I am Isamarys Medina Rivera, a birth and postpartum doula. I was living in Puerto Rico, until my age of 21. I am the youngest daughter of a family of four, composed of a geriatric nurse mom, one older sister and a brick mason dad. Since the beginning of my life, I’ve always had a passion for a career in maternity fields. When I moved to Virginia, I decided that it was time to embrace that passion, especially being surrounded by Hispanic moms who feel vulnerable, because of the language barrier, as well as overwhelming emotions. My desire to become a support for women grows every time I meet single moms and Hispanic families. The best way for me to become that support was to become a Doula. Inspired and motivated by this passion, I took the Birth and Postpartum Doula training with DONA International. After that I created my business, Amarys Doula, Child of the moon. As a Hispanic military wife, I know how hard can be. And by experience, I know how hard it can be to give birth and have a healthy postpartum, when your military partner is not around. That is why I am always looking to assist military families. After I took the training for Birth and Postpartum Doula, I added a placenta encapsulation services, because I believe it is important for my clients to be able to benefit from their own nutrients available in their placenta, such as iron, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus, to help them regain their strength and give them a piece of art that their bodies bodies created.
