chances of a vaginal delivery and regardless of how you choose or how your labor/baby chooses your delivery for you, Mayra is amazing. She respects your wishes and validates you and helps you come up with questions for your midwife and doctor and helps inform your partner and yourself on what to expect next and helps answer your questions. She has experience guiding people through C-sections, Complicated labors, hospital and home births. She offers you her thoughts on the different options for giving birth, but never imposes one agenda and helps you based on what you are looking for. She also can answer your questions on breastfeeding, pumping and formula feeding and doesn't make you feel like you need to pick one way or another and just supports you all the way with your choices. Also, her being bilingual (Spanish speaking) and bicultural was such a plus. Having her in the labor room with me was important to me, while I was born and raised in the U.S. my first language is Spanish and my family is from Peru, so having her by my side felt like having a sister or aunt with me and she was familiar with a lot of the cultural remedies and ideas.

Marisol was the most knowledgeable, compassionate, and helpful doula one could ask for. She was there for me most my pregnancy and in labor. Whenever I had questions, especially being a first pregnancy she always had answers and gave me peice of mind. I had horrible back pain and she suggested several stretches and exercises that I could do on my own and some that my husband could help with and they were really helpful in relieving pregnancy pains. My labor started right when she finished with another labor and she was there for me full of energy. She would ask the nurse to bring me items like a peanut ball, a mirror, or dimming the lights to help me get though labor pains and to feel as comfortable as possible. She always had a very calm voice and touch. I would highly recommend using Marisol as your doula. There is so much information and helpful tips she as a doula will provide for pregnancy, labor, post partum and breastfeeding that is not provided by your OBGYN
