I have always loved babies, caring for my friends, and giving my all and helping whenever they are pregnant, postpartum, or simply raising their families. I have always enjoyed being able to offer acts of service and support to others, and becoming a doula has helped me embrace this love language in so many new ways I never knew possible. With becoming a doula, my goal is to help support new families and moms by emotionally and physically supporting them through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I'm Stephanie with Gentle Birthing, and my interest in birth work was awakened the day my first child was born in 2010 at home, surrounded by our midwife and birthing team. It was at that point I realized that more women need to know their birthing options. We had 4 more home water births in South Carolina before returning to Southeast Michigan where we welcomed our 6th child at home in 2020. I enjoy learning about the physiology of pregnancy and the process of giving birth and am fascinated with all the different natural coping techniques for pain management. With each of my own births, I implemented something new I had learned along the way. I hope to support expecting mothers in the ways I have received encouragement and support from the birth workers in my life. Their support changed the way I thought about birth and what I was capable of doing.

Holistic nutritional full circle doula, Lorenda provides educational, emotional, and physical support to moms and their support team through their journey of parenthood. She received her certificate as community-based doula at Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA) in 2018 and trained as a full circle doula with Shafia Monroe Consulting, 2022. In January 2023, Lorenda became a Medicaid Provider as a doula, and trains other doulas to become Medicaid providers for the state of Michigan. As a leader, Lorenda serves on the Doula Advisory Council with the State of Michigan and is the president at Motor City Doula Association where she leads monthly meet ups with other doulas in the community.

Originally, I attended a university to pursue a career being a Labor & Delivery or Neonatal nurse. But after doing research, I discovered the wonderful world of Doulas. I instantly fell in love with it. As of now, I have received my certificate from International Doula Institute and working towards my Postpartum Doula certificate. As I am not a mother yet (definitely planning on it!), I have two little dogs who are like my kids in a way. They mean the world to me along with my long term boyfriend.
