Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Yael Woods, and I have had the deep honor of serving as a birth, postpartum, fertility, and bereavement doula for the past eight years. In that time, I’ve walked alongside countless families through some of the most sacred and powerful moments of their lives. My work is rooted in a fierce passion for honoring the body’s innate wisdom, supporting the full spectrum of reproductive experiences, and advocating for safer, more respectful care for all birthing people. As a current student midwife, I am continually expanding my clinical knowledge and deepening my commitment to physiological birth and evidence-based care. My mission is to reduce the alarming rates of maternal and infant mortality especially among marginalized communities by providing compassionate, culturally competent, and individualized support before, during, and after birth. I love my job! Supporting parents through labor, birth and postpartum is amazing, and rewarding, and what I feel called to do. I am a birth and postpartum doula, as well as a childbirth educator and a lactation educator. Having an understanding of your options is a big part of preventing birth trauma. Educating parents about how they can better navigate their labor and the medical system is a big part of what I do. I come from the Maya Ch’ortí, Lenca, and Garífuna/Garínagu Indigenous & Afroindigenous peoples of Honduras through my father’s side. I also carry Northwestern European heritage, namely German, Celtic & Norwegian. My birthwork is deeply rooted in my spiritual practice through my Mesoamerican and Afro-Caribbean upbringing. My name is Liza Hameza (Schaefer). I’m a mother of 4, doula, educator, and podcaster who’s spent 15 years studying birth in the fields. What began as a personal story has grown into a lifelong calling. Since then, I’ve supported over 490 births in different birthing settings, guided hundreds of parents through childbirth preparation and the first tender months with their newborns. Alongside modern doula practices, I weave in the wisdom of postpartum traditions I’ve learned in different countries - Belarus, Ukraine, Germany and Cyprus - rituals that honor a mother’s strength and nurture recovery. In addition to my one-on-one work with families, I’m passionate about teaching and mentoring doulas worldwide.
