I believe every birthing person should have the right to a trauma free birth experience, where their beliefs, values and goals are heard and respected. Birthing bodies are powerful. My goal as a doula is to remind you of the power you hold. I have worked in the medical field for 13 years as a Certified Medical Assistant, Lead Medical Assistant Instructor, recently completed my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and gained Certification as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. I am a very motivated and determined person. As a dedicated mother and proud African American woman, my heart is deeply rooted in the wellbeing of our community. The glaring disparities in maternal health that disproportionately affect women of color are not just statistics to me; they are urgent calls to action that resonate with my own experiences and those of my loved ones. I am committed to leveraging my knowledge, resources, and voice to initiate and support sustainable changes within the healthcare system. My goal is to ensure that equitable, high-quality maternal care is not a privilege, but a standard afforded to all mothers, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Through community outreach, advocacy, and education, I strive to contribute to a world where maternal mortality in underserved communities is not a grim expectation but a rare exception. My mission is to fight for a future where every mother’s life is given the value it unequivocally deserves.

My role as a newborn care specialist and postpartum doula is to support parents and provide nurturing, responsive care to infants in their first 4 months of life (age adjusted.) I offer evidence-based care and resources, and help set realistic expectations for those early days with a newborn (or multiple babies.) It’s an honor to help you become more confident in yourself, help you get the rest you need, and support your goals for your family’s life. Whether your priority is setting routines, stretching sleep durations, maximizing your milk supply, or learning the basics of baby care - I’m here to respectfully partner with you along the way. In time, you’ll believe that you know your baby best and you’re what they need the most. Services offered include daytime or overnight newborn care, postpartum support, lactation education, parent instruction on infant safety, developmental milestones, hygiene, sleep shaping, feeding, infant routines, nursery set-up, and recognizing the signs of postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (this is strictly educational.) While I encourage self monitoring and action planning for postpartum mood disorders as early as possible, I do not diagnose or treat any conditions. I am not a licensed medical professional. On a case-by-case basis, I offer sleep coaching (through video, phone call, or in-person consultations), and sleep training (in-person support for no more than 4 nights/days only if an infant is at least 5 months old, and at least 8 hours per night.) Sleep conditioning (in which I support your family in setting a healthy sleep foundation and form sustainable routines) is a complimentary part of my NCS services. In many cases, more rigorous “sleep training” is not necessarily needed. I’m a Safe Sleep Ambassador trained through Cribs for Kids. Please be advised that I strictly adhere to the American Academy of Pediatrics Safe Sleep Recommendations while babies are in my care: this includes placing baby to sleep alone, on their back - on a firm, flat sleep surface that is free of objects - in a crib/pack n’ play/bassinet without bumpers, blankets, pacifier clips, or toys. I support all types of families that follow various traditions, practices, and philosophies without judgement. As a professional and non-family member, it’s especially important I model and adhere to AAP recommendations and evidence-based practices during the time I work.

Kayla is an amazing doula who helped with our newborn twins girls for 5 months. She came 3 nights a week and by the end of the contract the babies were sleeping through the night!! The whole experience was so much better than I even imagined. I was so terrified of sleepless nights with twins while also taking care of our 3 year old during the day. Kayla supported us through all of it, and I cannot be more thankful.

Klarity is a healer in the traditional sense of the word. Thanks to their caring questions and intuition, they deeply understood my husband and me and tailored our birthing classes and hypnotherapy sessions accordingly. Not only did they prepare us for birth, but for parenting itself. Thanks to our work together, I had the calm, empowered birth I hoped for. They were the best doula we could have asked for! In addition to their technical skill and training as a doula, they are also a gifted energy worker. Time after time, they helped us shift energy into more positive, value-driven directions, in the birthing classes as well as in the delivery room. In Klarity’s hands you will experience deep care and wise advocacy.

I am a full-spectrum doula trained by Doula Trainings International (DTI) and hold a Bachelor's degree from San Jose State University. After experiencing the challenges new parents face firsthand with the arrival of my own two children, I dedicated myself to improving support for families during this transformative time. I firmly believe in the power of community, as captured by the phrase “it takes a village.” I am committed to being that supportive presence for your family, guiding you through every aspect of the birth, labor, and postpartum experience.

Recent review

Sarah was an unwavering source of support during one of the most physically and emotionally challenging experiences of my life. After choosing to have an at-home abortion, I found myself in the hospital due to unmanageable pain and later faced complications and prolonged bleeding for over two months. Through it all, Sarah was there—offering not just physical comfort, but deep emotional and mental support. She provided reassurance when I felt scared, advocated for me when I felt unheard, and helped me navigate the overwhelming aftermath with patience and compassion. Her presence was a lifeline, creating a safe space where I could process my emotions without judgment. Whether it was through gentle encouragement, grounding techniques, or simply holding space for my emotions, Sarah made sure I never felt alone in my healing process. I am beyond grateful for her kindness, knowledge, and unwavering care during such a difficult time.

My path to postpartum work began with my own experience as a new mother of twins. I know firsthand what it means to be undone by those early weeks — the exhaustion, the emotion, the strange beauty of it — and I know what a difference it makes to have someone steady beside you. That's what I'm here to offer. For most of human history, new mothers were surrounded by community support for weeks after birth. That's no longer the norm — but it doesn't mean the need has gone away. It just means most families are navigating this time without the help they were always meant to have. My approach is relational, responsive and practical. I bring genuine care, capable hands-on support, and a deep reverence for this time in your life. I believe the postpartum weeks deserve to be more than just survived. With the right support around you, they can be something you look back on with real tenderness. That's what I want for you! I'm a certified postpartum doula trained through Cornerstone Birthwork, a twin mom of 6-year-olds, and someone who finds meaning in the everyday practices that sustain life — good food, unhurried presence, and a little humor when it's needed.

It is with great joy that I recommend our postpartum doula, Kelly Franson, www.daymoondoula.com. We hired Kelly to support our family for three months postpartum as we navigated life with our second child. Kelly began her work with us the day we came home from the hospital. We walked into a home full of flowers, homemade tea blends, beautiful snacks, warm porridge on the stove, and a bedroom prepared for rest and care. Over the days and weeks, Kelly became my companion; she listened as I processed my birth, navigated breastfeeding challenges, and learned how to care for both a toddler and a newborn. I was fragile, and she was steady. She is a creative thinker, helping two sleep-deprived parents find more ease in our home, whether through practical support (how to set up our space more effectively) or more nuanced guidance (how to support our toddler through such a significant transition with the arrival of a new sibling). Other words that come to mind when I think of Kelly are patient, warm, present, reliable, wise, and funny. What better qualities to have alongside you in the postpartum period? With her, I was not alone. Because I now have two postpartum experiences to draw from—one without Kelly, and one (thankfully) with—I can clearly see the tremendous value she brings to the intense and beautiful fourth trimester. Please message me if you have any questions!

✨ Hi friends! I’m Jess (she/her) — a queer birth & postpartum doula based in the Bay Area. I grew up around birth and babies (shoutout to my nurse mom!) and fell in love with supporting new parents early on. After seeing so many of my friends navigate birth and postpartum without the support they deserved and needed, I knew this was the work I was meant to do. I offer care that’s supportive, inclusive, and centered on you—your values, your vision, and your unique journey into parenthood. If you’re pregnant, postpartum, or just dreaming about building your family someday, I’d love to support you. 💛

We were so lucky to connect with Jess through the Birth Companions when looking for doulas in our area who worked with our insurance. After our initial call with Jess, we felt energized and educated and grateful she had availability to work with us. Our early sessions were so informative. Jess made sure to answer all our questions and also prompted helpful reflection and discussion about birth planning that we hadn't yet considered. She previewed for us what the labor process might include and simultaneously assured us that she would be there to help navigate the hospital since you can't plan for everything. She gave us videos and literature, so we felt all the information we accessible and evidence based. When I went into labor, Jess was there at the wee hours of the morning and cheered me on the whole time. She helped with communication and advocacy (I wanted an unmedicated labor), supported my partner to participate (he caught the baby), and stayed with us as we got cleaned up and settles in postpartum. As first time parents, her calm confidence and converation was such a gift! I wholeheartedly hope every birthing parent gets a champion like Jess (or better yet...Jess!!) with them as they navigate the exhausting and amazing process of welcoming a baby.
