I’m a mom of four—two daughters I had when I was young, and two sons I’ve had in my 30s with my husband, whom I married last year. My journey as a teen mom taught me resilience, the importance of support, and the power of community—lessons I carry with me every day. Family and community are central to my life: I’m connected through our church, and I spend a lot of time with my three sisters, raising our children together, exploring hikes, and finding outdoor adventures. I’ve homeschooled my older daughters from kindergarten through 4th grade, participating in a co-op school and fostering a love of learning along the way. Outside of family, I enjoy volunteering with YoungLives to support teen parents, playing board games, video games and reading. I’ve had a variety of jobs over the years, but the one I’ve enjoyed the most is raising my children—it’s taught me patience, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the small moments that matter most

I love getting dirty in my native backyard habitat, knitting, cross-stitching, singing, attending live concerts, and discovering new coves at the coast.​ I was inspired to become a birth professional after my own powerful birth experiences. The birth of my first child was incredibly intense, and I discovered an inner strength that I did not know I had. I learned from this birth that our bodies are incredible and unpredictable and that giving birth was simultaneously beautiful and raw.

I'm a former licensed teacher that followed my passion to change my 17 year side job of childbirth education and birth doula work into a full time career. It started with earning my credentials as a childbirth educator from the Seattle Midwifery School and teaching in Portland area hospitals but morphed into doing birth doula work as people I met invited me to be part of their births. I like to say I fell into birth doula work unintentionally, but it ignited a passion to do it all that I could (while raising young children, teaching kindergarten part time, and teaching childbirth prep. WHEW! Those were busy years!) Fast forward to 2022, when I became an empty nester (letting both my scientist and my opera singing daughters fly!) and made the decision to leave the classroom and pursue birth doula work and childbirth education. I hold a Masters Degree in curriculum and instruction, so helping birthing people and their support team learn about birth is a natural and easy process for me. Once I decided to do birth work full time, I pursed further education as a birth doula (which was a review of a TINY part that I learned through childbirth educator training, LOL!) and became DONA certified as a birth doula. Through the years I have been lucky to experience a wide variety of births: medicated, unmedicated, planned and unplanned cesarean, VBAC, and so much more. I have years of experience helping those that birth, with or without neurodivergence and other challenges, find their way to empowerment and joy, no matter how their birth journey unfolds. I pull from a wide range of tools, tricks, and methods to provide what YOU would like your birth to look, sound, and feel like. I come from a long line of birth workers: my grandmother was a NICU nurse and my great grandmother was a rural health doctor in Pakistan. This family history spurred an early interest in perinatal health care. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in my 20's, and thus developed the necessary skill of navigating healthcare systems. From my own advocacy, I developed a greater curiosity for the reproductive health space. My varied comfort skills draw from my experiences with chronic pain. Through my work as a doula, I aim to bolster a sense of empowerment and safety for the families I work with. I have always had a passion to support women and babies every since I was younger. I have been in the medical field for 7 years now since I graduated high school and am a medical assistant. I have also been a newborn nanny to multiple families. I fell in love the women’s health/OBGYN/labor and delivery when I started as a medical assistant 4 years ago and was a medical assistant for 2 years at a women’s clinic and fell in love with the women’s clinic and got to shadow over 10 births by the midwives and OB’s at the clinic. I am currently applying for nursing school to become a labor and delivery nurse but wanted to be active in this field of work right now, so this is where I decided to become a birth doula. She earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Certificate in Natural Childbirth from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon. A Seattle native, she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon and trained under six naturopathic midwives in Portland, gaining extensive experience in integrative birth care. Dr. Powers provides comprehensive care with a focus on women’s health and midwifery, utilizing modalities such as herbal medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, IV therapy, pelvic floor therapy, and nutrition counseling.
