I’m Riley, the doula behind Root and Vine. This work is my calling — rooted in a deep respect for the strength and sacrifice of women, the transformation of birth, and the sacredness of new life. I’m a birth and postpartum doula, trained through DONA, and support families across the DFW metroplex with compassion, evidence-based knowledge, calm presence, and a deep trust in the process of labor. I am an English teacher of seven years and my husband and I have one son. My path to birth doula work began with my own birth experience; having a doula during my pregnancy was so helpful to me and made me feel much more knowledgeable and in control of my birth. Unfortunately, the birth of my son did not go as planned for many reasons: my doula could not attend my birth, I preeclampsia complications, and my son was in a breech position. Birth is a transformation, but it can also come with trauma. My experience compelled me to become a doula to hopefully help other women have better birth experiences than I did. I’m also passionate about postpartum care; in the time after giving birth, I felt vulnerable and, although I had endured a major physical and emotional event, I was not often the focus or concern. Even amidst so much joy and love for my son, people quickly begin asking about the baby and forget to ask about the new parent. I want to be the doula that I wish I could have had! The role of postpartum doula is to mother the mother, to educate and encourage new parents, and ensure the new family is thriving together. My love of caregiving and my passion of supporting other mothers is combined in the role of postpartum doula.

Genicia Battle

2 years of experience

My name is Genicia Battle, known in the Ifá community as Ifáfúnké Àṣọre. I am a Full Circle Doula and Birth Companion, trained through the SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Training. A program rooted in the cultural, historical, and spiritual traditions of African American midwifery and birth work. I became a doula because every birthing person deserves to feel seen, supported, and spiritually connected throughout their journey. I know the difference it makes to birth in a space that feels warm, honoring, and sacred. My vision is to offer families not only emotional and spiritual support, but also culturally rooted healing tools that nurture the womb, body, and soul. Birth is not just a moment! It is a portal! My purpose is to ensure that every mother steps through it feeling whole, powerful, and profoundly connected to her divine nature.

Recent review

I talked to Genicia and explained how I was feeling. The back story is...I had a really bad headache. One of those headaches that affects not just your head but every part of your face and the back of your neck. It would not go away, and it was very painful. Shortly then I remembered that Genicia gave me a tea bag of her Simmer Down nerve tea for days like this. When I had her tea, my headache started to calm down. I was no longer in pain. If you ever experience a headache like this, I suggest getting in a comfy spot and having a cup of her Simmer Down nerve tea and watch how it works.

Hello! I’m so glad you’re “here.” ◡̈ My name is Holly, and I’m a full spectrum doula serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area 🤍 I’m currently pursuing certification with Birthing Advocacy and looking for my first clients! I owe my fascination with pregnancy and birth to my mom, who was always open about her birth experiences—both medicated and unmedicated. I’ve loved babies for as long as I can remember and naturally stepped into a caregiving role as the oldest of three. In college, I did research on improving maternal and infant birth outcomes, which sparked my interest in becoming a doula. I’m pro-LGBTQ+, pro-choice, anti-racist, and body neutral, so come exactly as you are! I strive to offer trauma-informed, personalized support for ALL. My work exists within systems that have long excluded and harmed marginalized communities, and I aim to use my privilege for good—advocating for equity, uplifting others, and amplifying their voices. Accompliceship is a lifelong practice, and I’m committed to showing up with compassion, humility, and a willingness to grow. If you’re in search of a doula and curious if we’d be a good match, I’d love to chat with you! 🕊️ Here are a few more facts about me: ❋ I have a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a certificate in Trauma-Informed Care from the University of North Texas. ❋ I’m engaged to my high school sweetheart, and we have two sweet boy kitties: Apollo and Spectre. ❋ I love baking for my loved ones! I hope to one day share homemade treats and nourishing foods with the families I support as well. ❋ I’m a Virgo sun, Libra moon, & Capricorn rising. Also an enneagram 6!
