I’m Gabriela, a certified Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist with training through Doula Network Training and Summer Sleep Secrets. I’m CPR certified and trilingual (English, Portuguese & Spanish). I have over 6 years of experience in childcare and early childhood education, and in recent years I’ve focused my work on newborn and postpartum care — because I believe parents, especially mothers, deserve dedicated recovery time, support, and practical help to truly enjoy this unique beggining of a new life. I’m based in Southern California, mainly serving families in Orange County, but I also provide services in Los Angeles and San Diego.

I live in OC with my three amazing children! If I’m not at a birth, you will find us at the beach surfing, playing, and enjoying the outdoors. I fell in love with all things birth when I became pregnant with my 1st child in 2008. As an avid reader and researcher, I made it my goal to learn everything I possibly could about the biology and physiology of birth, and how to have optimal health during and after pregnancy for both me and my baby. Like many first-time moms I have worked with, I had hesitations about giving birth to my 1st baby outside of a hospital setting. After all my research, classes, and conversations with midwives, I gained confidence in aiming for an unmedicated birthing experience. I found some lovely midwifes who had a midwifery ward in a hospital and gave birth to my 1st son unmedicated. Twenty-four hours of intense back labor from a posterior-positioned baby …but, I did it! My body actually did it! After birthing my first, statistically knowing it was the most challenging and longest labor, gave me confidence to choose home births for my second and third children. I had a successful home water birth with my second child and wanted to repeat that with my third. However, while laboring on the toilet with him, I suddenly dropped to my knees when he began to crown, and he became known as my bathroom floor “butter birth” baby :). Though I chose unmedicated births for myself, I do know it is not for everyone, which is more than OK! I quickly learned from my role as a doula that every woman’s body, medical history, and background are uniquely different. Many factors play into choosing the right birth for you. I am here to come alongside you, help you make an informed decision, and then support you every step of the way. I offer very personable and compassionate care. My approach is non-agenda-based, trauma-informed, and holistic-minded. No matter your history or past experiences, I am here to be a safe place for you. I will help educate, support, and advocate for you and your personal wishes. hi! i was birthed into a mother 9 years ago and had an exceptional experience with a midwife & doula at a birthing center. it changed my life forever. after that, i became super passionate with educating women on their options for prenatal, labor, and postpartum. i created a guidebook for each and took a doula certification course during covid, so it was a weekend course and virtual. i still have my books to this day! i’m from a small town in south carolina where doula wasn’t widely known. i’ve helped friends along the way and am seeking to fulfill my passions in this realm here in orange county! i am a freelance artist as well specializing in many mediums. i’m so excited to meet you and provide all that i have to offer! 👩‍🍼🤰

Alaina Nunez is a Certified Professional Birth Photographer and Videographer in Southern California as well as a birth doula, perinatal nutrition expert, Certified Lactation Educator Specialist and Certified Photography Trainer. She documents birth stories with her sense of calm and unique observational perspective. Her images are said to be editorial, intimate, and “in the moment”. She focuses on documenting the environment and emotions and notices and captures the little details that would otherwise go un-noticed and be forgotten. She is a second generation homeschooling mama of 7, which gives her the skill set to be flexible within a variety of situations and think quickly on her feet while seeing the beauty in the mess mess and chaos. She started attending births as a birth photographer in 2013 after the birth of her 4th child and supporting families as a doula in 2020 after the birth of her 6th child. Alaina is a Christian and opening shares about her faith and how she brings the Lord into the birth space. She says it would be impossible to not bring God into such vulnerable moments and prays for and over her clients throughout pregnancy and birth. She gives credit to God for her business and the gift of being able to support families while also documenting their birth journeys. She believes documentation is an important aspect of not just preserving stories but legacies and testimonies.

My own traumatic birth experience turned my world 180 degrees and I became consumed with all things birth and telling many family stories through art. I’m a wife and mom and I’ve been a photographer for 20+ years. Photographing newborns and families as they grow is truly my happy place. I feel that all my life experience has led me to this work and it’s incredibly satisfying. I am passionate about capturing those moments before they fly by. Because they go by so quickly! As a mother of 3 I totally get it. Family life is busy and we need things to be as low key and efficient as possible. I try to make your time in front of my camera LOW STRESS - and hopefully we can have some fun along the way! I like to let the siblings enjoy themselves and feel included in this special time. I like to get the newbies all milk drunk and sleepy so we can stare at them in awe. Mostly, I like to get everyone - young and old - to connect and laugh and remember the real reasons we get up and do this thing called life.
