My husband and I had never considered the idea of having a doula for my pregnancy and birth of our son, but then we attended a class that she helped teach. The benefits of having a doula were explained and we instantly knew that we wanted to have one. Susan was so informative, excited about her work and welcoming - we connected with her right away! We loved how involved she was from the very beginning of us deciding to work with her. She met with us to determine if she would be a good fit - which she was! Once we hired her as our doula, we had multiple lunches to discuss our birth preferences and to answer any and all questions we had. During birth and delivery, she helped us determine when contractions were close enough to head to the hospital, she helped me work through the pain, and made us feel safe and prepared. When it was time for me to push, my son had the cord wrapped around and his stats were dropping. Susan, the doctors and the nurses helped keep me calm throughout that and made sure me and baby were safe! Once our son was born, Susan stayed with us to help with skin to skin and with the initial breastfeeding. We were so worried that I would have a traumatic birth, but with Susan by our side that was absolutely NOT the case. If / when we have another baby, we will 1000% have her by our side again - we LOVE her!

When my husband and I were seeking a doula, we initially selected Mylah due to the affordability of her services. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that she consistently exceeded the original scope of her responsibilities. She genuinely demonstrates care for her clients, at least that was certainly our experience. Without delving into excessive detail, employing a doula was a crucial decision for support during this pregnancy. I have historically encountered difficulties advocating for myself with various medical professionals, my family, my workplace, and virtually all aspects of my life. I had grown quite weary of these challenges, but Mylah was instrumental in making this entire journey a success for us. She remained steadfast in her support, never dismissing my feelings, and consistently checking in on my husband and me, even inquiring about our son to see how he was adjusting. We dedicated months to crafting the birth plan, and she provided me with videos and feedback on exercises to prepare my body for the approaching day. When circumstances necessitated a medically induced labor, she maintained her composure. Adapting to the situation and providing the stability we needed for a successful unmedicated labor followed by a medicated vaginal birth. It is safe to say that without her, I do not believe I would have mentally navigated this pregnancy well. Previously, although I couldn't articulate it at the time, I experienced the onset of postpartum depression shortly after my son's birth. This time, despite being connected to a continuous infusion of IV medications, experiencing minor bleeding after birth, receiving significantly less support from other sources, and encountering numerous additional challenges, I can joyfully state that I am thriving, not merely surviving. I am uncertain how the remainder of this year will unfold, but I am confident that I will genuinely cherish the memories of my daughter's birth and newborn days. Thank you, Mylah, for helping me positively reframe my previous birth experience. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. With my first child (see above review), I called LAF (Laurie Ann and Dani) in a panic because breastfeeding was off to a dumpster fire start. Due solely to their coaching, my breastfeeding journey quickly turned around. I breastfed my daughter for 10 months and could not have had a better experience – both physically and mentally. When I found out I was pregnant with my second (the day before my daughter’s first birthday) LAF was one of the first to know (because I wanted them on my team again for round 2!) I knew that the second time around would be a bit different because my husband was in the middle of a deployment cycle. He got home from being gone for six weeks one week prior to me giving birth and will leave again (for 7+ months) very soon. I told Laurie Ann and Dani that I not only wanted to start strong with breastfeeding but wanted to build a large storage supply early on so that the pressure was off a bit when he deployed. Six weeks postpartum, I have 750+ ounces of breastmilk stored due to the plan that LAF put in place (in addition to feeding my baby girl who is growing faster than her growth curve!) The Elvie Curve made collecting this much breastmilk possible – this product was not available with my first daughter, and I could not recommend it more! LAF is a MUST if you are a first, second, third+ time mom in the Hampton Roads area. Seriously – I refer to them as my Fairy Godmothers. So incredibly thankful for their mentorship and love!
