Hi! My name is Alyssa I am a birth doula and living in southeast Michigan. I have always loved babies, caring for my friends, and giving my all and helping whenever they are pregnant, postpartum, or simply raising their families. I have always enjoyed being able to offer acts of service and support to others, and becoming a doula has helped me embrace this love language in so many new ways I never knew possible. With becoming a doula, my goal is to help support new families and moms by emotionally and physically supporting them through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Advocating for them with knowledge, and helping them make thought out decisions when needed in labor. I want to help every mom take back their birth and make it an experience they love to talk about and remember. As said in Isaiah chapter 66, verse 13, “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.” My goal as a doula is to hold the mother through every stage and be there for her and her family.

I'm Stephanie with Gentle Birthing, and my interest in birth work was awakened the day my first child was born in 2010 at home, surrounded by our midwife and birthing team. It was at that point I realized that more women need to know their birthing options. We had 4 more home water births in South Carolina before returning to Southeast Michigan where we welcomed our 6th child at home in 2020. I enjoy learning about the physiology of pregnancy and the process of giving birth and am fascinated with all the different natural coping techniques for pain management. With each of my own births, I implemented something new I had learned along the way. I hope to support expecting mothers in the ways I have received encouragement and support from the birth workers in my life. Their support changed the way I thought about birth and what I was capable of doing.

After falling in love with my birthing experience, I wanted to help support other expectant mothers in having the birth experience of their dreams. During the pandemic I was becoming a first time mom and had no idea what to expect so I researched and found an amazing doula. My doula helped me gain the knowledge and resources needed to plan and have an unmedicated vaginal birth at a birthing center. After this, I became certified as a Doula through Best Doula. Giving birth helped me to realize that having a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies as well as 10+ years experience working with children and families did not fully prepare me for the preparation needed to give birth. That was the job of a doula and support team. Since this time, I have been working as a doula in and around Detroit❤️

My name is Alyssa and I am a 22 year old Certified Birth Doula. I became a doula due to my desire to help families during a truly special time in their lives. Originally, I attended a university to pursue a career being a Labor & Delivery or Neonatal nurse. But after doing research, I discovered the wonderful world of Doulas. I instantly fell in love with it. As of now, I have received my certificate from International Doula Institute and working towards my Postpartum Doula certificate. As I am not a mother yet (definitely planning on it!), I have two little dogs who are like my kids in a way. They mean the world to me along with my long term boyfriend. In my free time I enjoy watching movies, walking my dogs, and hammock by the water & eating a snack with my boyfriend.

My favorite moment during birth is seeing the laboring person tap into a strength that most do not realize has always been there. I am Kayla Connors; a black birth worker from Allen Park, MI. I trained with DONA International in March of 2020 and have recently re-trained with ProDoula. While black and native laboring people statistically face more complications from and after labor, the inflexible nature of the healthcare system impacts ALL of us. I am here to help you navigate your labor by grounding you in your birth experience. What does that mean? I recognize that each laboring person has that kernel of strength within them. It is natural for that strength to be clouded by uncertainty. I will channel the seed of that strength through my own enthusiasm and facilitate its growth throughout the birthing process whether that looks like words of affirmation, deep breathing, breathing exercises, etc so that you can say “I did that” with a giant grin on your face. I am here for you, and am grateful for the opportunity to be invited into such a sacred space.
