My journey in birth work started at age 12, when I had the unique experience of catching my little sister. At age 22, I started my work as a volunteer doula in Vermont, serving members in the community who lacked support. My early volunteer work gave me a deep understanding of how hospitals function, and how to work with medical staff towards the best possible outcomes for parent and child. In 2023, I was trained and certified through DONA, with mentorship by Penny Bussell Stansfield and Dr. Teri Nava-Anderson. Having been through two training programs has given me a diverse range of strategies to draw upon in our prenatal planning sessions and during your labor and birth! I have been honored to participate in many birth stories, each with unique circumstances and goals. I have experience supporting medicated and unmedicated vaginal births, scheduled and emergent Cesarean births with first, second, and fourth-time parents, queer parents, low-income parents, autistic parents, non-native English-speaking parents, sexual assault survivors, people with depression, and parents of color. I used to be a nurse in Brazil for 16 years. I would like to proceed in this area because I have always enjoyed working with prenatal and natal stages, including babies aged 0-6 months in the hospital. I decided to concentrate more on being a doula since it encompasses more of what I love to do. I have worked as a combination of an at-home nurse and post-birth baby care for mothers fresh out of the hospital. I have been a newborn specialist/postpartum double for 20 years, and I've cared for twins from anywhere in the peninsula, from Sunnyvale to San Francisco. I cared for a couple of babies in Oakland, but I preferred to stay on this side of the bay. I usually go into the homes when mom come from from the hospital that night around 10 pm and take over the caring for the newborn until 6 am (of course this is in general but the times it's up to the family). I usually feed baby every 2.5 - 3 hours, change diapers, burped and soothe baby back to sleep. I could do the baby's laundry if the family needs me to, and wash, sterilized the the bottles or washed. I tidy up in the nursery if we used the nursery before I go home in the morning. I do help the mom by bringing the pump and set by the door to her room so she can pump at night.
