Nikita has also studied with respected midwives Monika Karaosman at Althea Midwifery in Berlin, MD, and Maureen McIver in Westminster, MD. Nikita Johnson brings over five years of homebirth experience, including three years as a Homebirth Assistant and Student Midwife. Prior to this, she spent six years as a Certified Obstetrics Surgical Technologist, gaining extensive hospital-based labor and delivery experience before retiring from that role. Nikita Wise is a Traditional Apprentice Midwife serving families throughout the Baltimore–Washington region with a deep commitment to culturally centered, respectful, and holistic maternity care. Widely recognized for her dedication to Black and minority families, Nikita has spent over a decade supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with compassion, clinical rigor, and ancestral reverence. Born and raised in Baltimore City, Nikita later relocated to suburban Maryland at age 19, where her personal journey into motherhood profoundly shaped her professional calling. Becoming a mother at 16 with the steadfast support of her married parents, she developed an early passion for maternal health and a determination to serve women during some of life’s most transformative moments. This experience inspired her pursuit of a career in labor and delivery and ultimately midwifery. In 2013, Nikita began her formal clinical training by earning her Nursing Assistant Certification at the Gandhi School in Pikesville, Maryland. She then advanced her medical training at Brown’s Career Institute, where she became both a Patient Care Technician and Certified Phlebotomist. That same year, she entered the field of obstetrics as an OB Surgical Technician at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., completing the hospital’s in-house Surgical Technology Program and receiving extensive on-the-job training in high-acuity maternity care. Over the next five years, Nikita worked across multiple labor and delivery units throughout the DMV, including Sibley Memorial Hospital, The George Washington University Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Providence Hospital, StoneSprings Hospital Center, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. During this time, she gained firsthand experience in operative births, maternal emergencies, and interdisciplinary obstetric care—knowledge that continues to inform her midwifery practice today. In 2019, recognizing the limitations of hospital-based care for families seeking autonomy and holistic support, Nikita transitioned from surgical technology to birthwork as a doula and student midwife. That same year, she founded DMV Birth Doulas, LLC, a full-spectrum doula practice dedicated to empowering families through personalized, evidence-informed, and culturally affirming support. In 2020, Nikita launched The Black Doula Training, LLC, an accessible, low-cost educational program designed to increase diversity in the birthwork profession and prepare aspiring doulas for professional practice. Today, Nikita is the owner of The House of Gloria Fertility & Birth, a sacred, boutique midwifery and fertility practice in Ellicott City, Maryland. Her work blends traditional midwifery principles with modern clinical standards, offering families holistic fertility care, homebirth midwifery, and comprehensive postpartum support. She is particularly known for her dedication to informed consent, physiologic birth, and culturally grounded care that honors Black maternal health and ancestral birth traditions. Nikita remains deeply invested in education, mentorship, and advocacy for maternal health equity. Lauren is a trained postpartum doula certifying with CAPPA and holds a master's degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she researched perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infant feeding, equity & doula care. She also co-chairs the Board of Directors for Postpartum Support International's Maryland Chapter. Most importantly though, she's a mom of 3. She came to this work after a frustrating and painful postpartum experience with her first born when she was a young mom. After birthing her first two children within the traditional OB/GYN hospital system, she decided to have an unmedicated, Midwife-attended home birth with her 3rd. Each birth and postpartum experience taught her something new, and she welcomes all families - no matter their choice of medical care or arrival to parenting - to her doula practice. When she's not busy researching and working with families welcoming new babes, she loves being outside in nature with her family, singing in the car with the windows down, and reading.

My name is Ashley and I am a Professional Birth and Postpartum Doula. I am born and raised in VA and engaged to my high school sweetheart. My hobbies include running outdoors, puzzling, and lounging about with my cat, Sardo 🐈. You’ll often find my nose in a book and a seltzer water in hand. I served as a Domestic Violence Advocate within a nonprofit organization for 5 years—My role encompassed the responsibilities of a Night Resident Manager at an emergency shelter, alongside serving as the Children’s Service Coordinator. My professional duties encompassed the provision of in-person emotional support to families in distress, both on-site and via our 24/7 emergency hotline. My ongoing professional development included participation in continuous training programs, notably in areas such as crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and advocacy. My formative professional experiences include a 5 years of service as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at a home health agency, where I engaged with elderly patients, many of whom faced challenges related to dementia and physical limitations. This period of work significantly contributes to my capacity for caregiving and understanding of complex care needs. Furthermore, I maintain my employment as a cook at a respected vegetarian restaurant, a role I have upheld for twelve years . My proficiency in food preparation and safety protocols plays a pivotal role in ensuring the provision of nourishing meals for individuals seeking postpartum services. Currently I am also contracted with an agency and providing postpartum care, services, and support to families. My historical inclination towards caregiving, advocacy, and the provision of comprehensive physical and emotional support underscores my enduring commitment to these essential facets of service. I recently became a mother in 2020 and to be honest, I didn’t have a great birth experience. Which is pretty normal. Until I learned that it didn’t have to be this way, which inspired my passion for birth work. I want birthing people to be empowered in their births and have the best experience possible. I am also a Lamaze-trained Childbirth Educator, currently in the process of recertification, and I teach childbirth education, newborn care, and infant feeding to help families feel informed and confident as they step into parenthood. Hello Families! My name is Nicole Lobban and I am a certified Postpartum and Infant Care Doula/Newborn Care Specialist. I have been in this field for 11 years, and even before then I have been a Nanny and babysitter. I have a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management and I will graduate in December 2026 with a Masters in Health and Wellness Education. I am truly passionate about caring for infants and making sure that the goals that are set for care are met. I take pride in my work and strive to provide resources and experience to help parents feel more comfortable in the role of caring for their newborn. I have experience working with preemies, multiples, reflux and colicky babies. I am self-motivated and work well alone, but I also work well as a team player with parents to provide care for their new bundle of joy. My specialty is sleep condition, which allows me to come up with a plan to have your baby do longer stretches, and eventually sleep through the night.
