My birth didn’t start as planned, I had to go in for high blood pressure and called Jamie as they were letting me know they were inducing me. She was an awesome resource as I went through each decision, she was a sounding board and a wealth of knowledge on what each decision was and what my options were. Her direction through my midwife’s options allowed me to have the most natural induction possible, and kickstarted my labor in a way that enabled me to carry on with a natural birth. When she came to the hospital room I felt a deep relief knowing she was there to help me as things progressed, but the most impressive thing for me was how her knowledge and gentle spirit put the nurses and midwife at ease to where they felt very comfortable letting us have the room and simply offering assistance. We all defaulted to Jamie, and she consulted and worked with the whole team to bring about my best birth experience. She was gentle and firm when needed and continued to be a support and resource for me after birth. My labor and delivery would not have been the sweet memory it was without her!

Annie was an incredible support before, during, and after my birth! She met with my husband and I several times before my birth and ensured that we had the opportunity to share our desires and vision for the birth experience. She was the first member of my birth team we called when I went into labor and she came to our house promptly even though it was the middle of the night. From the minute she answered the phone I felt her calm and steady support. Once she arrived, she immediately jumped into action to support me with both verbal affirmations and hands-on work like hip squeezes and reminders to keep my muscles relaxed. She also encouraged my husband in his support of me and deftly gave him suggestions when he was unsure. (As this was our first baby, this was very reassuring for him, as neither he nor I had experienced birth before.) All throughout my long labor, Annie remained a stable, reassuring presence who helped me stay in the zone and always affirmed that I was strong and capable and was going to meet my baby soon! She and my husband were extremely hands on through the end of my pushing phase. Annie helped me get into different positions and used strategies to help me push more effectively. After my baby was born, Annie helped me to recover and clean up. She made me feel strong and beautiful as I came back to myself following birth. Throughout the whole birth, Annie was a great support and presence in encouraging me and jumping in without hesitation to help in whatever way she could. I highly recommend her as a doula!

What I really appreciated about Sydney is how real and honest she is. She doesn’t sugarcoat things just to keep you comfortable—she tells you the truth and gives you all the facts, which is so important when planning your birth. Her straightforward approach helped me feel empowered to make informed decisions and commit to my plan for an unmedicated birth. After my previous experience with interventions that led to an unnecessary C-section, I was determined to do things differently this time. Sydney was super responsive to all my questions throughout my pregnancy, which really calmed my nerves. When the big day finally came, Sydney was a total rockstar! Her presence was empowering, and I felt like I could really go for it. After the birth, she came for a home visit, which was such a sweet touch. LaDereka was and has continued to be our emotional and healthcare question support through pregnancy as a teacher (daddy boot camp), doula and newborn care specialist. She was key to helping us understand our options and what to expect when my pregnancy went from normal and healthy to a diagnosis of gestational hypertension with bed rest at 34 weeks. LaDereka helped us rewrite our birth preferences to accommodate an induction at 37 weeks and led us through the different interventions and natural options we could try before agreeing to an intervention. LaDereka remained by our side through out the labor process as a trusted guide and second opinion with which to weigh the nurse and doctor’s suggestions and feedback. It was great to be able to ask questions and understand the process even when our nurse was attending to other patients. Although we ended up delivering our happy and healthy baby girl via caesarean, I know we tried everything we could have for a natural birth. As our newborn care specialist LaDereka was there on night 1 to ease our transition from hospital to home. Dad is getting to sleep through the night and takes over when her shift ends in the morning and mom is enjoying 8+ hours of sleep each night (with pumping mixed in!). Not only has LaDereka’s care of our newborn allowed us to prioritize sleep and my recovery, she’s a wonderful resource for lactation and all things baby care.
