Hope Balfa

3 years of experience

Hi, I’m Hope Balfa, MSW, CLC — a certified life coach, birth doula, Master's-level Social Worker, and mother of two based in Waco, Texas. Through my practice, Liminal Light, I support women and birthing people through life’s most sacred transitions — from pregnancy and birth to postpartum and parenting. My approach blends my social work education, trauma-informed care, and holistic coaching to nurture the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. I believe birth is not something we simply get through — it’s something we grow through. My goal is to help you feel grounded, informed, and empowered as you bring life into the world. Whether your birth unfolds at home, in a hospital, or in a birth center, I’m here to help you feel safe, seen, and supported every step of the way.

Recent review

My name is Miriam and I first met Hope in our Intro to Social Work class
in Spring of 2010. Just from what she shared in class and with me, and
how she lived her life, the things she was passionate about, and the
people she spoke up for, I sensed that I could trust her. I am now a
Licensed Clinical Social Worker and confidently affirm that Hope is a
huge asset to any support team because her heart and soul are all in
no matter what she does. She believes in people and calls out their
strengths even when they can’t see it. Hope offered to be part of my birth team with my first daughter and I
happily said yes! I was in early labor for 3 days and was scheduled to
be induced on a Saturday (January 12, 2018). I came to the hospital
that day in fear of what induction could mean. Would things just
snowball? Would I need to end up having a C-section?
Contractions/early labor hard started Wednesday and Hope helped
me get through those hard 3 days before my baby arrived.
Contractions would get worse at night, and became so unbearable
that I could not sleep. I was going on 3 days of little to no sleep and
Hope would stay up with me, coach me through contractions, coach
me on what to do - get on the ball, take a warm bath, breathe. During the hardest time for me mentally she was there coaching me
through it. On the day of delivery my water was supposed to be
broken, but it broke on its own as I was getting on the bed for my OB to
do it. I labored all day and Pitocin was introduced later in the evening
when I was not advancing. I was tired and we said yes. At this point I
had been laboring for 4 days and I wanted her to come. Hope knew
what to do. She helped create a calm atmosphere in our room. We
had calming essential oils going, music that meant something to me,
she was there coaching me through breaths, applying pressure on my
back that was the best relief I could ask for with back labor, rubbed my
arms through the contractions and at times sensed what I needed
without me having to ask mid contraction. At one point I started trembling when lying on the bed with a peanut
ball between my legs. Hope stayed close and spoke calmly to me. It
helped me stay calm and focus on contractions even though my body
was shaking uncontrollably. My baby arrived later on, but Hope stayed
through all of it. She was the support person I needed in that room.
When our baby came out she even snapped photos which I treasure
dearly. Hope went above and beyond to make me feel at peace and
empowered to have my baby on my own terms. Our second daughter Camila was born during the pandemic (August
22, 2020). Hope had volunteered her time to be there again with my
second baby as the faithful friend she is. Then COVID restrictions came
and we could have no one in our room. My mind was feeling
overwhelmed. The day I knew she was coming because my
contractions started feeling painful while nursing my toddler. I was
getting aggravated just nursing her and knew something was going to
happen today. We went to the hospital with the intention of staying
there and having the baby. I was not going to do multiple days of labor
again. Camila came that day 6 hours after I went to the hospital. During those 6 hours and before, Hope had given us her care package
with affirmations, her birth ball and all the necessities that helped me
last time. I birthed with my husband and he was the best support
person, but it didn’t feel the same this time. I didn’t have my mom. I
didn’t have Hope. Hope added such a calming and supportive
presence the previous time. She advocated for what I needed and I
was missing that. She anticipated what I needed and it was a relief to
not have to think and ask for those things during contractions. This time
it was different. Hope couldn’t be in the room and I was feeling that. Contractions felt
harder. I felt tense. I felt like I couldn’t concentrate. I had this mental
block because my other support people I felt I really needed weren’t
here. I would tense my body and anticipate each contraction with fear.
Previously I was in my zone because I knew all my people had my back. I
needed all of them and not having them physically there made me feel
less than peaceful. Towards the end I had my husband Richard call Hope and she talked
me through contractions and lifted my spirit. She gave me a pep talk
and I don’t know what she said, but it helped me get in the mindset to
have this baby. I went from fear to determination after talking to Hope.
Our baby was born less than an hour later, and I give so much credit to
Hope for mentally helping me through a really hard experience. Although my labor was way shorter, it felt more painful and my mindset
made all the difference. While I was stuck in fear it felt more painful. After
talking to Hope, I knew what I needed to do and something shifted. I will
forever be grateful for her and the peace she brings to a delivery room
in person and virtually. My girls are here and we’re all healthy, and
Hope had lots to do with that. Miriam Hernandez, LCSW Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Carmen Johnson

I’m Carmen, a birth and postpartum doula living in Arlington, TX with my husband and two daughters. Birth work and bringing more humanity to maternity care in the U.S. has been a passion of mine since I first began my motherhood journey over ten years ago. Now more than ever, doulas play a critical role in helping ensure positive birth and postpartum outcomes for all birthing persons, where they feel empowered and fully supported in every scenario. I look forward to nurturing and supporting you throughout your birth and postpartum journey and beyond.

I truly cannot imagine my birth experience without Carmen! Hiring her was hands down one of the best decisions I made. From pregnancy through postpartum, she cared for me in a way that felt both professional and deeply personal. During pregnancy, she checked in often, answered my questions with patience, and helped me feel calm and prepared instead of anxious and overwhelmed. During labor, she was steady, grounded, and completely tuned in to me. She basically took the lead on positioning me and guiding my movements in the hospital. She was constantly adjusting me into thoughtful, intentional positions that helped my labor progress and the nurses were following her suggestions. That gave me so much confidence. I didn’t have to think. I didn’t have to manage anything. I could just focus on resting and trusting the process because she was fully present and advocating for what my body needed!! And then postpartum… she didn’t disappear. She showed up. She nurtured. She cared. She even made the most amazing dinner for my family that we all enjoyed which, as a newly postpartum mom, felt like the biggest gift!! It wasn’t just about birth support. It was about being mothered while I was becoming a mother again. If you are looking for someone who is knowledgeable, calm, non-judgmental, and truly in your corner no matter what your birth looks like she is that person. I felt safe and supported, and TRULY nurtured every step of the way. I’m so grateful for her!!!🤍

Kyndall Campbell

Hi, I’m Kyn! I’m a Christian birth doula based in Dallas, TX, certified since 2020. I’m passionate about supporting new parents through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. My specialty is childbirth education & birth plan preparation—helping parents navigate labor with knowledge and confidence so they can create a positive birth experience, no matter the circumstances. As a mother myself, I understand that birth doesn’t always go as planned. But with the right preparation and education, you can stay in control and trust the process. Your breath and your body are powerful guides, and I’m here to support you as you welcome your baby with confidence and peace.

Recent review

I met Kyndall by chance while shopping at an organic wellness shop and within a few moments into our conversation, I knew that when my husband and I decided to start having kids, she would be my doula. As soon-to-be first-time parents, we had a lot of questions, concerns, and even some fear surrounding the birthing process, but Kyndall’s calm presence, words of affirmation, deep knowledge and understanding, helped put us at ease. During my laboring process, Kyndall’s unwavering support and reassurance guided me throughout one of the most intense moments I ever experienced. Thanks to Kyndall, I felt heard, seen, confident, and empowered to deliver our baby girl into the world. From providing me with yoga poses and breathing exercises to help me with my labor and delivery, to countless check-ins to see how the new parents were doing postpartum, Kyndall has been and continues to be a light in our lives- four years and two beautiful babies later! Kyndall is the best doula with a heart of gold and we are endlessly grateful for her support and genuine care.

Kaitlyn Rosenbarker

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn Rosenbarker, and I am a wife, mother, and certified Birth Doula located in the College Station, TX area. I am extremely passionate about walking with families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My goal is to take away the uncertainty of the unknown so you can have a joyful and peaceful pregnant and postpartum season. Birth is such an amazing experience, and I want to help you enjoy it!

Recent review

Hire Kaitlyn as your doula! She supported me through my third full term labor after a previous loss. Due to that and plenty of other curve balls before and during the labor, it was ✨rough✨. I can’t express my gratitude for Kaitlyn’s support enough. She helped me navigate a confusing early labor experience and took time out of her schedule to visit me and see how I was doing for herself. During. The labor, I had a hard time expressing what I needed, and I felt like she had it figured out before me. If something wasn’t working and I said that, she immediately switched gears. At one point when an emotional block was suspected of stalling the labor, she spoke such encouraging words that helped me feel seen and understood. She also took the time to check in with my husband and make sure he was okay after the labor experience as well. She also got pictures and videos even though everything was so intense I hadn’t been able to request that. Seeing what the labor looked like from the outside helped me conflate it with the internal experience. Instead of just feeling like a wild animal out of control, I was able to see both perspectives and come to the conclusion that I am one tough cookie. 10/10 can’t recommend enough. She also hand fed me snacks while my midwives handled my postpartum care and I was holding my new baby on my chest.

LaVerne Reid

9 years of experience

Hi, I'm LaVerne, also known as the Baby Whisperer and I've been a doula for almost ten years. My work centers on creating a calm, nurturing environment where families can truly thrive during pregnancy, birth, and those busy early weeks. I support mothers through the full spectrum of their journey, from birth preparation and labor support to postpartum recovery, both mentally, emotionally, and physically. During birth, I serve as a steady presence, offering comfort measures, encouragement, and advocacy so you can have the empowering experience you envision. In the postpartum period, I'm deeply attuned to babies' cues, cries, and signals, and I provide hands-on care including household tasks, feeding, diapering, bathing, sleep coaching, & meal prep for mom. I also manage The Retreat at MILK Maternity in The Woodlands.

Recent review

LaVerne is a treasure! I call her the baby whisperer because she is so attuned to babies and good at meeting their needs. I half joke (and am half serious) that families should fight over the chance to work with her. We only worked with her for two weeks, a short amount of time, but in that period she was able to transform our baby’s quality of life - she flagged that he most likely had a dietary intolerance and that he seemed to be in pain while lying flat. I spoke to his doctor and after I cut dairy and soy from my diet and we started him on reflux medication, it was like having a whole different baby - he was so much happier and more comfortable. She was extremely attuned to him and his needs and very gentle with soothing. She was proactive and fit into our household routine, for example she would refill my water or organize the baby clothes without being asked. She went above and beyond in caring for our baby and helped to resolve a diaper rash that had been ongoing for weeks. She was very professional, prompt, supportive, and cared for my baby as if he were her own. I will forever be grateful for her attention to our baby’s needs and advocacy on his behalf that helped us make changes so he wouldn’t have to be constantly uncomfortable and in pain. Our entire extended family of parents and grandparents noticed how gifted LaVerne is with babies and how well my son did under her care. She has my highest recommendation without reservations for other families.

Hey there! My name is Julie Davidson and I am a professionally certified birth doula, chidlbirth educator, and virtual birth coach. I live in The Colony, TX with my son Elliot, my husband Dennis, and our giant dog Franklin. My love for birth was born during my pregnancy with Elliot. I was always totally scared of labor, but after hiring a doula and diving into my own education and research... my fear turned into faith. As I learned how beautiful pregnancy and birth can be + how different your experience can be if you are educated and informed + how much you really are in control of... it all became less scary. I knew pretty much immediately that I wanted to be a guide and support to other moms on this journey. I have worked dozens of families and seeing them welcome their baby into this world with strength and bravery NEVER gets old. I'd love to support you! Send me a DM, text or email and we'll hop on a free discovery call to see if we'd be a good fit :)

Recent review

Julie stepped into our lives as an overnight postpartum doula during a stressful season of postpartum recovery. We had medical complications with the birth that required mom to be on modified bedrest and the timeline of healing was unknown. Julie handled the chaos of an unknown recovery and a newborn with grace and understanding. She ensured mom was able to get rest at night, all while keeping baby safe and assisting with light household chores. Julie was/is an essential part of postpartum recovery. We consider her like family.

Jordan Towns

2 years of experience

My name is Jordan Towns and I have served the role as an Emotional Support Coach/Companion for over two decades to women and men encountering a full range of life encounters. It was in Spring 2023 that my journey to become a Doula was initiated and what a journey indeed it has been. Marked by my strong ancestral roots and divine gifting coupled with an experience that allowed me to grow deeper in tune with my body as a woman and what it means to be empowered and supported in my connection to it, I moved to become a Birth Doula and completed my formal training with Doulas of North America International in the “Art of Labor Support.” Now I have the honor of providing continuous, culturally appropriate support, non-medical advice, and physical comfort coaching to women and their partners during pregnancy, the birth ceremony, and the adjustment period after. It is this support that is critical to counter systemic medical racism and socioeconomic barriers that families face. I am currently offering to women who would like to birth at home donation-based services.

Recent review

Jordan was an absolute amazing support person. She listened to what my wants and needs were. Jordan was open and understanding of my wants and through conversations she recalled details I mentioned. She reassured me as I was going through the labor process and even made me feel extremely comfortable and confident. I honestly can’t say enough about her to describe how amazing she was and how smooth she made the process. Very professional and at the same time humble. I highly recommend her! 100/10

I would be honored to walk beside you as your little one makes their way into this world. Let’s bloom through birth & postpartum—together.

Recent review

We had the pleasure of having Taylor as our Doula for our first born! Taylor was both supportive & provided essential childbirth education prior to my wife being in labor. This helped us know what to expect & what red flags to look out for. During labor, we truly do not know how we would’ve done it with out her. When labor began to intensify she stepped into action to make sure my wife was as comfortable as possible through different stretches, massages, and comforting words. Over the past few months Taylor was more than a doula, she truly felt as part of the family and felt like a critical part of our birthing team at the hospital. I couldn’t recommend her more and we plan on using her for all our future births!
