I’m looking for a doula to support me during my first hospital birth, due August 5th. I plan to deliver at Greensboro’s Women & Children’s Hospital and will be using Medicaid/Healthy Blue coverage if available. I want a calm, supportive, and reassuring birth experience with someone who can help advocate for me, keep me comfortable, and guide me through labor emotionally and physically. I’d like support with breathing, positioning, pain management techniques, and staying relaxed during labor. My goal is to have a positive hospital birth where I feel informed, supported, and respected throughout the process.

The only 100% decided part of my birth plan is no epidural, calm, relaxed environment, dim lighting, minimal intervention, minimal cervical checks, no medications unless medically necessary. I plan to give birth in a hospital but I need a doula that will help me advocate for myself. I have an overall “what I don’t want” but I’m terrible at advocating for myself and need a voice to help me not be swayed into something I don’t want to have. I am looking for a non-religious doula if possible and especially need one that takes Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina insurance. My goal is to have a natural birth in the birthing center (that’s attached to the hospital), I do not want an epidural but I’m open to trying nitrous oxide, I do not want to be induced, I’m aiming for infrequent cervical checks since they aren’t actually a way to assess progress, I want to delay cord clamping until the cord has stopped pulsating. I want to do immediate skin to skin with me and then with my husband and almost all tests can be done while doing skin to skin. I also do not want the baby taken out of my sight at any point unless for a medical emergency in which case my husband or doula would need to keep an eye on my baby at all times. I can’t think of anything else at the moment.

I have not yet decided whether I will have a home birth, or of give birth at Naval Medical Center. I am planning to have a natural, unmediated birth and know I will need physical and emotional support through it.
