I provide evidence based information to support and educate my clients in prenatal and postpartum stage. We are so grateful for Marissa! I knew from the moment we met she was the doula for our family. Her calm presence and joyful spirit was just what we needed for our pregnancy journey. Our meetings were informative and fun, and we felt so prepared going into labor. Marissa was extremely supportive through the whole process- always checking in to see how we were doing. She was a rockstar through delivery and stayed with us through the night until our daughter was born. I felt confident between her and my husband that I would be taken care of when I was unable to adequately make decisions during labor. On top of that, our two postpartum visits were helpful and honestly just comforting! At the end of our time together, we were sad to say goodbye because Marissa is forever a part of our family!

Susan is absolutely amazing and I would recommend her to anyone! My husband and I had never considered the idea of having a doula for my pregnancy and birth of our son, but then we attended a class that she helped teach. The benefits of having a doula were explained and we instantly knew that we wanted to have one. Susan was so informative, excited about her work and welcoming - we connected with her right away! We loved how involved she was from the very beginning of us deciding to work with her. She met with us to determine if she would be a good fit - which she was! Once we hired her as our doula, we had multiple lunches to discuss our birth preferences and to answer any and all questions we had. During birth and delivery, she helped us determine when contractions were close enough to head to the hospital, she helped me work through the pain, and made us feel safe and prepared. When it was time for me to push, my son had the cord wrapped around and his stats were dropping. Susan, the doctors and the nurses helped keep me calm throughout that and made sure me and baby were safe! Once our son was born, Susan stayed with us to help with skin to skin and with the initial breastfeeding. We were so worried that I would have a traumatic birth, but with Susan by our side that was absolutely NOT the case. If / when we have another baby, we will 1000% have her by our side again - we LOVE her!

Ottavia Turner

6 years of experience

Greetings, families. My name is Ottavia Turner, and I am a full-spectrum birth and postpartum care doula and a traditional midwifery assistant. I support families throughout the entire pregnancy journey, including hands-on support during the labor and birth process, ensuring you feel informed, empowered, and advocated for every step of the way. My services range from birth advocacy, labor support, childbirth education, holistic health practices, postpartum and nanny care, yoga, singing bowl sessions, and homeschool education, and so much more. I became a birth worker after experiencing my own home birth ceremony with my son. It was a deeply magical and transformative experience—one that showed me the power of intentional, supported birth. From that moment on, I knew I was called to support like-minded families in creating a birth experience that aligns with their desires, honors their body, and becomes a memorable and sacred moment for a lifetime.

Recent review

One year ago I had the most life changing experience. I had my dream Home birth experience thanks to Ottavia Turner. Ottavia spent months preparing me for natural birth. Yoga , meditation, breath work and natural birth education classes all the services she offered me. I felt prepared and confident enough to endure natural child birth. During birth I remembered everything we did during our sessions. Hours later my baby boy was born safely at home in our bath tub. I highly recommend her and the services she offers you won’t regret it.

My approach is rooted in compassion, education, and real-life experience. As a mother myself, I understand that no two journeys look the same, and there is no one “right” way to experience birth. Whether you need hands-on support, guidance, or simply someone in your corner, I’m here to help you labor your way.

Recent review

I can’t recommend Alora at Zenlena Partum Care enough! She supported me through my prenatal care, labor, birth, and postpartum journey, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better doula. She helped me prepare for labor, guided me through laboring at home for as long as possible, and kept me feeling calm, informed, and confident every step of the way. She also made sure my partner knew exactly how to support me by teaching him countermeasures, which made such a difference during labor. What stood out most was how much she genuinely cared. Her support didn’t stop after delivery she continued to check in and make sure I was doing well. If you’re looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable, and supportive doula, I highly recommend Alora at Zenlena Partum Care. I would choose her again without hesitation. 10/10!

I cannot say enough good things about Shonna!! This was my first experience with a doula and I highly recommend it for anyone having a child. From the first interaction during my second trimester, until our last interaction post delivery - she has been nothing short of amazing. Shonna was always calm, supportive, reassuring, and ALWAYS saw the positive side of things. She is an expert in this profession and has made my first time with a doula an unforgettable experience. If I decide to have another one, she will be my first choice. Thank you so much Shonna for everything you did to help with the arrival of our baby!!

When my husband and I were seeking a doula, we initially selected Mylah due to the affordability of her services. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that she consistently exceeded the original scope of her responsibilities. She genuinely demonstrates care for her clients, at least that was certainly our experience. Without delving into excessive detail, employing a doula was a crucial decision for support during this pregnancy. I have historically encountered difficulties advocating for myself with various medical professionals, my family, my workplace, and virtually all aspects of my life. I had grown quite weary of these challenges, but Mylah was instrumental in making this entire journey a success for us. She remained steadfast in her support, never dismissing my feelings, and consistently checking in on my husband and me, even inquiring about our son to see how he was adjusting. We dedicated months to crafting the birth plan, and she provided me with videos and feedback on exercises to prepare my body for the approaching day. When circumstances necessitated a medically induced labor, she maintained her composure. Adapting to the situation and providing the stability we needed for a successful unmedicated labor followed by a medicated vaginal birth. It is safe to say that without her, I do not believe I would have mentally navigated this pregnancy well. Previously, although I couldn't articulate it at the time, I experienced the onset of postpartum depression shortly after my son's birth. This time, despite being connected to a continuous infusion of IV medications, experiencing minor bleeding after birth, receiving significantly less support from other sources, and encountering numerous additional challenges, I can joyfully state that I am thriving, not merely surviving. I am uncertain how the remainder of this year will unfold, but I am confident that I will genuinely cherish the memories of my daughter's birth and newborn days. Thank you, Mylah, for helping me positively reframe my previous birth experience. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. To any of my friends or colleagues who may require a doula, I will wholeheartedly recommend your services.

☀️Hey everyone!☀️ 💗My name is Yasmine. I am a certified birth and postpartum doula who’s also completed a birth/ midwives assistant training. 💌I became doula as my love for birth began as a child. I grew up in a large family and loved watching it grow with more babies. When I had my daughter, I was on Medicaid and wanted someone personal to help guide me through birth and labor. I did not know what a doula was exactly at that time. When I got pregnant with my son, I found myself being a doula for friends and mutual friends of mine virtually(due to Covid). It was not until my doula training that I learned Medicaid covers doulas. I then took the steps to become VA state certified and accept VA Medicaid. 🎯My goal is to provide quality, compassionate, empathetic, evidence based support to women who are more likely to get taken advantage of and neglected. As a woman of color, I know what it is like to feel dismissed and talked down to by the birth team/ healthcare system. I want to help you have the tools and confidence in your informed decisions. We are a mother daughter team working together to support families during the transition to life with a new baby. We love that we are able to offer something unique to our in-person clients in the Hampton Roads area and our virtual clients all over the US. I, Laurie Ann, am a certified Postpartum Doula. For more than 20 years I have been passionate about serving moms. My goal is to give the new family the confidence to parent; working myself out of a job. I like to say, don’t doula this alone; women need other women especially after giving birth. As a caring professional, I share techniques, tools, and personalized recommendations, to support families emotionally and physically as they transition to life with a newborn. Dani is a new mom herself with a 3 year old daughter and infant son. She has been able to really connect with our clients because she has recently (and currently) been in their shoes. We are also proud to be up to date on our product and vendor recommendations because we have personally utilized these products and services. We are better together! This is Mothering the Mother in the Fourth Trimester.

With my first child (see above review), I called LAF (Laurie Ann and Dani) in a panic because breastfeeding was off to a dumpster fire start. Due solely to their coaching, my breastfeeding journey quickly turned around. I breastfed my daughter for 10 months and could not have had a better experience – both physically and mentally. When I found out I was pregnant with my second (the day before my daughter’s first birthday) LAF was one of the first to know (because I wanted them on my team again for round 2!) I knew that the second time around would be a bit different because my husband was in the middle of a deployment cycle. He got home from being gone for six weeks one week prior to me giving birth and will leave again (for 7+ months) very soon. I told Laurie Ann and Dani that I not only wanted to start strong with breastfeeding but wanted to build a large storage supply early on so that the pressure was off a bit when he deployed. Six weeks postpartum, I have 750+ ounces of breastmilk stored due to the plan that LAF put in place (in addition to feeding my baby girl who is growing faster than her growth curve!) The Elvie Curve made collecting this much breastmilk possible – this product was not available with my first daughter, and I could not recommend it more! LAF is a MUST if you are a first, second, third+ time mom in the Hampton Roads area. Seriously – I refer to them as my Fairy Godmothers. So incredibly thankful for their mentorship and love!

Hi! My name is Witley Smith! I started my birth doula journey in November of 2024. Ever since I was young I have always loved helping mothers care for their babies. Once I learned about birth doulas I knew that is what I was meant to do! I want to help mamas have a joyous birth experience. I have completed the training for my Birth Doula Certification along with my Lactation Support Certification. I am currently in the process of becoming a DONA International affiliate. I am trained, but I need experience of being the primary Birth Doula in order to complete my application with DONA. I am looking for mamas who are willing to let me serve them, and support them through their beautiful birth. My services will be discounted as I am a new doula looking for experience. I chose the name Serving Dreams Birth Doula Services, because I believe every mother should be served the birth she has always dreamed. No need or want for a mother is too small or frivolous. I want to make my mamas feel comforted, supported, and empowered. My favorite quote that I have learned through my birth doula journey is "You grow the baby you were meant to birth".

Recent review

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Witley. I have known her for years and have seen her mature into a strong, determined and intelligent young woman. She has helped me with all 5 of my children throughout the years. My last child was born 6.5 weeks premature and she was there whenever I needed her help. She is amazing with children of all ages especially newborns. I would highly recommend her knowing the training she has gone through to become a certified birth doula. She would be my choice if I were having anymore children!
